Pros/cons on using donor sperm at home vs IUI in doctors office to conceive?
I want to try to have my first baby, I am almost 31 years old and an asexual single woman. It's been 5 years since I initially thought of using donor sperm and now have decided it's time to start trying as I am not getting any younger LOL anyway, I would love to hear from people who have had success using a donor and what route they took, pros and cons of going through a doctor or simply doing AI at home... thoughts, concerns?
1 AnswerTrying to Conceive4 years agoWhat is the best shampoo for white coats for a papillon?
I have a 7 year old Papillon who has a bit of yellowing going on in her coat. I was just wondering what the best high quality (nothing you get at walmart or any other store like it) whitening shampoo to use, that will not cause skin issues? Thanks.
3 AnswersDogs6 years agoPre-making/cooking Thanksgiving food and freezing it til needed.?
Hi. This is my first Thanksgiving that I will be cooking dinner for me and my mother. I already have all the ingredients bought, and the recipes I'm going to follow. I've done test dishes for everything I've never cooked before, besides the turkey lol. and it all turned out fine. My question is, since I have to work the days before Thanksgiving, I was wondering if I could cook the food in advance, freeze it, then warm it up the day of? Would it still taste the same? I am planning on roasting the turkey the day of the holiday so I won't dry it out. Thanks.

1 AnswerMovies7 years agoIs there a brand of flea drops for dogs that is natural, no chemicals, that actually works?
I have to keep my dog on flea drops, month to month, to show my landlord she is on them. It's a part of my lease agreement for me to have her. However, I hate the idea of putting chemicals on her. She hasn't had problems with fleas since she was little when I wasn't feeding her holistic. However, I saw a flea on her the other day, now I am worried she will start having issues. I just moved into this place too, last month I put something on her put I don't want to put chemicals on her all the time because it may cause problems later in her life, and I want her to live long and healthy. If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. The only one I am pulling up is Sentry, and I know that comes from Sargeants which is a no-no brand for me. Thanks.

I was cooking this evening with my electric skillet and the side of it touched and melted a hole in the plastic of the microwave door. It is not on the part that protects the microwaves from leaving the microwave, it is by the handle where the door opens.... I'm not very good at explaining lol.. Is it ok to use?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agovery shy dog- socialization tips?
A friend messaged me on FB tonight about a dog in need. I rescue cats and I have taken some orphans from her before, so she asked me if I could help. I said sure, I can help. The poor little dog is so scared. She peed and pooped when my friend handed her to me, was shaking, and they said she hasn't eaten in 1 day... her original owner dumped her off with this person yesterday and that person couldn't keep her. She is now lying on my couch, asleep. She isn't shaking anymore but I do believe I have a lot of work to do with her. Any tips? She looks like a cairn terrier mix, if that helps any. Thanks.
3 AnswersDogs8 years agointernet modem shut off on its own?
my modem shut off by itself last week at 3pm and stayed off for hours. When i went to bed it was still off and i planned on calling my service provider the next day to tell them they need to come out and switch it for me. But when i woke up the next morning it was on again, so i just let it be. About 20 minutes ago, it switched itself off again, but this time lasted only 7 minutes. Should i just go ahead and have them replace it anyway and why is it doing this?

