  • Where is Search?

I haven't been on Yahoo Answers for a long time. I have a question, but I want to search for previous questions & answers before I ask. But I can't find the search feature! Did they move it?

  • I am losing faith in humanity. It seems to me that the value of human life is...?

...of no value whatsoever anymore, and becoming even more worthless by the day. 'All we are is dust in the wind,' as the song says. As horrified as I am by North Korean child prisoners (imprisoned because of the 'crimes' of their grandfathers or great-grandfathers) being ripped apart by dogs (please feel free to Google it, sorry, I couldn't find the link), I know that the same thing happens everywhere and HAS ALWAYS happened everywhere since 'homo sapien sapien' first stood upright and killed his neighbor. Everything from the witch hunts and Romans feeding Christians to the lions (although that probably didn't happen, but w/e) in past times, to gay bashing, abuse of women, child molesters, rapists and human sex trafficking today.

    Seriously, what's the point anymore?

  • Question about feeding guinea pigs?

We are relatively new Guinea Pig owners. One of our books says not to feed the GP's any lettuce -- but it doesn't specify romaine, leaf, Iceburg, etc. As past bunny owners we know Iceburg isn't good for most critters, but the piggies seem to love romaine. Is it bad for them? How about fresh herbs like basil, cilantro, etc.? And finally, how do we know if we are feeding them too much?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Disposal of American flags?

    .

I know the proper way to dispose of an old American flag is by burning, but what if that's not practical? What if the only thing you have to burn a flag in is a barbecue grill -- and then the ashes settle in with last weekend's tri-tip drippings? Doesn't seem very respectful to me. And what about the smaller flags, the cheap little polyester things stapled to sticks that you might get for free at a 4th of July parade? Or, suppose you have a party with little flag stickers stuck on toothpicks to decorate a dozen cupcakes? Are you supposed to have some kind of flag ceremony for those?

So my question is: At what point is it okay to just throw an old American flag into the trash?

(Please bear in mind I have a family member living with me who is a hoarder, so anything I can throw away is a blessing. [Fortunately she is not a hoarder of American flags. Yet.])

  • I can't get my ring off my finger!?

My wedding ring has been on my finger for 22 years, but I used to be able to slip it off for cleaning. Over the years my weight and hands have changed - and now I can't get it off! It's not tight on my finger but it won't go over the knuckle. We just tried using dental floss, ice and Crisco... didn't work. Should I take a diuretic tonight and try again tomorrow? If so, what kind? Or should I just plan on having it cut off at the jewelers?

  • Another question about that Harris poll!?

Does it alarm you that 24% of Republicans, and 14% (!!!) of Americans in general, think Obama may be the 'antichrist?'

The fact that the number is higher than, say, .00000001%, scares the hell out of me. Seriously, I had no idea that it was so high.

Does anyone know how accurate that poll may or may not be?

  • Helpful websites for computer questions?

What are the best websites out there that can help me with computer questions or problems? For example, if I want to defrag (?) my computer or if I have questions about why it's running so slow, what websites can help walk me through these processes step-by-step? I am not a computer expert (you've probably already guessed that) so I would need something that's written in layman's terms - and of course, reliable sites that won't direct me to format my C: drive or something like that! Thank you in advance.

  • Spiritually speaking: Blackberry? Iphone? Smart Phone? HELP!?

How do I know what to buy? I'm hoping to find a phone that also gives me an organizer like a Palm Pilot, an MP3 player, a camera, and internet access. I'm looking at the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, but according to CNET it doesn't have G-3. Whatever that is. I don't need Bluetooth. My family's service is with T-Mobile. Anyone have any experience in this area?

PS: I know this isn't in the right section. But I hang out here so much I feel like I know you guys so well. You're like family to me and I know you would never steer me wrong. :)

  • Has Gonzaga made it to Sweet 16 before this year?

My husband and I have a disagreement. I am SURE the Zags have been in the Final Four in the past, but hubby says this is the first year they've been in the Sweet Sixteen. I'm sure there's a website where we could find out, but I'm lazy. :) Does anyone know?

  • A question for Christians about Secular Humanism...?

I asked this question yesterday, but I want to ask again in the hope that more Christians will respond.

