What is this nub that forms in my mouth after eating?
I've been experiencing a strange dental problem Whenever I eat something crunchy or dry like chips or french fries this little fleshy nub, skin tag like, forms in the top of the back of my mouth right behind my last molar. pretty much the space that curves upward after your last molar. I've asked my dentist about it but he keeps shrugging it off. It doesn't hurt but it is very bothersome for the hours or days it stays there before it shrinks away. Its always the same spot too.
What is it?
1 AnswerDental4 years agoManagers how do you differentiate incompetence vs thoroughness?
Many people view being competent as being thorough, efficient and successful at a task.
But at what point can you tell when an employee with lots of questions is incompetent and is an ill-fit for a new task vs them trying to be thorough with a new task?
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment4 years agoCan I ask hypothetical questions during an interview?
As the candidate we often get asked the hypothetical question. Most of my questions are about the work that I am interviewing for, but would it be within my right and acceptable to ask questions such as:
"How would you describe your management style?"
"You and your department team are suddenly bogged down with a massive amount work and an important project, that would require overtime. How would you distribute work so you reach your department goals but minimize employee fatigue and burn out?"
Or
"The forecast predicts a large and heavy snow system to hit your company within normal work hours. The company did not and is not planning to close. There is a large amount of work that needs to be ideally finished, but your team are all getting antsy and concerned about dangerous driving conditions. How would you handle this?"
Thank you.
4 AnswersOther - Business & Finance4 years agoTeachers, how knowledgeable were you when you went to graduate school?
I am very strongly considering going back to graduate school and pursuing a MAT and fulfilling my life time goal of being an educator. I graduated with a BS in Gen Bio and would like to teach at the middle school or high school level.
But my biggest concern is how prepared and knowledgeable about the teaching world, the challenges and current issues that classroom teachers are facing when you when you applied? I'm having trouble finding articles about the teaching community And their challenges or resources for perspective teachers. And what are some key factors and program features should I ask about when comparing schools?
I'm studying for my GREs, chose 3 schools I would like to go to and have looked up questions to ask to admissions but they are too general and I'm not sure what to ask to go deeper into the specifics of each program to prioritize as my first, secondary and third school.
Thank you, everyone.
1 AnswerPrimary & Secondary Education4 years agoCan you give an estimation of your previous salaries and job duration on an application?
When filling out an application job sheet, can you provide an estimated dollar amount of your previous salaries and can you give an estimation of job duration?
Does it hurt your chances of getting a job if you provide an estimated value, or must you provide a to-the-decimal value?
Example:
Actual Salary $25,625.60
Can you write in: $25,000 or $25,600?
Actual job duration 3-5-2014 end 12-19-2016
Can you write in 03-2014 to 12-2016 or 2014-2016
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment4 years agoTeachers how do you plan the length of a presentation?
I've been asked to do a 1 hour lesson for a visiting class on the ecosystem, however my expertise have mostly been hiking programs and most of the program is mostly walking and impromptu moments. I'm a volunteer at a local park and don't have any formal education on education.
How do teachers plan their lessons so it can fit into a particular time length? Do you do mock lessons to see if it works out?
Thank you!
1 AnswerTeaching4 years agoLarvae in harvested sunflower seeds! Should I toss it out?
The sunflower head I had picked is still green but the seed are already falling out. I decided to collect the seeds for roasting. But as i was cleaning I noticed many of the seeds had holes in them with little red larvae crawling out and there were miniscule red beetles too.
Is this batch of seeds a lost cause? Can I pick out the chewed seeds and roast the rest?
Thank you for your help
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape5 years agoGuys! Why won't he let me pay?
I don't understand. I thought relying or expecting on the man to pay is an outdated thought. I don't want him to pay for everything we do. Besides There are some expenses that I should pay for, like I wanted dessert but he didn't, or I wanted to buy a candle for myself or friend, or he bought tickets and I wanted to buy popcorn and drinks for the both of us.
People have told me offering to pay is disrespecting him, but if you don't offer you're kind of using him.
Should I keep offering to pay? Should I stop offering?
