Using a ? when phrasing a question in a non-direct manner - how to?
I have a situation where I'm asking someone to share details about success and failures.
The direct question would be obvious -
Have you seen any success with that marketing campaign this year?
But because the question is rather personal, I want to phrase it more courteously and indirectly. like this:
I'm curious to learn about the successes you've seen from that marketing campaign this year.
In this case, do I still put a ? after the phrase?
Technically I'm still asking a question of them, but it doesn't seem like it requires a ?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Take Care,
Danny

2 AnswersWords & Wordplay5 years agoHome Power Outlet Stopped Receiving Power?
Hi,
2 of the power outlets in my bedroom stopped receiving electricity last week and i cannot determine why.
I've removed the outlets from the wall and tested the incoming and outgoing lines with an electricity pen, and they are completely dead with no incoming power. One outlet sends power to the other and both are dead.
None of the breakers in my basement blew
And i looked at every single other outlet around the house that could be linked to that one and they all have power and work fine.
What can i do to troubleshoot this issue?

2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs5 years agoHelp with Creative Writing, Tips and Ideas for Linguistic Creativity?
Hi all,
I'm probably looking for answers from a blogger or writer, especially someone who writes for newspaper and magazines, but anyone with this inherent skill is also appreciated.
Anyway i am a business writer/analyst. I have excellent (as far as i can tell) skills in reading comprehension, data analysis, and composition for problem solving and idea generation.
Where i seriously lack in writing skills is my linguistic creativity. Here's an example:
I have a section in a recent report that explains new developments in a given industry. For these i usually title the section "Industry Trends" or something lame to that effect.
The other day i had this wonderful idea to title the section "The Tides of Change" and it was well received by those who read it.
Another day i used a sub heading that i saw a different analyst use "a tale of 2 cities" where this was to draw a comparison to this situation and the book. I disagreed with the analysis but the use of creative writing was excellent.
So my question, does anyone know how best to improve this skill? or places that house a repository of similar ways of saying other things, like a thesaurus for idioms i suppose, but not quite.
I'm stuck in a very analytical form of text composition, and though it helps me do my job, it doesnt make for interesting writing you know.
Any help is much appreciated :)

2 AnswersHomework Help5 years agoA word that describes a 'cumulative and collaborative' piece?
Hi All,
I'm compiling a report and near completion, i'm trying to make a compelling and apt title.
The report combines research, stats, studies, opinions, whitepapers, and professional reviews, into one large cumulative report on the entire field.
The field in question is largely fragmented with no effective sources of info that compile these various thoughts.
My report combines hundreds of different articles for an actual cumulative view at the topic.
I was going to call it a 'wiki'. So 'The TOPIC IN QUESTION Wiki' but as i've come to understand, a wiki is not only a combination of many view points, but something that can be openly edited, which this is not.
So i need a word that sums up the fact that this is a cumulative and collborative report that takes into consideration all the current reading and opinions i could find on the subject.
Any help is appreciated, even if your idea isnt right, it could set me on the right path. Right now im drawing a blank.
Thanks for all assistance.
Best Regards,
Danny

2 AnswersWords & Wordplay6 years agoHelp figuring out a word or phrase to describe a positive and negative self-fulfilling connection?
Hi,
I've heard this type of expression used, i cannot recall what the word or phrase is.
The thing i'm trying to explain:
when something has a positive correlation if it happens in one way and a negative correlation if it happens in another way.
SO for example: when employment is high, consumer spending is high, and businesses spend more, which thus increases employment, thus making more spending etc.
BUT, if employment is lower, then consumer spending is lower, then businesses spend less, then employment goes lower, then consumer spending goes even lower etc.
So if things happen one way, they feed back into each other and become more positive over time.
and if they happen the other way, they feed back more negative, and become more negative over time by virtue of their overall connection.
BUT i cant figure out what the word or phrase is to describe this kind of correlation.
any help is much appreciated, thanks so much!

3 AnswersWords & Wordplay6 years agoBluetooth Audio not Working?
Hi all, I'm having an issue
I'm trying to connect my phone to my car's bluetooth audio system.
When it connects:
It plays music through my phone
I can change the song from my steering wheel
And calls come through the bluetooth no problem, just not music.
I've tried:
Resetting phone, turning car off and on
Deleting all bluetooth paired devices on both car and phone
Checking phone and car settings to ensure that they are set proper for bluetooth
Other phones can connect to my bluetooth car system no problem and play music and call
This problem is happening on all my bluetooth speakers
My phone: blackberry Q10
My car: 2014 chevy equinox
They worked before no problem, just one day i started my car and it no longer worked anymore.
I'm usually pretty tech savvy but this one has me stumped

3 AnswersEconomics7 years agoCommon VS Civil Law?
Hi all,
I'm having trouble distinguishing between the two and was hoping for a hand,
as I understand it,
Common Law:
Judges are bound by decisions made previously in courts in order to make future decisions. They must adhere to the chart of rights and freedoms and the constitution. Judges must adhere to decisions made by higher courts, higher courts are not bound by the decisions of lower courts. Judges of the same court are not bound by decisions of thise judges.
Civil Law:
The governing body creates a system of codes and laws for every discernable situation, all cases must be judged in accordance to these codes already in place. Although a constitution may exist, the judges are bound by the codes already in place.
essentially
Common - judges are open to interpret laws as they feel but must follow past judicial decisions
civil - All possible decisions are coded and these codes must be followed, unless none exist specifically dictating how to handle the case
I don't feel like this is correct, im reading different articles which say things differently, some also say that we have codes In north America... but others say we don't.
Im confused, any clarity is much appreciated.

