I've been having an issue for the past few weeks that I have not previously been having with my laptop. Last week, my battery began going dead when it hit 20%. And I mean dead! I have to plug it up to turn it back on. This week, the problem has escalated, and now it goes dead when it hits 40% or so. I don't mean that it SHUTS DOWN, I mean that it just QUITS on me. Like, boom, off. No shutting down process about it. My computer just straight up dies when it hits 40% battery.

I have scanned using Defender and Malwarebytes, and I have found no viruses or Malware. I have troubleshooted the battery life, and all it did was tell me my screen brightness was too high (when my screen brightness has been up for months and hasn't caused any problems). I have scanned the battery with Support Assistant, and it says the battery is fine. I pressed escape when my computer cut on to get to diagnostics, and I did a barrage of system checks, but everything passed. It also said my battery was fine and didn't need recalibration. So if it's not viruses, and it might not be the battery, then what could be the problem? Could there be a glitch in the battery?

I can see how overheating could be a problem, but it isn't even hot most of the time when it cuts off. Heck, I just had my browser up once and it cut off on me, so it's not like I'm always doing something that stresses the computer out.

Also, it doesn't give me any warning before going dead. None, nada. Just BLIP- all my work is gone.

I have tried charging it longer and that hasn't helped. If anything that could have escalated the issue.

Nowhere in my settings have I told the computer to cut off at low battery, and even if I had, there would be some kind of shut down process, not just complete and sudden death, right?

The computer is around a year and a half old (still under warranty, even), and runs on Windows 8.1 (64-bit). The product name is HP 2000 Notebook PC and the product number is D1E81UA#ABA. I bought it from Wal-Mart.

I could send it back to HP to get fixed, since I'm under warranty, but I would like that to be my last resort.

What is going on with my computer? Is there any remedy that won't require sending it back to HP?

I enjoy playing computer games, but there is a problem that I frequently have that makes things difficult. See, when I'm playing minecraft, for example, I cannot place any blocks while moving. I should be able to jump and place a block below me, but I cannot. Holding space, or any key besides the arrow keys for that matter, makes it to where the mouse will not move or click. This means that I have to build stairs constantly since I cannot move and place blocks at the same time.

On another game, Surgeon Simulator 2013, I have the same issue. I hold down A,W,E,R, and SPACE to grab something, but once I have the object in my hand, I cannot move my hand around. Just like in Minecraft, my mouse stops working while I'm holding down any letter on my keyboard.

I have an HP laptop with windows 8.1 (these issues were present when I had 8 as well). This was also a problem on my previous computer (Which had 7), I believe, so I do not think it is just an HP or windows OS issue.Is there any way I can fix this? Surgeon simulator is hard enough without my mouse stopping on me.

I downloaded the game from coolroms.com and run it through No$GBA, and it seems to work just fine. The only problem is, it won't save! The emulator set to 64 KB, or something like that. Why won't it save? What should I do?
