What is a profitable fundraiser you've done for a youth sports team or other non-profit?
I'm looking for something other than the run of the mill bake sale, carwash ideas. My son's travel hockey team wants to go to play a tournament in Lake Placid NY in March- A dream come true if you know hockey.
It will cost about 1200-1500 per family and we want to defray some of those costs for each family to make it possible to go.
What are some fundraisers you've done that have generated a few thousand or more dollars? Has anyone ever tried one of these recycling fundraisers for old cell phones, tablets, ink cartridges, and what did you think of it?
1 AnswerCommunity Service7 years agoHow can I encourage my 7 yr old son to be more social and make friends, or even want to make friends?
Let me clarify. He does not get picked on, and it seems that everyone likes him. When I visit school, other kids always say hi to him in the hall etc. But he is kind of like an "enigma" there- everyone likes him, but he doesn't open up so people can get to know the real him.
I'm not bragging when I say the following. He is very intelligent, and leaves his class for certain Reading/Writing/Math activities. He is also, from what I observe, a lot more mature than the kids he is with too. He's not a silly kid, like rightfully so, most kids his age are.
He is very athletic too. But most of his athletic activities take him away from his school/community. He plays travel hockey, does gymnastics, and plays lacrosse- none of which are offered in our small town, which definitely doesn't help. He has one close friend, but other than that, he has told me he can take or leave pretty much everyone else in school.
He's definitely his own man- I observe him in school and he definitely has self confidence, doesn't get picked on, etc. He just doesn't seem to care for the kids his age. I've asked him if theres kids he'd like to invite over, and he says NO! On occasion he will sit alone at lunch even, to just "concentrate on his eating" he says because the boys are annoying! He needs to learn to deal with people and realize that people are all different.
What should I do? He is very quiet, and can come off as aloof, even though he is a super caring and sensitive kid.
1 AnswerGrade-Schooler7 years agoHelp! My 5 yr old cries over everything!?
My son is 5 and he cries over every little thing. I should clarify-He is not throwing a tantrum; no screaming, kicking etc. He just always starts tearing up and gets pretty quiet and wont say much. It is getting unbearable- he cries if baseball is cancelled, if we run out of fruit snacks, if I forget to give him ketchup on his plate and so on and so on.
He is a very sensetive kid- he developed empathy very early, and he is a very thoughtful giving person, which is great!
But his crying is starting to carry over into school now. A kid hit him with a frisbee at recess and he cried. Then a boy threw his jacket in the air and the zipper hit him and he cried, his teacher told him and another boy to stop doing something and he cried. What I am most afraid of is that other kids will start picking on him.
Anyone ever gone through this? I am at my wits end. Ive tried telling him if he feels like crying to take 3 deep breaths and figure out a solution to what is making him cry, because crying does bot help. Now I am at the point where I am going to start to take away priveleges when he cries. Please help.
I should had that he absolutely loves school, so its not that. He has alot of friends and does excellent. In fact he cries (of course) on the holidays and in service days when they dont have school
4 AnswersGrade-Schooler9 years agoHow do I go about getting my series of childrens books published?
I have written a series (well 3 so far) of children's books. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to start the process of getting my series published? the title character is named after my son, and I would like to have the illustrations resemble him too.
Do I need to find my own illustrator? I am no artist, but want some say as to the illustrations.
Should I submit one book at a time, or all that I have at once?
I have very little start up money to do this. Do I have to put out alot of cash on my own?
Anyone who has done this before I would appreciate any info you can provide me. Recommendations on reputable children's book publishers would be helpful.
5 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoBest hair products and cut to get that bed head look for my son?
My son (7 yrs) loves to have his hair done in that messy, bed head, spike up look. Plus I think he looks adorable like that too! Think Brad Pitt in Fight Club, David Beckham, and Bradley Cooper when his hair is on the shorter side.
His hair had a medium texture with some natural waves and body to it. Its definitely not poker straight, nor is it curly. Plus he has a cowlick at the crown.
We move out of state a few months ago, and I can't find anyone around here that can cut his hair right. They all give him that dorky little boy cut with no style, and leaving the cowlick still sticking up.
So, how should I describe to the stylist to cut his hair, and whats the best product the get the look we like.
I know you must think I am nuts posting this for a little boy, but even though he is a total jock, he puts alot of effort into his hair and clothes! Thanks!
2 AnswersHair9 years agoShould I offer to donate anything to my son's kindergarten classroom?
He is going into a full day kindergarten in a middle class public school in CT. We just moved from PA, so I am unfamiliar with how it works here. Do the teachers here pay for alot of classroom supplies, and do you think it would be appreciated? What things to kindergarten teachers appreciate being donated?
My reasons for wanting to donate are two fold- I want to make sure his teacher knows we appreciate her hard work, and I also want my son to give back and appreciate his education. I think it is a good way to teach him those things.
