How do I determine the horizontal displacement of this golf ball?
Physics was last semester, so I've forgotten the method, and now I've got to do this with Calc.
Alright, I've got a golf ball with a parabolic trajectory on Mars. I'm given the acceleration due to gravity, the total time before hitting the ground, and the initial shot angle from the ground. I have determined the functions for the vertical vectors of both velocity and displacement. I must find the horizontal distance the ball travels before hitting the ground. Friction, wind, etc. are not considered.
So, with the information I have, how do I go about finding the answer? (if you really need numbers, you can go ahead and make some up, and I'll just follow along. I don't want you to do my homework for me, just give me a hand.)
2 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoWhy does my house trained dog keep breaking the rules?
She is a Siberian husky/German shepherd cross. I confess she's rather young still, only about six months, but until now she's taken to her training very well. She has a bell that she rings to go out, and she used to wait to be let out reliably, only going inside when nervous or excited. She also has a feeding schedule, and goes out 20 minutes after each meal for as long as she wants.
But lately, she's been waiting for nobody to be around and then peeing(twice even pooping) inside! Right now during the holidays its easy to have her watched most of the time to make sure she gets put out, but she's stopped relieving outside except when she's out there for an hour or so. She'll hold it for a long time, until her supervisor needs to go prepare themselves food our use the wash room, and then goes on the carpet for them to find when they get back. Since we don't see her doing it, it's hard to reprimand her properly. She has a very guilty look on her face and goes to the door to ring her bell, AFTER making her mess. Nobody has mistakenly punished her at the wrong time(this behaviour I have seen in dogs that have been potty trained poorly) and the vet said she's very healthy. We normally leave her out for a minimum of 20 minutes to make sure she gets her business done. When we go out to check, there's usually a lot of fresh pee and a good poo, but she always saves at least a bit of pee for inside.
She seems completely happy the whole day, and doesn't act strangely aside from this, so I can't figure out the problem. One person she's used to having around has left for a couple days, but she's accustomed to having him(and everyone else) gone for much of the day(not all at once)....the only other possible source of stress I can see is her frustration at being unable to get the cats to play with her- she starts whining about the fact that they just sleep all day.
Oh yeah, when she goes inside it's always in the same small area, where neither the dog nor the cats go normally. We've used a few different brands of pet mess spray, including Bissell and Nature's miracle. We've also tried shampooing the carpet with special pet mess solution, but getting rid of the smell has not stopped the problem.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoIs it possible to change the screen size(NOT resolution) on my laptop?
There are a few old games of mine which are not made for wide screens and do not have options for playing in a window. I want to play them on my laptop, but they are always stretched out. Changing my resolution does not help(it seemed obvious to me but I tried anyway)
What I need to do is change the size of the active area on my monitor. This was easy on old monitors, which had controls for the purpose on the outside. But my laptop doesn't have those buttons, or any toggles on the keyboard.
The Vista screen settings do not have the option to change this, and my ATI control center never loads(it used to, until a recent windows update) Does the ATI control center have what I need?
3 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoIs there a better music player for me?
I currently use WinAmp, and I mostly like it. However, it seems to slow down my computer a bit and takes a while to load. Is there anything better? I only use it for music- both from my computer and from CDs. I don't use the library manager etc, just the player.
I want something simple that can blend nicely on my desktop(many skin choices, including transparencies, please) and doesn't take up too much space. It also has to work with my built-in media controls.
Actually, and even better solution would be a way to make WinAmp function better? To make it run smoother, and faster?
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoHow do I recover my lost prepaid visa password?
I have a vague idea of how much is left, but I'd like to check for certain. When I registered the card (on visaprepaidcanada.com, as instructed on the card itself) I was asked for my email, specifically for the purpose of lost password recovery. However, there's no link for password recovery nor a customer service or help link, even if I enter an incorrect password. I tried Google-ing it to find a hidden page on the website, but nothing came up.
2 AnswersCredit1 decade agoCan I turn off these Windows update popups?
This is so irritating; sometimes I'll get a Windows update popup that takes priority over everything(so all my stuff gets minimized to show me this) and it's gone so fast that all I ever catch is "Windows update" and then I'm just left feeling confused and frustrated because I was interrupted for no reason.
I'm assuming this is genuine, as I have not had any odd occurences on this computer and various scans have come up clean. It is a system popup, for sure, anyway.
I'm using 32-bit Vista home premium(yeah, I know...)
Come to think of it, the popup might say "Microsoft update"...the two are too closely associated in my mind.
Whatever the case I want this to stop!
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhat can I do about split ends?
I look around and EVERYBODY has split ends, but for some reason people point it out on me ALOT. I can't really tell the difference between the state of my hair and that of other people with fine, light hair, but I guess there must be something that makes people notice it on me more? Are split ends really even a problem? Anyway, is there anything that can be done to reduce what's already there? I don't use any sprays or gels, and I like my hair long so I don't cut it very often. The climate where I live is generally dry all year.
Why is this bothering people anyway? Is it really that unsightly even though it's everywhere? I don't get it....
4 AnswersHair1 decade agoHow can I quickly switch between language inputs on Windows Vista?
Even though the toggle is right there on the task bar, I find it irritating to switch languages that way, especially when I'm using two languages at once. Is there a hot key to for this switch, or any way to set up a hot key? Also, when using the Japanese IME, is there a way to quickly switch between katakana and hiragana? This is the most frustrating.
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhy is Live Messenger(MSN) suddenly acting up?
I have not detected any viruses, malware, etc. on my system and none of my contacts have reported odd messages from me, and yet my msn is doing things that it's never done before. My display picture keeps reverting to the default msn logo guy, and when I set my status to "appear offline" it always goes back to "available" after a while. I'm not sure exactly how long that takes, but it often correspond with me opening full screen applications.
