  • What are they called?

What are the people called that get strapped onto airplane wings? The ones that stand up and wave while the plane flies and does twists? They're totally safe and strapped in but what the heck are they called? Plane Walkers?

  • Poetry Analysis Help?

My teacher assigned a poem titled: "Night Herons Begin to Feed at Dusk" by Linda George. Well I can't find any Linda George that wrote this poem and after typing in the title on google absolutely no results came up for the poem. I think my teacher might have just written it herself and used the name but I really need help deciphering it so if you can help analysis it, find a deeper meaning, or find who it is actually by that'd be great.

    He says it's love, mornings

    when he returns from work

and presses her shoulders to the wall.

    His hand in constant motion.Again

she tells herself the hand, its falling,

    is like disengaged feathers.

She tells herself she will feel

the weight one feather drops as it settles

    leaving impressions:

the precise outline of a hand cupped,

a wing with feathers purple & green

in half-light. Colors she's left with.

She remembers the night heron's flight

    at dusk. Calling themselves awake,

they strike out over the river

to feed on the other side. She tells

    herself that to invent nothing,

    not even the self,

is the origin of dread, that the reasons

    for flying are instinctual.

Thanks guys for any help you can provide

  • Fashion advice/help?

Hey everybody, I have to take a super long flight and I'm leaving from my house around 3am in the morning. I don't want to do my hair or makeup because honestly, I'll barely be awake. I have a two hour layover however and was planning on straightening my hair then, my question is: does anybody know if I'm allowed to take either a flat iron or a curling iron on the plane as carry-on? The curling iron is metal and the flat iron is half plastic with metal in the middle.

    Thanks!

  • Movie song translation help!!!!!!!?

Hey everybody, for the life of me I cannot find a Swahili sentence translator and I'm trying to translate a lullaby. It's from the movie Mighty Joe Young. If anyone knows the translation or knows where to get it that'd be great, here are the lyrics.

    Imba wimbo wa upepo

    Wakati una jiwa na

    Imba wimbo wa upepo

    Wakati ndoto tamu

    Una endelea

    Milele

    Imba wimbo wa upepo

    Wakati ndoto tamu

    Lala mpaka usiku uisheni

    Upepo wa usiku

    Wimbo wangu unaendelea milele

    Thanks for any help!

  • Not trying to start a huge argument, just curious?

As I stated in the question, I am not trying to start a huge argument, I am just really curious about the topic of abortion and people's opinions of it. I just finished writing my term paper on it and after reading more facts I'm just wondering how some people justify it, believe in it or wish to ban it. Personally I am against abortion. Many reasons, but some include: fetology or the scientific fact that life begins at conception, many forms of abortion seem too horrific to even think about let alone have done: The Vacuum Aspiration-a doctor inserts a vacuum and sucks the baby out of the uterus (this rips the baby to shreds), Partial-Birth Abortion or Dilation and Extraction where the doctor uses large pliers to pull on the baby’s legs to force it to a feet down position and then delivers the baby’s body while the head remains in the birth canal where scissors are then applied to force part of the skull open, the doctor then inserts a suction catheter into the brain and uses a machine twenty nine times more powerful then a regular vacuum to suck out the child’s brain tissue. And the fact that the neural tubes have developed at four weeks (the baby thinks, feels and has emotions), and the heartbeat is detectable and brain waves are noticeable. So what are your views and opinions on this subject?

ps. I know this has nothing to do with singles and dating but people go through this forum more than any of the others (I know I do =P)

  • confusion due to a guy-advice?

There is a young man that I have been spending a lot of time with, talking over the phone and hanging out. At first he said he loved having me as a friend because he found me so easy to talk to but because of our differences, he didn't see us working out (religion, views on dating etc.) which was fine because he was still a really good friend. He's always been really flirty, making some sexual jokes, and teasing me a lot but then a few weeks ago he started hinting towards maybe going out on a date. And on the weekend we were hanging out at my house and he mentioned he was going to take me out that night but we had both slept (not together). When I mentioned the whole: "our differences separate us" thing he was said: "Well, maybe that's changed?" what's up with this guy? it's like he can't make up his mind.

Guys: can you tell what he's thinking or maybe an idea? and girls: would you stick with it or let it drop?

    Thanks for any advice :)

  • You ask, I ask, who asks?

    Hey everybody,

So here's my question: I've heard that for guys it builds up their self-esteem if they ask a girl out and also it's good for them because it shows the girl that he's interested, and that he's willing to put himself on the line of embarrassment to ask her. But I've also heard that guys like it when girls ask them out because it shows that the girl is interested. So what do you guys think? Guys, do you like it more when you ask a girl out or when she asks you out? and girls-do you find it easier to ask him out and get it out of the way, or let him come to you?

Personally, I think that the guy should work for it, I'm old fashioned =)

    Thanks everyone!

  • Someone checking you out ??

Note: Please no crude, rude or immature answers.

I was walking with some friends in the mall and we passed a group of guys and after passing them one of my friends said they were checking me out. As far as I could tell, they just made eye contact with me. Does this count as 'checking me out'? How can you even tell if a guy is checking you out?

  • Guys intimidated by virginity??

A friend of mine recently told me that guys are intimidated by girls who are still virgins. Didn't exactly specify why, just said they were intimidated because it might put pressure on them or perhaps because it meant that the girl was harder to get-something like that and guys find it easier to talk to girls who are not virgins. I was wondering what some guy and girl perspectives were on this, are some guys really intimidated by girls who are still virgin, do they get along better with girls who aren't or does it really matter?

    Any opinions are welcome

    thanks guys!

  • 'Twilight' Fans?

For those of you that have read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, what do you think of the movie coming out? From what I've seen in the trailer they've already added a lot, cut out parts or changed things. I know that's normally what you get with Hollywood, but do you think the movie is going to suck, turn out ok, be really really good, or completely blow our minds?

  • Manual Trucks-For Girls or No? Open to all opinions =)?

My brother left for an internship in another country and left behind his Toyota truck for me to drive. It's a stick shift, has no power steering and is a real beat up thing but I absolutely love it. A friend of mine said guys love a girl who can drive a stick shift, and if they're in a truck it's icing on the cake. But today my other brother said it was a terrible idea to let me have the truck because it wasn't a girl truck.

Thoughts? Opinions? Guys do you think its cool if a girl drives a truck or is it weird? Girls, I know a big chunk of girls drive trucks out there but do you find it intimidates guys?

Thanks for any advice on the matter.

  • I'm trying to find the song at the end of the 'New Amsterdam' preview on Fox. Anybody know what it is?

It's the song that is at the end of the 'New Amsterdam' preview that Fox has recently been showing. It's the extended preview and it's a bit of a rock song.
