  • If Religion were to disappear do you honestly think the world would be a better place?

So there are some wars that were fought over religion and there are extremists that fight/kill in the name of their God but imagine if suddenly everyone was "freed from religion and any consequence." There would be riots, people killing each other for things, money, and land. I doubt the morality without religion that atheists speak of would exist when everything else goes to crap. Some people might remain moral but I think for most others it would be a free for all. What do you think?

  • Just because there's bad in the world?

People claim there's no God just because there's a lot of evil in the world? wtf It's up to us to correct this problem not God. We have enough food on the Earth to feed everyone yet we have tons of people starving every day. We have enough resources to provide shelter for everyone yet so many people are homeless. People just aren't spending the time required in order to help everyone because everyone is so busy making money and in their own affairs. Neither does the fact that evil people exist disprove God. Free will is an incredible gift which we have how would you like to have been made a robot?

  • Why Religion(Bible) vs Science?

Why do people keep insisting you cannot have both? This is a video of a very famous astrophysicist and what he said on Religion and Science shows how they are easily compatible.

  • What religion is this?

So my belief is that all religions believing in a God or Gods are true. All of these religions are different paths to reach the same destination. It is kind of like a space station in space where the vessels arriving to dock represent different religions. The ships arrive at different speeds based on how well you followed your religion and if you were a good person. The space station is the spirit which is one and more than one at the same time. Is this like any religion or what would you call this belie? Thanks

  • If there is no God.. ?

It is selfish for us to live when so many people are suffering so much. If there is no God then we should just blow up the Earth and get it over with as humanity is ultimately doomed anyway. Few of us here know what living in suffering is like and if you have any compassion you would agree that it would be better for life to not exist here than to have so many people in constant pain unless there is a God and a purpose for our suffering-- getting to Heaven sooner.

  • Why don't people investigate the Bible?

One example- People that say the Bible endorses slavery have done 0 research and know nothing about what they are talking about. Slavery during those days was VOLUNTARY. People used to work for others to make some money, in which they were "indebted" to them. The Bible says that slaves should honor their masters and vice versa. Another example of people from a different time and culture thinking they know everything.

  • Can I still be a Christian if?

Is it possible to still be a Christian and not believe in the Old Testament? The Genesis story does not add up to me it seems there's really only one way to interpret it which would mean that it says the earth is 6,000 years old. Can the Old Testament be inaccurate and yet the New Testament be true?

  • Why do Atheist overstate the number of Atheists by so much?

(in America) the figures Atheists like to give is 9% when the number is 2% according to wikipedia P.s. some say agnostics are in this group which is absurd agnostics don't say there is def no God:

According to Gallup, more than 9 in 10 Americans say "yes" when asked the basic question "Do you believe in God?"; this is down only slightly from the 1940s, when Gallup first asked this question. However, past Gallup surveys have shown that not all Americans are absolutely certain in their beliefs about God. Given the ability to express doubts about their beliefs, the percentage who stick to a certain belief in God drops into the 70% to 80% range. Additionally, when Americans are given the option of saying they believe in a universal spirit or higher power instead of in "God," about 12% choose the former. Still, the May 2011 poll reveals that when given only the choice between believing and not believing in God, more than 9 in 10 Americans say they do believe. Other indicators of religiosity in America have shown more dramatic changes in recent decades, most significantly Americans' self-identification with a religion. At some points in the 1950s, almost all Americans identified themselves with a particular religion. In recent years, more than 1 in 10 Americans tell survey interviewers they have no formal religious identity.[36]

A 2004 BBC poll showed the number of people in the U.S. who don't believe in a god to be about 9–10%.[20] A 2008 Gallup poll showed that a smaller 6% of the U.S. population believed that no god or universal spirit exists.[37] The most recent ARIS report, released March 9, 2009, found in 2008, 34.2 million Americans (15.0%) claim no religion, of which 1.6% explicitly describes itself as atheist (0.7%) or agnostic (0.9%), nearly double the previous 2001 ARIS survey figure of 0.9%.[38] The highest occurrence of "nones", according to the 2008 ARIS report, reside in Vermont, with 34% surveyed.[39] According to a study conducted by Gallup in May 2010, 16% of Americans declared they have no religious affiliation.[40]

The latest statistics show that a lack of religious identity increased in every U.S. state between 1990 and 2008.[41] However less than 2% of the U.S. population describes itself as atheist.[42]

  • Why do people think the Catholic church is against homosexuals?

The Catholic church is not against someone being homosexual The current pope Francis even said we need to "homosexuals must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided." The only thing the church is against is homosexual sex.

  • Why so many Atheists on YA and on the internet?

Just wondering why so many Atheists come to Yahoo answers. Its way off proportion. The data I have seen says Atheism is somewhere around 5% in the U.S and like 9% in the world now but it's hard to say because there is no official census for religion. Here there are definitely more than 9% of questions and 9% of answers that come from Atheists I would say pretty close to 50% of questions and 50% of answers come from Atheists so why do so many come here are they seeking or learning something from YA?

  • Why even argue over what God does....?

Lets define God by the definition from merriam webster: the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe

: the incorporeal divine Principle ruling over all as eternal Spirit : infinite Mind

So if God exists how can you disprove him by saying Why did God do that why does God want this. According to that definition we will never figure it out with our human brains. The right answer would be incomprehensible for us.

  • This atheist vs theist hatred?

First off yes I am religious and Catholic. Second I do not understand why so many theists on these yahoo forums are being angry/ calling names/using religion to say atheist will go to hell etc. I do apologize at least for these comments. God's number one rule, I think, is to love everyone. Even if you don't want to follow this rule, you are not going to get anyone to accept or look into your religion by doing these mean things. This is from my religion but I do believe in what the new pope said that we should all be good no matter our faith: http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2013/05/22/pope_at... On the other hand I have seen atheists say some sarcastic things that might be mean to some of the theists. I am not as sure about my religion as I have been as I was growing up (I'm 26 now) and have been reading a lot of articles on both sides. Instead of fighting I think maybe posting more debate topics and ideas would be helpful for everyone. Peace.