Why is dating etiquette so contradicting? This is bothering me.
4 AnswersEtiquette5 years agoAre trial dates acceptable?
I am the type of person who doesn't get the stereotypical romantic flare up. The whole this guy or girl is cute, they make me laugh, I can't stop thinking about them, I think I love them, does not happen to me. Not in my 27 years of life. I have yet to think of anyone beyond platonically. But as of late I have been craving for romance, and I have been asked out. I suggested on trial dates to test the waters, hoping maybe their character will spark something in me when we are in a romanic or attempted romantic situation.
3 different folks after, and disappointment from both parties, I'm starting to wonder if this method, that was once told to me was a legitamate, is an outdated way or if both parties need to feel this desire to date and are hoping for combatibility.
Otherwise Im starting to wonder if I'll end up as an old maid because I feel guilty for accepting a date offer even if I don't have a desire but am hoping I will find my date likable for another date.
My best friend says im very reserved with my feelings and am very neutral, and that might be hurting my chances. But I can not pretend I have a crush! That would be rude and dishonest!
1 AnswerSingles & Dating5 years agoWhere can I donate supplies for teachers and classrooms? New York State.?
I have some older store inventory, but new items, that are mostly rulers, children scissors, crayons, pencils, binders, folders, etc that are no longer part of my active inventory and would like to donate them to teachers and classrooms. There's simply too much for me to pack in my car and drop them off at X location if its more than 20 miles fro me, and the schools around me are well off.
I read about teacher stores where teachers can go and pick up items at discount, where the items are mostly donated inventory from big box stores and would like to find a place like that in New York.
Can anyone or any educators suggest any sites that I can either drop off or ship to? Thank you.
1 AnswerTeaching5 years agoTeachers, what are the pros and cons of being a teacher?
I been thinking of pursuing my Masters in Teaching- I have a B.S in Biology. However, I've been out of school for some time and don't have any teachers to chat with about what they enjoy about their profession and what are the challenges they face.
I've heard many non-teachers talk about retirement, school breaks, and how underpaid they are, but I want to know beyond these often discussed items.
I want to have a broader image of a teacher, beyond the student view or the parental view of teachers. I want to know about the teacher's view on teachers!
3 AnswersTeaching5 years agoWhy did you pursue a teaching profession?
I have a B.S. in Biology. For a long time I've held a great respect and awe of my science teachers and as a kid, even envisioned myself to be one day like Miss Frizzle and Bill Nye. I just relished how they could teach and reach out to people with such enthusiasm and enjoyment.
Now that I've been out of school for almost 5 years, doing odd jobs from lab work to conservation work, I'm now at a point where I want to go back to school. I feel like I have a good chunk of work experience and career resources that I can share with potential students.
But I have many doubts about myself. I have very little experience with kids, but the times I did while leading volunteer outreach programs, I really enjoyed it. It excites me when they get inquisitive and start asking questions or prod for more answers.
The main hurdle that I'm facing, is not re-taking the GREs, but rather the essay segment for admissions of why I chose to pursue education. I'm flooded with this expectation that I should be able to discuss about the crisis and strife that our American educators and schools are facing. I can speak generally-but I'm not a subject matter expert. I just want to be able to stand in a classroom, traditional or not, and be able to talk about a subject I really love and with some luck, spark some interests in students, into going and exploring the natural world and seek careers that would improve/preserve it. What pops in my head just sounds much too simplistic and non-academic.

2 AnswersOther - Science6 years agoHow to convince employers that I am still relevant?
This question is two-fold.
About 1 year ago I left my job as a laboratory technician of 3 years for two internships with the National Park Service (NPS).
I enjoyed my internships, but don't feel as though my experience with them is enough to land a full time position in a similar setting. So I'm considering going back to being a lab tech. But every position I have applied to said that I do not have enough experience, or at the interview they are not confident that I can be a lab tech again. One HR even said I compare almost equal to a recent college grad- even with my 3 years of lab tech. I've told them that I've reviewed my study notes and that I am confident that I will pick up my lab skills and understand concepts much quicker than recent graduates, because I have worked in the lab setting before.