1 AnswerLaw & Ethics7 years agoWhat do you like most/ find most entertaining about public/ community events?
hello all,
so, I am preparing to make a bike to work event for my local community and I am trying to think up of some interesting entertainment ideas to go with the whole event.
I need something to entertain all ages for a couple of hours.
I am wondering, if anyone has been to a public or community event, doesn't have to be a bike-type event. What did you find most entertaining about the experience.
was there some kind of planned entertainment like a comedian or magician?
was there a community involvement activity where everyone collaborated?
-what was it? how did it run?
I want people to sincerely have a good time after they bike in and I want them to look back and want to participate next year when the leave.
I've got some free food planned and some local businesses helping out but its a short event so big time vendors aren't possible.
maybe you've seen something cool and others would enjoy?
any help is appreciated, any answer, if it gets me thinking or points me in a right direction and I figure something out from there then great!!!
i'll vote best answer as the one that helped me the most
there is no right or wrong though
thanks again

5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoGrammar Help, past/future tense.?
hi, I have a couple grammar issues I cant seem to resolve, any input is much appreciated
the first question:
Select the verb that correctly completes the sentence.
The courier guaranteed that by Friday noon, our parcel___________.
a) will be delivered
b) has been delivered
c) is to be delivered
d) will have been delivered
I tried A) but that was incorrect, I know its not b)"has been delivered". I cant decide over c or d, they both seem right, any input on this?
and the second question
Select the verb that correctly completes the sentence.
Moise____________ in a squalid shack before he won the 649 Lottery and bought a mansion.
a) had lived
b) lived
c) has lived
d) will have lived
I tried b)"lived" but that was incorrect. I don't think it is D)"will have lived. I am gravitating towards a)"had lived" but im second guessing myself.
It seems that English is written a great deal differently than it is spoken, English is not my first language and these specific grammar questions really highlight my incompetence with the language arts :(
thanks for any help, I really appreciate the assistance

1 AnswerLanguages8 years agoWhat is a "complete verb"?
hi all
so I've got this grammar online test from my school and it gives me 3 tries with different questions each time, I got every answer but there is one type of question which is not multiple choice and requires the EXACT wording to be correct in submission, here's a couple examples of the question:
Write the complete verb of the action that occurred first.
Johann had lived in Toronto before he moved to Hamilton.
_________________ <write your answer here
My answer: lived
--because he "lived" in Toronto before he "moved" to Hamilton
THIS ANSWER WAS INCORRECT :(
Write the complete verb of the action that occurred first.
By the time we arrive in Saskatoon, we will have travelled over 800 kilometers.
My answer: travelled
-because they "traveled" before they "arrive"
THIS WAS ALSO INCORRECT
now when I re-do the test im bound to get more like these, perhaps a greater number of them infact.
I emailed my professor and her reply was that
"I need to write the "complete verb" and that perhaps I am missing a word"
this was also the help that she stated she should not be giving me
any help is much appreciated :)
best regards

1 AnswerWords & Wordplay8 years agoProper Grammatical usage of "Regard" and "regards"?
so I have this assignment question that asks to select which of the following best reflects proper professional and technical usage:
1) Here is the memo with regards to your request.
2) With regards to your request, here is more information.
3) With regards to your request, here is further information
4) all of the above
5) none of the above
Now, I think it's 5) none of the above, I've researched around and it seems to me like
Regard (without the s) means with respect to, or, in reference to
and
regards (with an s) means with respect, or, have a nice day. like a closing statement
but even then this rule that I've been able to determine seems to be self defeating because I've read news articles and books where they say "with regards to that memo your wrote" etc etc and this is used all the time. I imagine the rule is ignored but for this assignment I need to some how find the rule amongst the crap load of conflicting answers I find on google etc.
any help is much appreciated

hi all
I am writing my resume and i'm trying to say something along the lines of being accustomed to have deadlines that cannot be missed and quality cannot be lost in the sake of getting things done on time.
now im putting "I am accustomed to an environment quality over quantity and steep deadlines"
but now im kinda stuck on whether steep deadlines actually makes any sense, I feel as though ive said it in conversation and I feel as though ive heard it on TV spoken like this but I am not sure.
does steep deadlines actually make sense as a saying or is it "(something) deadlines" and im just being illiterate

3 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agohelp with buying tires for my car? can i use a size smaller and still be okay?
im shopping around for new all seasons for my car and a used tire dealer told me that he has the next size down but reassured me that they are still okay for use with mycar. now im not the most car-savvy person but from what i do know you usually dont want to mix and match things in a car. all the same, a smaller tire i feel as though would not fit proper on my rim.
now he just said the code to my tire, if that means anything but anyways, my current tire is a:
p225/60R16
the tire shop assured me that the next tire down, a
p225/60R15
if i remember correctly, i think thats the code, but anyways, he assures me that this new tire will fit fine. the price he gave me is very very attractive, otherwise i wouldnt be willing to jump on this shaddy deal.
any advice or recommendations is appreciated, i really dont know much about the differences in tire sizes :/ i tried calling other dealers but they seem reluctant to answer a question that will result in me buying from someone else :P
thanks for any answers

6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoUSA reported a GDP of negative .1%, what does that mean for everyone?
does anouncing this statistic effect other variables, or is it just a statistic for people to see how the country is doing.
for example, a CEO makes a major announcement and a share price rises without anything physically happening, does the announcement of a decline in GDP have some kind of net impact on any one or many different markets and costs? for example, from hearing this news, do manufacturers, banks, investors, importing nations react to hearing this news? and how so usually?
or is it just a report and it doesnt effect anything after it?