3 AnswersTeaching9 years agohow soon after bankruptcy can I obtain a mortgage?
My current score is approx 580. I am filing for bankruptcy because I have about 35k in medical bills. I have several charged off credit cards and other accounts, as I was unable to work because of an illness.
I am keeping my vehicle through the Chapter 7, and have always made that payment on time, and will continue to do so. The bankruptcy will be discharged in about 3 months.
My questions are, will my score go up or down immediately following the dishcharge, and how soon after that can I qualify for an FHA loan? My debt to income will be fine, as I have a great job now and so does my husband. It will be my credit score holding me back.
4 AnswersCredit9 years agoCan the writ of execution freeze my 5 yr old sons savings account?
My former company sued me for leaving before my contract was up because I was stuck in a miserable situation, even though I was told they never sued anyone. They sued for 25k and arbitrators split it in half. Several weeks ago, the employers lawyer filed the writ of execution, and froze our checking acct that has 4k in it. This is back on our account in Pennsylvania.
We recently moved to Connecticut and I have opened a new checking account there. My question is this, my son has a savings account in Pennsylvania with approx 5k in it. Weve always done a good job setting aside his money from baptisms, birthdays, and us adding a little here and there. It is a PUTMA account, where he is the owner of it and reported under his social, but I am the guardian on the account.
My question is, can the writ of execution be enforced on his savings account, even though it is his money and not ours. We are not wealthy people, and I could never readily replace the money. Any advice on what to do?
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoWhat can I do to help my son?
My five year old is extremely comeptetive, with himself and others. Combined with being very sensitive. I want to explain he is not aggressive or mean, he just has to be the best, and gets upset with himself when he makes a mistake. He is athletically gifted, so when he doesnt come in first or makes a mistake he is having trouble coping.
He loves sports- he plays t-ball, hockey, soccer. He often cries if he gets out, doesnt get an out, or loses. My hubby and I try to express to him that he doesnt have to be #1 every time- what matters is that he has fun, learns, and tries his best. To this point its not working.
We moved out of state to a rural area. He begged to get back into hockey. So upon moving we immediately got him on a roller hockey team. But its such a small area the kids range from 5-9 yrs old. (he is the only 5 yr old though). We told him we would give it a try, but since he was so young, if we felt he could get hurt, we would take him out. Obviously he is not going to be the best here with the age gap. Surprisingly though, when he tries hard, he does well enough to soemwhat hang with the big boys. However, I have noticed he hasnt been skating hard or trying to compete. I am guessing that he is getting discouraged that he is not the best.
When I ask him if he is still having fun and if he wants to continue he says yes. He loves it. I always tell him its important to tell me the truth and I would never get upset with him if he said he wasnt having fun.
Should I keep him in it? I dont want him to end up hating hockey. He lives and breathes it. What can I do to keep him motivated since he wants to keep playing?
2 AnswersParenting9 years agoSwollen and sore breasts and not pregnant-what could be going on?
I just moved 500 miles away and do not have a doctor here yet, that's why I am here. Here is additional info;
I am 35 years old
definitely not pregnant (no sex)
my last period was 5/25-5/29- very heavy first 2 days
I have been under alot of stress, and it is "bad" stress, not good
I just changed brands of coffee, but my intake has not changed
I have completely stopped exercising since I moved- working on finding a gym in the the boonies here!
My breasts, almost out of the blue, around 6/8 became sore and swollen, and seem to be growing still. Anyone else have this experience? Any ideas as to what it could be?
1 AnswerWomen's Health9 years agoMy hips go out, scoop in and then out again. Is there a specific muscle in the "scoop" I can build up?
First off, I am in excellent shape and have lower body fat than most women, so it is not fat. I have a higher pelvic bone that sticks out, then a big scoop in, then my hip bone sticks out again. There is not an ounce of fat on the pelvic bone area. On the hip there is very very little.
I truly do not need to lose any weight-in fact, when I do lose more weight it accentuates my shape. Here is my question;
In that scooped in area, is there a specific muscle I can target and gain mass there to lessen this scooping in effect? What specific exercises will target that muscle?
Thanks for your help! I am dying to be able to wear some of those body hugging dresses!
2 AnswersDiet & Fitness9 years agoDo I have a chance at winning if I sue?
Here is the scenario- my husband and I were both realtors at the time (my husband has since taken another full time job. He did commercial and raw land. He had a $3 million dollar piece of land for sale. He was just getting out of the business and I do not do that type so he decided to refer it.
Incidentally, this was a listing he secured on his own with no help from our former company. It was For Sale By Owner, and he contacted them and got them to list.
After about 6 months of low activity (which was expected for such a high price) he decided that since he was leaving the business full time he did not want the listing anymore since he could not give it the full attention it deserved. He went to our manager and asked who he could refer it to. Our manager recommended someone in our office that we knew.
