I got a letter today from the SSA administrative program service concerning my late husband?
My [late] husband died about 21 years ago. He was on disability so our son and I were receiving survivors benefits. Of course, my son is now 28 so we no longer have the benefits. Anyway, today I received a letter from SSA saying that their "records show that xxxxxx xxxx is deceased," and that he was due ss payments at the time of his death. They also stated the benefits may be paid to the next of kin. But I have to turn in some paperwork [not much] and send in my birth certificate, our marriage certificate, and his death certificate. I lost my birth certificate and no longer have his death certificate or our marriage certificate. It would be nice to have the money, but I really don't feel like messing with all that. Suggestions?
