I put a toy space helmet on its head and was playing astronaut. I tied a string to the turtle to keep it at safe height. I thought I heard the neighbor come outside so I let it go. Should I tell them or just let them wonder?

I have held them underwater and microwaved them to help them grow gills but have been so far unsuccessful. Any tips from those who successfully made sea gerbils?