My husband did not get the referral fee agreeement in writing. That is fairly typical when you are working on a referral with someone in your own office. This agent made several references over an 18 month period that when the listing sold we would all make alot of money.
We came to find out some time later that the listing sold- and the agent got both sides of the commission as a buyer called in on the property that was not working with an agent. He ended up making more than $80k off the sale.
A referral of 25% was discussed when my husband turned the listing over.We would only be owed that on the listing side, so we are owed $10k.
However since he didnt get it in writing, do we stand a chance in court? We have a paper trail showing my husband secured the listing on his own- the other agent would not have had the listing had it not been for my husband.
Am I better off suing the real estate company, my manager, and the agent all at once? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoAnyone ever tried dermarollers for wrinkles?
Just curious if anyone has tried it either at home or in a dermatologist office. What were your results like? How long to see results? Did it work on the nasolabial folds?
I am thinking of trying it out.

2 AnswersAttachments and Photos10 years agoBest fish for a new aquarium owner?
We "rescued" a goldfish from a fair, and brought him back literally from the brink of death. He had everything in the world wrong with him, but after a rough start he flourished for a while. Unfortunately last night he took a bad turn and passed this morning.
After I replace gravel and clean and cycle tank, we want to get 2 fish for the tank. What fish would you recommend for beginners. (Though I have done a ton of reading over the last two months, it is still challenging keeping on top of ph levels, temperature) Please keep in mind the following:
Fish are a four yr old boys pets- so something active would be pretty cool
29 gallon tank with filter and air pump
I am really on point with keeping up with water changes and vacuuming gravel, so I dont mind a messy fish.
the 2 fish dont have to be the same, in fact I would prefer if they were not so we can tell them apart.
Would also prefer to put a live plant in there, so fish that like those as well.
thanks!
9 AnswersFish10 years agoPlease help me sync my new Iphone with my music library please!?
Ok here is what happened; My Ipod, my phone, and my laptop all died in the same week believe it or not.
The laptop is completely shot, no files can be retrieved-no hope for that.
I am able to get the ipod to turn on at least when I plug it into my other laptop, so I was able to salvage my music library from my itunes purchases.
I just went out and bought the latest Iphone (which is awesome, I love it!)
But I am unable to get my Iphone to sync with all my music- I intend to not replace my Ipod, and just use my new Iphone for that purpose as well.
Can someone please give me some step by step instructions on how to get my music onto my new phone? When I plug the Iphone into my other laptop, it doesnt allow me to sync my music with the phone.
Please dont be afraid to dumb it down with the instructions-I am not a wiz at this stuff.
Thank you in advance!
2 AnswersPDAs & Handhelds10 years agoWhy is my fishtank have foam on top and brown water?
Fish tank was just established less than two weeks ago, here is how it all went down:
-Son won goldfish at a fair; fish looked sick.
-Immediately bought 29 gal tank with filter and air pump
-followed directions for set up and introducing fish to the tank perfectly-tank looked good, but fish obviously showed signs of infection.
-Took pics of fish to fish person at the pet store, got a diagnosis.
-Two days after setting up the tank, got the proper medicine for the fish, and started treating according to the directions, including removing carbon filter.
-had to go away for two days, someone came in and gave fish last course of treatment
-CAme home, fish is looking much more healthy and active, but water is brown and foaming. Fish has some of the of browm looking algae on him, even though I can tell the infections are going away.
-same day I came home, I did a 25% water change and added the carbon filter back in.
But the tank is still foaming and brown.
Any advice on what is wrong, and what can be done to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated! CAn I do another 25% water change two days in a row?
I know its a little goldfish but I cant turn my back on this little guy!
1 AnswerFish10 years agoWhy is my fish sitting at the bottom of the tank?
My son won a goldfish today at a fair. We immediately went and bought a one gallon tank with an air pump, underground filter, lid with light. The fish was active for the first couple of hours, now he is just sitting at the bottom.
I did everything correctly (so I believe)- used dechlorinator, put the bag with the fish in it in the new water to adjust to the temp, slowly added tank water to the bag before adding him to the tank.
Any suggestions?
5 AnswersFish10 years agoLegs never defined. What am I doing wrong?
Even when my body fat was at a ridiculously low 12-13%, my legs are always bulky and never show any definition, especially my calves and right above my knee. I've tried everything, running, stairmaster, yoga, pilates, swimming, squats, lunges, etc-I just get bulkier and bulkier.. Ive tried every eating regimen on the plantet and utilized a food diary. My stomach looks crazy good no matter what I do but never translates to my lower body. In fact if I lose too much weight my face and upper body can look skeletal and yet my lower half is bulky (not even fat, just bulky). It s ridiculous with my calves. I have to buy my tall boots from an obese womens site, yet I wear a size 4-6 juniors! And I'm 34!
Any suggestions on something else I can try to get slimmer more toned legs? Please refrain from the accept and love your body the way it is responses. I need help get definition, not help with my self esteem!
