  • Why do "good cops" tolerate "bad cops?"?

I've known many good, professional, even keel police officers who go out of their way to provide public service. Then there are those fat, unprofessional jack holes who only know to escalate any situation in order to file charges - those who punch mentally disabled people, plant drugs on people, file bogus resisting arrest charges, etc.

Why do the "good guys" allow them to continue? Why are the good cops complicit with dirty pigs?

  • What paperwork do I need to take to my local sheriff's office for a security clearance (fingerprints)?

OK, so I'm trying to get my security clearance (DA/DOD) and, as a reservist, I'm not near a military installation. I was told to go through my local sheriff's office. I did so, but was turned back because I did not have the necessary paperwork. My unit and battalion security manager haven't been much of a help when I asked what else do I need.

So now, I'm turning to yahoo for help. Oh my...

  • First Reserves mobilization; question about dependents?

Hello all. Former AD Soldier for 8 years. I've drug my family to Europe and across the US with me.

Now I've been with the Reserves for about three years and I am about to be mobilized for the first time. I still haven't figured out all the little ways the Reserve component differs from active duty, so please give some sources.

This is a CONUS mobilization - I'm actually only going to be about a day's drive from home. I will be mobilized to a military installation. The mobilization will last a year.

Now, being a mere day's drive away from family for a year is insane. I deployed four times to Iraq, but its a little different when you're on a different continent. My family and I have decided they are going too.

My question is: are Reservists on Active Duty mobilization orders authorized on-post housing where it is available?

  • I separated from Active Duty Army on 30 December (regular ETS with about 7.5 years service).?

My orders said I am entittled to Separation Pay, dependent on entering into a written agreement to join the Reserves. I did so. Now my question is when can I expect that separation pay?

  • What could possibly go wrong?

The health care plan will be written by a committee whose Chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress which hasn't read it, signed by a President who smokes, funded by a Treasury Secretary who did not pay his taxes, overseen by a Surgeon General who is obese, and financed by a country that is broke.

Does anyone think this will be a success?

  • Is this a widespread Madden 10 glitch? (PS3)?

I'm still high on Madden 10. A few of the usual problems still exist, but for the most part, I've enjoyed this year's game better than most years.

But I think I've found yet another glitch. I'm just wondering if it is widespread or if I'm just having bad luck.

In Superstar mode, I can't advance past week 6. Once I play that game and exit back to the menu, it freezes on the loading screen. It has happened several times now and I can't advance to week 7. Has anyone experienced something similar?

  • Why can't I connect to the playstation network?

I can use the internet browser. I can connect to my networked computers and devices. But when I try to sign in, all I get is a message saying "The connection to the Playstation Network timed out." It has been months since I have been able to connect.

I have connected in the past with my current network setup and I have manually opened the proper ports. Still no luck.

However, when I put try to log in using a bogus password, it tells me that my password is incorrect. When I use the correct login information, the connection times out.

    What gives?

  • How can I figure my COLA rate for 2008 on my wife's FAFSA (active duty)?

I was stationed overseas for all of 2008 and received Cost of Living Allowance. On my wife's FAFSA, I need to know the total COLA I received for 2008. I can only go back to my June 2008 LES on mypay. Where could I find this information?

  • Where can I find the reg covering PTDY?

I would just like to see, in the black and white of Army regulations, the rules governing Permissive TDY in conjunction with a PCS. To be more specific, what the gaining unit can or can not do. Like, can they give a newly arrived Soldier a couple of 4 day passes instead of permissive TDY?

  • Which is better - head of household or joint?

I was deployed to Iraq at the end of July. If I understand correctly, being seperated six months at the end of the year allows me to file Head of Household on my tax return. My wife had no interest and we have a child together. My main question is, under these circumstances, would filing Head of Household benefit me in the long run? (ie, keeping the coming rebates in mind) On a secondary note, July through December is six months, but I was not gone the entire month of July. Does this still qualify as six months?

  • Is the Playstation 3 REALLY superior to the Xbox360?

Sony claimed blu-ray was necessary for this generation of console gaming. If that were the case, why does the Xbox 360 version of NCAA Fooball 2008 support 1080p while the Playstation 3 version supports only 720p?

I'm not a "fanboy" of either system and I enjoy both. However, if the supposedly inferior game format is, in fact, the better choice, should I even bother with the PS3?

HDTV is an important factor for me. Otherwise I would not care.

  • What are the intellectual problems that historians need to be concerned with?

And how does dealing with them (intellectual problems) help shape what the historian does?
