Calling back about a job post-interview?
I went through the interview process for an internship and things seemed really positive. After not hearing anything back for 5 days I called to ask about a timeline for when a decision might be made. I only did this because the internship starts soon and is far from where I live so I'd have to make arrangements quickly.
When I called, they said that I would know by this morning if not earlier, but I haven't gotten a call or an email. I really don't want to leave it over the weekend. Should I call back now? Would that be pestering or seem impatient?
2 AnswersEtiquette8 years agoWhat (if anything) can you drink during Lent fasting (orthodox)?
I would like some clarification on this rule. At times when one is only eating one meal a day, therefore abstaining from food the rest of the day, is one allowed to drink anything outside of that one meal? Could you drink water all day and just not eat? What about other beverages like fruit juice, tea, coffee, etc?
Within the Orthodox tradition, because I know that Catholics and Protestants follow different rules.
thanks!
(btw, I find it funny that Y! answers suggested that this belongs in the "Ramadan" category)
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoClothes to wear when traveling in Russia?
I will be traveling to Russia (staying mostly in St. Petersburg) in May, and I have gotten some general advice to "look nice", but I'm looking for some more detailed information, especially from the perspective of people living in Russia.
I always dress to make a good impression-- no sweatpants, and jeans only occasionally, nice tops, makeup, put-together. I definitely avoid the typical American "super casual" look, because to me it looks sloppy. I own a lot of bright and pastel colors, I wear patterns and I like to mix colors and patterns in a nice way and layer my clothes. My clothes fit well, but aren't revealing. Here most people feel that I dress nicely (or so they tell me), but people keep telling me that wearing bright things like that in Russia will make me stand out as an obvious tourist. I guess I just want some guidelines so I don't look like a moron.
How would a woman in her early 20s typically dress?
Are there any items of clothing or general looks that I should avoid?
Obviously I'm not trying to "look Russian", I just don't want to stick out in an awkward way.
Thanks for any advice!
3 AnswersRussia9 years agowhat to wear clubbing when you have nothing to wear clubbing?
So long story short, I am going clubbing tonight and have nothing with me to wear because I didn't know to plan for it. Basically the only shirts I have that would work are solid color tees in various colors, and lace camis. The tee seems plain, but the cami seems a little weird too. Which one would be least stupid looking? Borrowing or buying something new are not options at this point.
thanks!!!
1 AnswerFashion & Accessories9 years agoOpinions on this outfit (easy)?
Considering this outfit for a lunch date tomorrow. I know it's January and it's more of a spring/summer outfit, but it's nearly 80F where I am at the moment, so it feels like summer. Plus, I'm on an island, so I feel like wearing these things out of season is a bit more acceptable.
Opinions? Too spring/summer? Too much red? Suggestions for improvement?
Thanks.
6 AnswersFashion & Accessories9 years agoFind me a dress: hourglass figure, small bust, elegant?
I have an event coming up later this month, and I need a dress. It needs to be either an evening dress or a cocktail dress. The problem is, I spent all of my extra funds for a while on things like Christmas gifts and travel, so I am on a tight budget.
My requirements:
--Classy and sophisticated. NOT a dress to go clubbing in, and not a dress for a high school homecoming. Think of something a woman in her twenties would wear to an elegant evening social event.
--Something that flatters a petite woman (5'4" and thin) with a somewhat hourglass figure, small bust (34a), and broad shoulders.
--Available in size 2, or small. Sometimes a 4 can work depending on the style.
--Preferably under $100, or as inexpensive as possible. I have to have the dress but I'm not interested in breaking the bank on this one.
10 points for best link to a specific dress or dresses. :)
3 AnswersFashion & Accessories9 years agoIs it better to visit Moscow or St Petersburg?
I am planning a trip to Russia with a group of students from my school. Due to budget and time constraints, we may only be able to visit either Moscow or St Petersburg, rather than both as originally planned. For those that live there or have traveled to both cities, which would be a better experience in your opinion, if you had to choose between the two? I should say that we're from my school's history club, and will be more interested in the history/arts/culture than the shopping and nightlife aspects of whichever city we visit.
10 AnswersRussia10 years ago"You're welcome" in Russian...?
Is it better to say "Пожалуйста" or "Не за что"? I've learned both from different sources so I'm kind of confused... thanks!
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoDo you dress for the weather or the seasons?
Do you dress for the seasons, or do you just wear whatever makes sense for the temperature? Like, would you wear shorts when it's still technically winter (like early march) if it was warm enough, or wait until spring officially begins? Do you put away summer clothes in September, or just whenever it gets too cold to wear them?
5 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoComfortable but still nice looking outfit for traveling?
I am going home for spring break, and this time instead of flying I am riding with a friend who lives near me. It's a really long drive (10+ hours) so we'll be stopping to eat and stuff. I want to wear something that looks nice enough to go out in (i.e. no sweatpants, don't want to look frumpy) but is still comfortable enough to wear sitting in a car that long.
The temperature will range from 40-75 depending on where we are and the time of day, so it has to have layers I can put on and take off as needed.
1 AnswerFashion & Accessories1 decade agoWhich of these dresses do you prefer?
I am looking for some new dresses for spring/summer. Can you please tell me which are your top 3 favorites out of the links below? Or suggest others (nothing strapless please), but still tell me your top 3 of these unless you really hate all of them!
I don't have a full body shot to post but I'm short (5'3"), about 140lbs with an hourglass figure.
This is what I look like as far eyes/hair/skin color:

7 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoWhich tote looks best? (spring/summer)?
I want a new tote bag to serve as a casual purse for all the crap I carry around, and a bag to carry my notebooks and stuff to class. It's kind of an investment piece as I only buy new bags every few years so I want something that is fairly high quality that will last and still be in style for future spring/summer seasons.
So far, I'm deciding between these two. Please tell me which one you like most (based on look not price or brand). Or, you can suggest a different bag in a similar style, I'm open to more options.

