First Reserves mobilization; question about dependents?

Hello all. Former AD Soldier for 8 years. I've drug my family to Europe and across the US with me.

Now I've been with the Reserves for about three years and I am about to be mobilized for the first time. I still haven't figured out all the little ways the Reserve component differs from active duty, so please give some sources.

This is a CONUS mobilization - I'm actually only going to be about a day's drive from home. I will be mobilized to a military installation. The mobilization will last a year.

Now, being a mere day's drive away from family for a year is insane. I deployed four times to Iraq, but its a little different when you're on a different continent. My family and I have decided they are going too.

My question is: are Reservists on Active Duty mobilization orders authorized on-post housing where it is available?

It can be available but it will depend on the post housing itself and if there is a waiting list. Call the housing office there for the most up to date information. You need to check with your unit if they will authorize the movement of your family to that location as if it is beyond a certain mileage it can be allowed, especially if the orders are over 6 months in length.
