Why do dentists dislike giving patients nitrous oxide?
I just found out I need a root canal and my dentist seemed irritated when I asked if they would use nitrous for the procedure. He is the second or third dentist who has been resistant to my request. Why do dentists have a problem with this?

Wouldn't that be environmentally friendly? They cut funding by 60%.
7 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoWhat can cause the tail fin to split on a Betta?
I noticed today that my Betta's tail fin has split in two places. It's not frayed, but it's no loner a solid fin. I tested the water quality and it's fine. He has no blemishes or signs of irritation. I keep him in a 1.5 gallon tank with very gentle filtration. A couple weeks ago I put a few more plastic plants in his tank. Is it possible he might have gotten his tail caught or tangled in the decorations? Should I be concerned?
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoHow do I care for a Norse-style drinking horn?
I have a drinking horn that I acquired this summer that is showing some light cracking and splitting. I think that is due to the winter and dry heat in my home. The inside is coated with a sealant, but I want to condition the outside but am not sure what to use. Thank you for your help!

If you prefer the former, and not the latter, then what do we need to do about it?

12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWill Obama's proposed capital gains tax hike hit the Middle Class the hardest?
If a guy wants to send his kid to college, and he's rich, he can just write a check. If a guy is middle class and and wants to send his kid to college, and has to sell something, like a cabin or stocks or his baseball card collection, whatever, he has to pay 28% on that sale and that money goes to the government, and not his kid.
The rich guy doesn't pay the tax because he already had the money. So the little guy ends up paying the 28% tax to the government on anything he sells, which probably won't be that expensive to begin with, and we get less tax money.
If I have that right, does that make any sense?

I know the earth was created from Ymir by the sons of Borr, but I was wondering if the earth had a sentience or spirit in Heathen practice.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoPagans: What is your favorite Creation Myth?
This is actually a two-part question. What is your favorite Creation Myth, and how closely do you think it actually relates, in part or in whole, to the origin of the Universe?
For example, I think the Norse myth of the universe being created out of fire and ice is not that far off the mark, or Gaia being born out of chaos, or Shiva's dance of destruction as it relates to the "Big Bang" theory.

As we move closer to a nanny state and more governmental control, I was wondering how many Thelemites would find this acceptable.
4 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoIs Native American Culture a cure for the ills of modern society?
Many non-Indians, especially in the New Age movement, look to (all) Native Americans for the answer to what is missing in their lives. There is a revival of the "Noble Savage," myth that says adopting the Native way of living will bring us back to an idealized place before we were corrupted by civilization.
Could this be considered a viable philosophy or cultural piracy? Or both?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow do you see Odin?
I have recently felt a calling to the Nothern Path, Odin especially, and wanted to know more about Him beyond the mythology I have read so far. I have been reading "Odhroerir" by Laure Gunnlod Lynch. I will admit, I'm having a hard time with it. To me, It reads like a romance novel. Odin is portrayed as a charming rogue that has unconditional love for the author's persona and holds and pats her hand through troubled times.
My current image of Him is quite different. Does anyone else see Him as "tender?"
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoRat Attack?
I have three boy rats - 2 are litter mates, and one is younger and was added six months ago.
The younger one has started harrassing my other two rats by fighting with them and humping them. He has also started biting people. This is new stuff, and I attribute it to his age.
I let the boys out for excercise while cleaning their cage, and the young one was getting into something so I went to pick him up. When I did, he started sliding down my arm, so I brought a hand up from underneath to steady him. He freaked out and tore my finger apart. Not bite - tore. He cut a gash along the length of my finger and bit deep above the knuckle almost to the bone, and I couldn't get the bleeding to stop for ten minutes. My finger is swollen and black and blue under the bandage.
I'm sure I startled him, but with everything else going on with him, I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Would neutering help?

1 AnswerGeography1 decade agoPet rats and wild mice?
Hello fellow rat enthusiasts,
I let my two males out to play, roaming free through out the house. It's rat-proofed, they can't hurt themselves or escape.
Recently I discovered some mouse droppings on my kitchen stove top next to a discarded cupcake wrapper. What would my rats do if they encountered a wild mouse? Would they defend their territory (I'm hoping) or would they see them as interesting new company?