6 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoDo you feel like young people dress too casually?
Some people call me really old fashioned for thinking this way (though I'm only 20), so I just wonder if anyone else shares my opinion. I just think that the standard of what constitutes casual dress just gets lower and lower (not for everyone but in general). To me, the only people that can wear jeans and a graphic tee every single day are elementary school kids, middle school at the oldest. Yet, I see so many people even in their twenties wearing a daily uniform of jeans+tee+hoodie. Even worse, since when is it ok to wear sweatpants as casual pants? And girls actually think they're dressing "cute" when they wear brand name sweatpants and casual shirts to school. That's something I'd sleep in!
To me, a nice casual outfit is jeans with a button up shirt, or girls can also wear a nice blouse or tunic or something like that, and nice casual shoes (not dressy shoes, but nicer than sneakers). And I'm informed that this is actually considered a minor form of dressing up. To me, it's the bare minimum effort for going out somewhere casual.
Am I crazy? I'm not trying to be a snob, I don't care if people's clothes are expensive or not, I just think people should make choices that show a little more effort, especially when they are adults in college. Again, not trying to offend people, but honestly, if you are that person that wears sweatpants to class (why do so many people do this?!) I'm not sorry because that's just lazy.
Seriously, look at this. Is it really ok just because a celebrity does it?
5 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style1 decade agoFavorite vodka to drink straight?
I would like to explore different brands, but I would rather just ask you than buy a bunch of vodka I might not like. haha. I'd at least like to narrow it down to a few most highly recommended before I go tasting.
A few things:
-not for mixing, and not flavored...looking for non-flavored vodkas that are good to drink in straight shots.
-relatively easy to acquire in the US.
-I don't mind if it's more expensive, as long as it's actually worth it, rather than being valued for snob appeal.
Please tell me your favorite(s) and a little information about why.

5 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoShoulder Pads. Ladies, gentlemen, opinions?
Ok, I know shoulder pads are sometimes synonymous with "what not to wear: 80s edition", but...
I got this blazer that I really like, and I thought it would look ok as long as I pair it with less bulky items, but one of my friends was like "wtf shoulder pads? Are you my grandma?"
Photo example of a jacket very similar to the one in question:

Opinions? Ladies, would you wear it? Gentleman, is this one of those things that women think is chic but it's actually totally unattractive?
5 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agowhat can I wear with this patterned headband?
The thing is, my style is really classic and preppy, and while I can definitely see this headband working with an "emo"/"scene" look, that's definitely not a look I want (no offense meant, it's just not me). I bought the headband on a whim because I love purple and thought it was cute, but now I just don't know what to wear with it.
This is the headband:

Any suggestions of outfits that would suit my style and incorporate the headband are appreciated =)
2 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoDo you buy distressed clothes/jeans?
Do you buy clothes, especially jeans but anything really that are already ripped, frayed, scratched, faded or otherwise distressed? Why or why not?
My personal feeling is that I'll wear things (in casual situations of course) that I bought new and have since faded or frayed naturally over time, but it seems silly to buy something already damaged. However, you can agree or disagree, I'm just curious as to why the trend is so popular.
3 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoWould you be interested in a "favorite things" style blog?
I am thinking about starting a kind of "favorite things" blog, where I would write posts about products I've bought (or people I know have bought) that I love, mostly style-related. Some of it would be from well known stores, and other things would be from small companies or obscure brands, so maybe people could learn about something they might never have heard of otherwise. I know I have found a lot of great things through others sharing their finds via blog, so I'd like to do the same.
But would anyone care? I'm not a famous person and I don't pretend to be any kind of authority. I just think it's nice and fun to share information about good things.
1 AnswerOther - Beauty & Style1 decade agoDoes anyone else feel really horrified by pregnancy? Causes of this?
First, I know this doesn't really matter because I can always adopt if I really want kids, which I don't. I'm just curious what you think the underlying cause is for this feeling, because it seems unnatural for a female to feel this way.
First of all, when I think about being pregnant, I get really angry. If I imagine what it would feel like, all I can think about is the fact that some creature is living off of me like a parasite, and giving my body no choice but to keep it fed and warm and hydrated. I get really angry about this, and want to kill it. Not trying to sound crazy, but I feel the same as if I found out there had been a giant invisible leech on me for months sucking out my energy and nutrients.
Also, I feel like the fetus is just evil. Rather than feeling like it would love me (pregnant women have told me they feel this way, like they already feel a love and motherly connection), I feel like it would just use me and when it was ready to be born it would just kill me from the inside and burst out like that thing in the movie "Alien", like I'm just a fleshy shell and it's waiting to hatch.
I looked up "causes for fear of pregnancy" and all I got was info saying women are afraid because they're not educated about pregnancy, and they are scared they will die of complications or hurt the child or won't be able to bear the pain of birth, etc. I am not scared of these things, I just have this weird idea of unborn children as evil parasites. Every time I tell someone this to see if they can explain it, they just tell me it's disturbing to feel that way, or they think I'm joking, but I have felt this way since I was a child.
Any ideas of what would cause this fear?
