  • Kindle book prices from amazon?

Ok, so when I bought my kindle, I bought it on the advertising promise by kindle that I would pau JUST $9.99 per book, even for NYT best sellers. Now they are charging upwards of $14.99 for new releases. Does anyone know why they upped their prices after promising not to charge more than $9.99/book?

  • Home appraisal valuation question?

I live in CA. I am refinancing and have had the home appraised. The appraiser used two "distressed proeprty" sales, IE short sales, in coming up with the value for the appraisal. As a result the loan to value ratio is not at 80%, and the interest rate is subsequently higher. It has always been my understanding that distressed property sales are not to be included in the comparables for an appraisal, as they do not reflect the true market value of the home which is being appraised. Is this true, or was the appraiser correct in including the short sales for the comparable value?

  • going to court, help please?

OK, so I am in law school and they have us handling fake civil suits, and I am representing a respondent We have already filed an answer and a counter complaint. Now our opposing counsel has filed a motion to dismiss all of our 10 Causes of Action, plus an anti-slapp motion to strike 9 of the 10....GEEZE.

so here is my question, what do I say tomorrow in "court"? We havent even begun discovery yet, and I was told by our professor that we have notice pleading in CA which is very general, as opposed to code pleading, which is more specific.

Would it be proper to tell the judge that discovery hasnt begun and ask for a continuance of the matter until we have had time to discover the complete causes of action? Or is that stupid? I am lost here.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Why are christian lawyers doing this?

    http://www.fox6.com/news/national/story.aspx?conte...

Basically they are trying to get a case heard that will present the question of whether of not jesus recieved a fair trial for blasphemy.

The problem I see with this can be summed up in a simple "pseudo-syllogism":

    A. Christians believe jesus was a martyr, and free from sin.

    B. The court MAY find jesus was RIGHTFULLY convicted of blasphemy.

    C. If he was rightfully convicted he broke the law, sinned and is no longer the martyr hero.

    Why would they risk it?

  • which diplomas do I put in my office?

I attended a community college for 2 years and earned an AA in liberal arts.

I attended a state university and graduated with bachelors degree in communication studies.

I am graduating from law school and opening my own practice.

Do I hang all 3? or just the bachelors and JD?

    I want your opinion.

It seems to me that the AA may make people feel like I am more approachable in a way, but on the other hand, will they think I am less capable b/c I went to a community college first?

BTW- I dont buy that people who went to a community college are less capable...to the contrary, I went to one to save money so that I could later afford law school...smart move! :-)

  • Andromeda and mikyway will collide?

ok, so I am speaking in laymans terms here, b/c that is what I am, but as I understand it...the universe is expanding, away from some "nonexistent center"...all the galaxies are moving away from the proverbial center at the same rate, or close to it...

now given that, can you explain this to me

Andromeda and milkyway are headed TOWARD each other at a rate of a couple hundred kilometers per second, (which is very fast, but they are very far away, so this will not happen for a very^10 long time.)

How can this be? the logic doesnt work for me...if all galaxies are moving outward from some central point, how can andromeda and milkyway be headed in OPPOSITE directions directly toward each other

Please help this wannabe space buff out on this one, it is truly a mind bender for me...maybe my first assumption was wrong? I dont know...help a sista out!

  • sick doggie...please read?

My dog just had x-rays and it looks like "link sausages" are blocking his colon....the matter that is obstructing the colon is lighter on the x-ray than his bone is, which means it is denser than bone, and the blockage extends for about 13 inches.

The vet is keeping him to do an enema today.

My question is how often does this type of blockage get cleared without surgery?

  • what do you think about the new portugal abortion law?

    Friday, June 22, 2007

New Portugal abortion law to take effect July 15

    Michael Sung

[JURIST] The Portuguese government officially published a new abortion law [JURIST report] Thursday, formally adopting the law and paving the way for it to enter effect on July 15. The law allows abortions [JURIST news archive] during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy free of charge at a public hospital, but requires a meeting with a doctor who will be required to warn of the potential dangers followed by a three-day mandatory "reflection" period. Women will also be required to attend family planning education within two weeks following an abortion to be educated on contraception methods.