Here is my question: What am I missing here?

When someone on these boards calls himself a 'Secular Humanist,' some Christians react in a very negative way, calling this person "evil," "misguided," "satanic," "antichrist," etc.

According to Wikipedia, Secular Humanism is a philosophy that "...upholds reason, ethics, and justice." Hmmm, those all seem like good things to me, nothing wrong here.

It also "specifically rejects the supernatural and the spiritual as the basis of moral reflection and decision-making." Okay, even though I personally believe in God, I am aware that not everyone does; but if these people strive for reason, ethics and justice, does that not make them good people even if they don't believe in God?

Honestly, even though I still consider myself a Christian, the philosophy of secular humanism also sounds like part of who I am. Thoughts?

Christians encouraged, but all answers are welcome. Thank you.

  • Has R&S affected your faith?

Serious question. Has your opinion on your faith (or non-faith) been altered at all by reading and posting on Yahoo Answers/Religion and Spirituality?

Mine has. I've been in kind of a "spiritual search" for many years now. When I first discovered R&S I hoped I could learn something meaningful and insightful, something that might help strengthen my belief in God and re-connect me with my religion.

But what happened? Exactly the opposite! Now, I'm convinced my religion is wrong, and the more I read on this board, the less convinced I become that God even exists!

I try to tell myself that this place tends to attract the extremes from both ends of the religious spectrum and, as a result, I'm not getting an accurate picture of the majority of either Christians or atheists. I also keep telling myself to stay off this site if I find it so frustrating! (Yet here I am again. *sigh*)

Anyway, has this happened to anyone else? My background is Christian, but people from any faith (or lack of faith) are welcome to answer.

  • My daughter found a wild bird egg, what should we do?

My eight-year old daughter found an egg in the landscaping of our apartment complex today. We don't know what kind of bird it's from but we live near the water, so we assume it's a wild duck egg or possibly Canadian goose egg. My daughter thought the egg was abandoned by its mother, and she was afraid raccoons might get it. So, unfortunately, she picked it up and brought it home in the hopes that we could 'rescue' it and hatch it.

Since then I've done a little internet research - and now I'm afraid we've broken the law! (Specifically the Migratory Bird Treaty of 1918, or something, which says it's illegal to take wild bird eggs away from where they were found.) I have very little hope we can successfully hatch the egg. Even if it did hatch, we would have no idea how to take care of a baby duck or goose.

I have tried to tell my daughter the best thing to do is put the egg back where we found it and hope for the best. Is it true that the mama bird might come back and care for the egg even though it has been handled by humans? Right now the egg is in a shoe box under a warm lightbulb (just like 'Roger' in that Spongebob Squarepants episode!). I honestly don't know what else to do. Should we put it back where she found it in the morning? Or perhaps give it to our local zoo to try to hatch it and raise it?

    Hope someone can help!

  • A (possibly stupid) question about Dimmu Borgir lyrics?

What does "bleh" mean in Norwegian?

I've heard Shagrath say "Bleh!" many times in many different DB songs, and I have no idea what it means. On 'Death Cult Armageddon,' track #7 ("Allehelgens Dod I Helveds Rike"), he says "Bleh!" a total of seven times at the end of the song! (I have to admit I laughed out loud when I heard it. It sounded like he was pretending to throw up!) Of course the liner notes don't have it listed, much less translated.

I suspect it really doesn't mean anything at all and is simply a vocalized sound effect. (For example, an American metal singer might use 'Huh!' or 'Yeah!' or something like that.) Does anyone know?

  • A question for Atheists, Christians, linguists, logicians, etc.?

Is there a difference between the two following statements? If so, what is the difference?

"I don't believe in God or gods."

"I believe there is no God or gods."

  • Some questions for people who have been reported...?

If someone disagrees with your question or answer and 'reports' you as opposed to giving you 'thumbs down,' does your account get deleted? So, someone can make you go away just because s/he doesn't like the way you think? Or thinks your avatar is ugly, or whatever?

I apologize that this question really doesn't belong in R&S, but I have seen so many references to it here that I figured you folks would have more insight. And yes, I have seen the community guidelines, but what I read there seems different than what I've read here.