I thought of just uninstalling and reinstalling, despite this version never having given me problems before, but discovered that it is not listed on the remove programs list(in the Windows control panel) and I could not find any uninstaller in my start menu nor in the program files. What's with that?
Anyway, I haven't downloaded or installed anything new recently and I haven't been to new websites either, so I don't know what's triggered this change.
Vista Home Premium, by the way.
1 AnswerMSN1 decade agoWhat is wrong with my leech?
My aquatic leech(carnivorous, not bloodsucking) is nearly a year and a half old now. He's acting perfectly normal, and doesn't have any trouble moving in any fashion. But, near his rear end, he's developed something that looks like an air blister. It's almost like a bubble inside him, or that's what it looks like. He looks normal from the bottom, even with light shining through him you can only see it from the top. I have never seen this before, so I'm not sure what to do...
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoDetermining concentration of a solution based on titration data?
I was silly and let my personal life get in the way of school. Now I realize that I missed about a half hour of our last chemistry lecture, so I can't do the assignment.
I have the titration lab data(4 trials, including indicator color, initial titrate volume, and final titrate volume) and yes of course I have the titrate concentration. My titrate is a base, and the sample is an acid. I won't give you any numbers or specifics because I DO NOT WANT ANSWERS. I want to know HOW to find the concentration of the acid using the data I have collected. I noticed that some of the american formulas are slightly different from the Canadian formulas, so if you are not Canadian please replace letter variables with their meaning("mass" instead of "m" etc.)
2 AnswersChemistry1 decade ago*emergency* My cat is shivering and not acting like herself?
This morning she was perfectly fine, but suddenly she's very off. Her paw or leg seems to be bothering her, but she did not indicate a specific spot of injury when I prodded it(from the paw all the way to the shoulder, she made no physical or vocal complaints) She doesn't want food, even fancy meat & gravy mix, she just wants to sleep, but she seems to be having trouble doing that. She's shivering, but doesn't want a blanket(normally she appreciates a blanket over her, but she just crawls out of it now) I read online that cat grass can cause such symptoms(but wouldn't account for her leg) we did indeed try new cat grass yesterday, but the other cat who ate much more of it is perfectly fine. There are also hobo spiders and jewel spiders in my area, but rarely in my home; I found no signs of a bite on her leg but it's still a possibility.
The vet is closed today, but there's an animal hospital a few hours out that has 24hr emergency service. What can I do to make my cat comfortable until we can get help?
(PS: If this is a double post I apologize- my page didn't show this question the first time, soo....)
3 AnswersCats1 decade agoHow can I add sand to an already stocked aquarium?
I have a fully established 55g long and want to replace the gravel with sand, in the interest of some of the fish who naturally prefer sand. What's the best way to go about this?
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoHow can I get rid of this divider in MS Word?
When you type a few underscores(_) and hit Enter, it becomes a line across the page. Normally, if there is something beneath the line, I can backspace until the line disappears. However, recently when I tried to do this, the paragraph below the line just moves above it! I can continue this until the line is at the bottom of the document, but then since there is nothing below it I cannot backspace it! It can't be selected so I can't simply delete it. I've explored almost the entire user interface(everything that seemed relevant) and can't find anything that will remove the line. I have tried pasting the text into a new file, but even if the line is on a different page it pastes with the text- it's permanently associated. This is extremely frustrating.
I have the 2007 version of MS Word, and access to previous versions is limited. I have never ever been unable to resolve formatting issues in Word, so this really makes me feel foolish. Somebody please tell me how to defeat this evil line!
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoWhat's the difference between M3i Zero and M3DS Real?
Based on product descriptions, they seem to be the same thing with different names o.o
Which one would you recommend for playing home brew games? Other functions might get used, but the focus is on playing games.
If you decide to tell me not to get either of these, please explain WHY and suggest an ALTERNATIVE.

7 AnswersElections1 decade agoHow did this happen to my gerbil?
One of my boys, Scribble, recently broke his leg. It was diagnosed to be a simple fracture and he's not trying to self-amputate or anything; altogether he's alright, still limping but not otherwise bothered by the injury.
However, I really don't know how it happened! He somehow managed to do it while in his home, which is a glass tank with a cage bar-style lid. He has one tank mate, one of his 3-month-old sons, and neither has ever shown any aggression. They have a SnakShak(with no roof due to them dismantling it for nesting material) and some wood chew toys(they're the only pair I have that doesn't ignore them). Their food dish is metal, suspended from the lid, and their water bottle is one of those awesome Oasis ones with the chew guard, hooked over the edge of the tank. They had deep aspen shavings(now shallow for Scribble's sake) mixed with lots of toilet paper, the remains of several drink trays and toilet paper tubes, some thoroughly chewed excelsior straw, and some timothy hay.
How could he have possibly broken his leg?
PS: they didn't have one at the time, but sometimes I give them rabbit toys similar to this bird toy:
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productI...
but smaller, without dyes; they're made of apple wood and hemp rope. I know rope can be a hazard, but these boys always ripped it apart in a way that it wouldn't be able to get caught on anything. Should I avoid toys like this?
4 AnswersRodents1 decade agoQuestions about Canadian wood frogs?
What causes them to change colour? Is it for camouflage, or in response to some stimuli? I noticed that when they're in mud or water they turn brown, but are tan on dry reeds.
Also, I've read that they mostly live in woods, but I've seen very few in woods while I've seen them in hundreds in swamps(all year, not just during breeding season)
I'm curious about how their bodies react with water, too. Is there a certain amount of water exposure that they can handle, or is it indefinite? Obviously they would have issues with too dry, but what about too wet?
