  • Can guinea pigs live outside all year round?

I live in the UK and I am planning to get two guinea pigs. The hutch I have chosen is very large, predator-proof and I am also buying a cover to go with it for any severe weather. Will my guinea pigs be okay, or will they still suffer in cold conditions?

I live in the area where the company is based, however the closest store near me that sells them has shut down and I am unable to pay by Paypal. Does anyone know any UK shops that sell these (or anything similar)?

  • Oranda goldfish might have dropsy?

I got two orandas yesterday, and I think one of them is showing signs of dropsy - stomach seems bloated, and what -appears- to be scales sticking out on either side of his abdomen. He isn't lethargic, and is swimming around happily so I'm not sure whether it's just the early stages.

Obviously he must have had dropsy at the pet shop, however due to my error I missed the signs. Is there anything I can do for the fellow or is he a goner?

  • Tiny snail in fish tank?

So today I found a minuscule snail in my (not yet stocked) fish aquarium. I've researched them and they're supposed to come in numbers, however as of yet I've only seen this one, though I'm sure there will be others lurking around. ;D I have a plant so the little critter probably got in that way.

I was wondering whether this snail will cause any harm to my fish once I get them - I'm assuming they are harmless, however I want to make sure first. If I'm quite honest I've grown quite fond of the fellow, so it'll be painful to get rid of him if I have to.

  • Fujifilm Finepix S9100?

I've been looking online for this camera -everywhere-, but I can't find it. :| I've tried Amazon, camerabox, Jessops... nothing.

In addition, if you have any sites to suggest make sure they are UK based.

  • 'Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because this is a problem with digital copy protection...'?

I just put a DVD into my laptop to watch, and this message popped up form Windows Media Player:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because this is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."

Never had this problem before. :|

I have tried looking up various ways to remedy this problem, however it all involves downloading "codecs" and other unreliable things. I'm wondering if there is any quick way to fix this problem. Also, if it is of any use, I have Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12.

  • Dog breaking into garden - what action can be taken?

I have been becoming increasingly worried about this situation. My next door neighbours have recently bought an adult Rottweiler (which is a stupid decision, as they already own three dogs and live in quite a small house). This dog has broken into our garden on numerous occasions and has acted in an aggressive manner (growling, barking and sometimes blocking our path as we try to get into the house). Another thing, our cat went missing for 16 hours on Tuesday, and when she returned to our house she was extremely shaken. Now, she will not go outside unless she is accompanied by someone and when we go back inside she will follow us. This is very unusual, as she is a very outdoors-y cat and independent. I also have a five year old brother who I'm concerned about.

I was wondering what action could be taken - we've spoken to the owners, but they don't give a damn; they claim "it isn't their responsibility" and that it's our fault that we have a weak fence. We have also contacted the council about this - they came once, however didn't take any action. I live in the UK, and I really want this situation to be dealt with.

  • Injured Crow in My Garden?

About an hour ago my and my mum found a crow in our back garden - it was just walking around and wasn't flying, and its rear feathers looked a little ruffled. I have been supplying it with fresh water which it has been drinking, and we have called my local animal rescue. They will be coming sometime today, however that could mean an hour or more. I would like some advice on how to look after it during that space of time. :)

Also, I believe some teenagers were in that area around the time we found it, so I believe they could have been distressing the bird.

  • Swollen throat - EXTREMELY painful?

I have had a swollen throat for a few hours now, and by the sounds of it my mum tells it it is most likely my voice box. It is incredibly painful when I swallow (the pain comes from the top/middle of my throat) and it is very hard to eat and drink. I've taken some ibuprofen, however that hasn't given any remedies. I would be very grateful if someone could give me any advice on what I should do.

  • My hamster's urine is a milky white colour?

I was cleaning out my hamster's "pee place" today and I noticed that her urine looked quite milky. It is usually an orange/yellow colour, so I was just wondering if she might have any problems. She is acting normal and alert like she usually is.

  • My hamster is chewing the bars ...?

My hamster, Darcy, is always chewing the bars. She has a big cage with three floors, and many toys. I have also given her numerous wood chews and salt/mineral licks. It seems she is not interested in these and is always chewing the bars at night - I have tried anti-chew spray but this has no affect. Any help?
