Sir Eds
will my phone work in the U.S.?
I've learned from experience that, even if you apply for international roaming, your phone may still not work in another country. So I'm going to the US, my phone's roaming has been turned on, and I want to know if it'll work? My phone is a Nokia C3 and I've recently acquired a ZTE Blade G Pro V829. My carrier is Suncellular.
1 AnswerPhilippines7 years agohow do i get to the coastal mall terminal from manila?
I think there are ordinary buses that pass by that place, but where do they pick up passengers? I once tried looking for one along EDSA at the corner of Taft after getting down from the LRT, but the few non-aircon buses that passed by didn't seem to be interested in picking up passengers.

What does "peat" in the phrase "two-peat" or "three-peat" mean?
My college basketball team recently won the championship in the national basketball tournament for the third year in a row, and the papers are calling it a "three-peat" feat. What's a "peat" and what is its association with sports or contests?

I'm corresponding with someone by that name. I don't know whether to address this person as Mr. or Ms.

"Enough with the girls in kimonos. Where are the high school girls in their uniforms with short skirts?" It's just a joke; I want to put it in a friend's posting of pictures of his trip to Japan (including one posing with girls in kimonos). Arigatou gozaimasu and gomen nasai to anyone who might take offense from this question.

2 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoBesides eating, what can one do in Tagaytay in the evening?
Like, is there a place with a live band or live music? Someone's giving my wife and I a night in Sonia's Garden but, after the organic food for dinner and the massage, what else can we do in the area before going to bed?
5 AnswersPhilippines1 decade agoWhere can I find handheld Philippine flags?
I'm looking for the kind vendors sell before or during Independence Day. Not the kind you stand on your desk, but which you wave at parades or tie to the radio antenna of your car. I need lots for a balikbayan who runs a Pinoy org in the 'States. The ones sold by our consulates are too expensive.

8 AnswersPhilippines1 decade agoIs there an on-line index of all Reader's Digest articles (any edition, as long as they're in English)?
I'm coming up with a reading program for ESL learners and the RD articles are very accessible. I've looked through the RD-USA website and the webs site of one of their foreign editions but all I've found is a link to their previous issues within the last three years. I hope to find less recent ones.

I've gone through the websites of Reader's Digest USA and one of their foreign, English-language editions, but can't find a link to all articles, just the ones published recently. I'm making a reading list for my ESL learners.
3 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoWhat is the meaning of "ustad" or "ustadz"?
Is this a title among Muslims? If so, who can use it or what must one do to be called an "ustad/ustadz"? Is its meaning the same in all Muslim countries or peoples--e.g. in Southeast Asia, Arabic countries, etc?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can I get rid of this virus?
My computer (or my email address--is there a difference?) is apparently sending spam to people whom I don't know, and this spam is about things like viagra pills and so on. How did I get infected and, more importantly, how do I get rid of it? If I just shift to another email address, how do I avoid getting infected again?
13 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoWhat is the meaning of "bandillo"?
Here in the Philippines it seems to be a town crier, or one who spreads news, makes announcements, etc. by going from house to house. But what is the word's origin? I've tried an on-line Spanish dictionary but got nada. Or maybe it's archaic Spanish that got fossilized in the Philippines (we were once a Spanish colony, after all).

1 AnswerPhilippines1 decade agoWhat is a flaglet?
Actually, I know what it is (it's a small, hand-held flag, like those waved by spectators at parades or sports events). What actually puzzles me is that it doesn't seem to exist in any dictionary--at least the on-line ones. MS Word puts a red, wavy line under the word, which led me to discover this fact. And yet a search engine reveals that it is used around the world, even in a British website on flags (flyingflags.org.uk), so it is not a local coinage. So why does it not exist in the dictionary? Can anyone find a dictionary definition?
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoVisita Iglesia question: How do I get to the following churches: San Sebastian and San Miguel?
I'll be travelling by car from Cavite, so the best vantage point is Roxas Blvd. I know that San Miguel is near Malacanang but that part of Manila is like another planet for me. If you could tell me how to get to San Sebastian from San Miguel, that would be great. If not, it's ok if you could tell me how to get to either of these churches from Roxas Blvd. Thanks and Happy Easter to everyone!