In addition, I would also like to continue working with the NPS or similar work settings, so I have been applying to biological tech positions and research assistants etc. My schooling was not very specific on field techniques, and my internships learned skills were limited since they were very job specific. I have a BS in Biology and I've been reading and self-studying up on the subjects that I believe would be relevant to the positions that I am interested in.
How can I communicate to my employers that even though I don't have direct training or that I didn't take specific classes, that I am educating myself on the topic and an willing to learn?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment6 years agoCan a woman science teacher be considered a Woman in Science?
I was having a discussion with my classmates on the topic of Women in Science. Their argument was that you could only be considered a Woman in Science if you are doing active research and development, maybe management too.
Then the question were women science educators considered part of this group. My answer is 'Yes' since educators are the doorway to science. And even though they are not professors or actively doing research they are still teaching it, because they need to understand the material to the extent of being able to communicate it to someone who does not- and hopefully spur interest. And though they may not be doing research, they are still a facet of science.
My classmates put this down saying they are educators and do not fully necessarily understand the research of the topic or the intricacies of said topic. Only if you are both teaching and researching/working can you be considered.
That irritated me because many of my science teachers are females and so is my sister. And they all have at least once in their life time worked in labs or in the field as a career before deciding on Education.
What do you think?
5 AnswersOther - Science6 years agoFace cream that is healing and won't break the bank.?
I never use face cream (unless its sunscreen), I simply don't like the oily feeling or I find them too expensive.
Recently I went through some skin damage- breakouts, sunburn, windburn, lots of anxiety and sickness.
I would like to give my face a little help in healing up and getting it back to looking presentable again.
I wash my face once a day with St. Ives green tea or just a simple water rinse and pat down. And sun screen when needed.
I am looking for something that I can apply at night but wont feel heavy.
Thank you.
1 AnswerSkin Conditions6 years agoWhat are the chances I will get a car insurance claim against me?
I was turning into a parking spot and I heard our two cars hitting. We both got out and we both walked around the cars and both found no damage. And he said he thinks the cars just bumped at the tires.
I said my apologies and left to do my business, completely forgetting to take pictures. The thought of calling the cops didn't even cross my mind. Neither of us asked for information.
Now I'm worrying because, I probably should have said more him, taken photos for future reference, maybe gotten some info from him. Should I have called the cops on this? I feel like I should have. If you could tell I have no experience in auto accidents.
3 AnswersSafety6 years agoBrushing technique for medium shorthair cat? Thick undercoat.?
My cat is medium short hair (?). I brush my cat almost every other day with a kong and a brush, but it never seems to get enough of the dead undercoat. I know that most people advise to only brush along the grain of hair growth but the only effective way I've found is if I lift the patches of hair up and comb the under coat itself or if I take the brush and brush it against the growth of hair and literally fluff the undercoat out.
I've seen the Furminator, but that's money I do not have at the moment for a brush, it's about 30-40 dollars that can go for my expenses that I need to make.
This is the first year I've had her indoors, the previous years she was a stray and so I was not aware of her hairiness, she always seemed a thinner short hair to me when she was outdoors. boy was I was wrong.
Thank you for any suggestions and tips.
4 AnswersCats6 years agoWhat to plant over bamboo roots?
I have a raised bed and the bamboo that was growing there has died but the area around it is rock hard. When you talk about root bound, I mean root bound. Some how some tulip leaves have made it up through that bamboo concrete.
I've cut down all the canes, saved them and shared them with neighbors, now the question is what I can do with the bare area? Should I add to the height of the bed and build it up and plant something over it? Will it grow? Or should I turn the area into this year's compost site?
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape6 years agoHow do the homeless or people who were off the map get jobs?
Every job I've had has always required proof of identity.
How do people like the Homeless or missing persons, who have lost or forgotten their Social Security or have no proof of identity or have lived life under a different name not knowing their birth name go about reintegrating back into the working community?
Just listening to the news about people who have migrated here and are waiting for citizenship sounds like Hell. How do the government/authorities deal with citizens who have gone off the map?