2 AnswersQuotations8 years agohow long can feline distemper (panleukopenia) live on surfaces in the house?
Last month, I brought in a cat that eventually died of feline distemper under a vet's care. She seemed healthy when I received her, but her health rapidly declined and she stopped eating, was hiding, losing weight fast, throwing up.. all the signs of feline distemper. I brought her to the vet as soon as I noticed, and they admitted her, but she died the next day. The previous owners told me that she had been vaccinated, the cat was 2 years old and I took their word for it. When my vet called for her records, we learned she had only had a rabies vaccine. They diagnosed her with panleukopenia AKA feline distemper. She was dehydrated so they gave her fluids, but her body would not absorb them. Anyway, I went home, disinfected everything multiple times and cried myself to sleep, feeling guilty that I had not noticed earlier. I rescue multiple cats, and with all of them, sometimes it is hard to spot things, although I usually do make rounds and check all the cats, make sure they are eating and not coming down with something.
Anyway, I got all my cats examined by the vet after this, and they were all ok, and still are. They are all vaccinated.
Two weeks later, I received some kittens that had not been vaccinated though, a total of 6. They got a vaccination 2 days after they arrived, but 2 of them got really sick. They were also diagnosed with feline distemper!! One did not survive it, the other is still recovering but we expect him to be ok.
Is it possible that they got this from my home, even though I disinfected multiple times before they arrived, and it was 2 weeks after the first cat passed? I am about to give up rescuing, it is very hard to cope with the loss of these precious animals.
1 AnswerCats8 years agoDo you think it would be safe to microchip a 13 year old Papillon?
Just needing some opinions, I know my vet will tell me it is ok but ... I don't trust vets advice most of the time, for past experiences. One, I had a cat die under a vet's care when they did not do everything they could for her, they sent her home sick to die in the middle of the night... for two my step mom once had a pomeranian who had to have SEVEN surgeries on his knee before they took him to another vet to determine the cause of infection was the stitches the first vet used, and the poor dog couldn't use his leg anymore after it. I also had a vet tell me once that one of my past Papillons did not have a luxating patella (knee), took him to another vet who did x-rays and determined he did. Also got a third opinion before finally doing surgery to correct it! Also had a vet give my Papillon puppy a 5 way vaccine in the muscle of her back leg, she got an abscess from it. So, as you can probably tell, I find it hard to trust a vet's advice on anything, so I ask other people too :) When it comes to my babies, I want to be sure everything is done right and safe.
I recently adopted a 13 year old female, spayed, Papillon named Bella. She is deaf, has no teeth, was underweight due to worms and being fed Beneful dog food (ugh some people have no clue what to feed their dog) and also has an old leg injury that does not bother her but it does make her walk differently than normal. It has been examined by a rescue's vet and mine, both said the same thing, that it does not seem to bother her. It doesn't bother her at home either. Anyway, I usually microchip my dogs, but I know it's a huge needle and everything, I don't want to stress her out but I also don't want her to heaven forbid get lost and have no chip... do you think it would be safe to microchip her, or do you think I should just have her wear a tag with a number on it .. advice is appreciated, thanks.
3 AnswersDogs8 years agoone of my rescue cats had kittens and one has 3-4 small wounds in its skin?
I need a second opinion. I'm a little cautious of vets after one of my rescues died under a vet's care...when I asked another vet about the cat's death they told me that they should have done something for the cat which they did not. Anyway, back to the present issue.
I rescue cats all the time, have done so for the last 10 years. Never once did I not notice a cat's pregnancy. Normally they would be taken to the vet, they would check the cat over and tell me how many the queen will have.. I do not believe in terminating the pregnancy after a certain period of time, and if it were early enough, I would have asked for a spay to be done.
The cat was surrendered to me last week on Friday. She had absolutely no signs of pregnancy except for the nipples, which I didn't really notice until today when she was acting like she was going into labor. I thought, that's not possible, she is not pregnant. Then I saw her squat and out came the first kitten...right in the middle of my living room surrounded by a litter of 13 week old kittens! One of those kittens, a male, saw the newborn and grabbed it like it were a mouse, and headed under the sink with it. I chased him and retrieved the kitten, and the kitten was not harmed except for some tears in its skin, probably caused from the older kitten grabbing it and running. He did not bite down through the newborn, just its skin so no vital organs were harmed. After this I put momma and baby into a crate so she could finish having kittens away from the other cats. Had I known she were pregnant, she would have been in the nursing room of my house where there are 4 separate enclosures for moms and babies. I took the baby and mom to the vet in the crate I put her in (the reason I chose a crate over putting her in the nursery room) and the vet said that the newborn would be fine and that momma would just keep the wounds clean. Will this kitten survive this turmoil of its first day of life? I would hate for something that could have been prevented had I known to eventually cost this baby its life. Thanks for any help.
3 AnswersCats8 years agotips to keep my dog from sleeping in the litter box?
I have a 13 year old Papillon that I just adopted on Sunday, and I have several cats here as well. The little doggie likes to sleep in the litter box! I got her out of it twice when she first got here, and then today after work she had gone into my litter box room and I found her sleeping in one again! How can I get her to stop sleeping in the litter boxes? She doesnt eat the litter or anything like that and I do keep the boxes cleaned pretty good, but still I don't think it's healthy for her to sleep in cat litter that has traces of cat urine in it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
4 AnswersDogs8 years agostray cat mammary gland busted open.. help!?
Hi everyone. I brought in a cat from outside who is a sweetheart, after noticing she had been nursing but the neighbor that had been feeding her said her kittens had died already, but she is allergic to cats so she cant keep her. I thought I would take her in and keep her til a permanent home is found. Anyway, this is her second night here. I dewormed her with medication I got from my vet for my other rescued cats, and checked her for fleas and earmites, which she had no visible black coffee like stuff in her ears but I put her on a flea preventative. I do this for all the cats I help. Anyway, I just went to the bathroom and she was there, meowing like she is in pain... poor thing. I picked her up and a milk came oozing out of her mammary gland, and there was small traces of blood in it. Naturally I became scared for her, and looked her over. After the stuff was done coming out, I rinsed off the area to find a hole in the side of her mammary, but it was not bleeding. What causes this to happen? I gave her an antibiotic to fight off an infection til the morning. What else can I do for her, I've never had this happen before with any lactating female, even those that had mastitis and I had to nurse kitties myself. I would take her to the vet but I do not have the money for emergency care right now. Thanks for any advice.
1 AnswerCats8 years agoHow do I stop my Papillon from barking at people who walk in the door?
I have a 5 year old Papillon and the only problem I still seem to have with her is her high pitched bark whenever someone comes in the door. She does it every time, doesn't matter if she knows the person or not! I'm not sure how to go about getting this under control. I can live with it if I have to but I would really like to know if there is anything I can do!
She is the best little dog otherwise, so don't even bother saying it's because she is a little dog... that's stereotyping. Not all little dogs are nuisance barkers, she only barks out of excitement to see people coming in I believe. She doesn't bark any other time.
6 AnswersDogs8 years agoNursing cat has diarrhea?
Never really had this problem before, so was wondering if any of you have. i have adopted one of my rescue cats who is nursing a litter of 4 (they are 3 weeks old). She has had diarrhea for a few days now, I have taken her to the vet and determined the cause was tapeworms, the vet said it should be back to normal in a few days. It has been a few days and the only advice my vet gave me was wait a few more.. well, does anyone know if there is anything I can do to firm up her stool? I am worried about her becoming dehydrated while nursing the babies. So far she is ok, but what will a few more days do... and before you give me a lecture on spaying her, the babies were 2 days old when I started fostering the cat... and she DOES have an appt to be spayed when the babies are weaned. and all the kittens will be fixed too. She has been treated for fleas too. Thanks!
