  • UK citizen, travelling on a Greyhound from Seattle to Vancouver. Visa/Immigration help needed!?

I have recently been accepted onto the IEC working holiday initiative, and my work permit has been granted. I am flying to Seattle, (I have an ESTA to let me stay visa exempt) and then catching a Greyhound to Vancouver a week later.

My question is, do the border patrol/immigration officers have the ability to stamp my passport for my year visa? I've been told that they can stamp our passports with the 3 month temporary visa as we are British citizens...but I need the year one issued with my work permit on arrival.

The usual protocol is "When you fly to Canada your visa will be issued" but I can't find anything about driving. I have contacted the Canadian government twice in the last 2 weeks with no reply, so have come here hoping to find some info.

Thanks in advance to anyone who's been in my situation and can help!

  • Starting a new life in Canada....any tips?

Hi, I'm hoping to travel to Canada at the end of November and I was wondering has anyone from the UK been for an extended period of time? Is it easy to find work out there?

Ideally, I'd love to get something lined up before I arrive- I.E, Bar work, or reception work as I've just completed a year as front of house for an International company, Diamond Resorts.

A ski/snowboard resort would be the ultimate.

    Any tips greatly appreciated!

  • Will they re-cast Carl in 'The Walking Dead'?

This is a common issue in TV shows, where from one season to the next a child cast member will experience a sudden growth spurt/deepening of their voice.

It's not a problem in an open ended continuity, but in a show like 'The Walking Dead', time is flowing as we're watching. So season 3 starts the moment season 2 ends although they were filmed months apart- Will they recast Carl now that he's at that difficult age of 13?

  • Tube line from London Victoria to Norwood?

Could someone help me out with which line I would need to get from Victoria station to Norwood?

Also, if we decide to stray away from Victoria initially, which is the most convenient tube station to depart from after that? Huge thanks in advance, I can't make sense of it online.

  • Will I get charged for cancelling my Ryanair flight?

    Ok, here's the situation.

I go to Malta on Monday, and only realised today that my return flight is booked for the 16th JULY instead of Saturday 16th JUNE. There is no flight available coming back on the Saturday, so I started looking elsewhere. I found an Easyjet flight for the Saturday which I'm willing to buy, and just accept the loss on the Ryanair one.

If I tell Ryanair I have found an alternative flight, will they charge me a cancellation fee?

Or shall I just keep quiet and miss the flight?

    Many Thanks in advance.

  • Would you watch a 'Marvel Zombies' film?

The comics are awesome, and there's plenty of potential for a film to be made from the material.

It would be hard to make though, mainly due to the popularity of The Avengers movie and the upcoming Amazing Spiderman....you'd need the same actors etc.

  • Any ideas for an updated tattoo?

Ok, so I have a star like this: http://www.clker.com/clipart-star-35.html on my wrist.

It's exactly the same colour, and it still looks good.

The trouble is, I got it when I was 21 (25 now) whilst I was drunk on holiday- I don't regret getting it done, but I regret not taking the time to think the design through. It's just so....common.

So does anyone have any ideas on how to adorn it to look a bit more unique without adding too much bulk to it? Thanks in advance.

  • Need some info on 'Big Bus Tours' in London please!?

My family are off to do this tour tomorrow and they weren't sure about a few things.

A few questions, how frequent are the buses, and where is the first stop they would board should they arrive at London Victoria? I've visited their website, but it's quite limited on the info side.

Any other info or hints/tips are greatly appreciated. Cheers in advance.

  • Will I be safe buying a TV from this 'Mansion' brand?

Hi, I'm looking for a 32" HD TV so typed in on google "Cheap 32" HD TV" and this site came up.

    www.mansiontv.co.uk

There's one on there for £179 (inc P&P) which seems to tick all the boxes.

But I can't find any reviews or anything about this company or its TVs, so it's making me hesitant to buy. There's only 1 review on there, it's 5 stars AAA etc, but with no details or anything just 'Good service, better than I expected' so it looks like one the company have written themselves.

So has anyone ever had one of these, or heard if they're any good?

  • Is 'Game Of Thrones' worth reading?

I received this book as a gift from a friend, and I'm contemplating whether or not it's time to give it a read. I'm currently reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and coming to the end of the third book. It sounds different to anything I'd choose to read myself, so I was wondering is there anyone out there who could persuade me WHY it's a worthy read.

    Thanks.

  • How long does 'Oblivion' take to get going? (X-Box 360)?

I'm a huge fan of Fallout 3, and didn't get into next gen consoles until last year- I've been a retro gamer and collector for a while now, so the open world/free roam concept truly blew me away.

I bought Oblivion because it was only £10 for the Bioshock/Oblivion double pack....and I just can't get into it. Maybe this is because I fell in love with Fallout first and it just doesn't hold up?

I know there are plenty of people who love Oblivion but hate Fallout 3, so maybe I played them in the wrong order.

Aaaanyways, how many hours does it take to get up and running and immersed in the game?

    Cheers.

  • I'm a huge 'Ghost' Skeptic but I can't explain these events.?

Ok. I don't believe in ghosts, because I feel that the majority of things can be explained away.

Electrics, wind, old houses, people, animals are usually responsible for things people may think are paranormal. Recently, I started a new job in a 16th Century mansion as receptionist and since then strange things have been happening. Remember, I'm a skeptic.

I work shifts, and the last couple of days I've worked 2-10pm. At the moment, we have no guests upstairs (rooms are being refurbed, we have lodges around the site), so it's very quiet in terms of guest flow.

The bar/restaurant staff all went home at 8pm last night instead of 11pm, as it was so quiet.

So it was just me alone, no other staff anywhere. I went downstairs to the toilet and heard someone say my name, so I looked thinking it was a person and there was no one there. It was a woman. I was convinced someone had called me, so I looked around. I thought it was odd, but certainly not paranormal, because I just don't think that way. It's only until I got upstairs I started to feel a bit scared. In the past, people have told me stories like that and I've often said "Ha, why didn't you have a chat with it? Ask what it wants?" etc etc. But it's not like that at the time.

My skeptic explanation for that is I MUST have been imagining it. But it was so clear, and I know I didn't, but I MUST have.

When I got home, my girlfriend and I were getting ready for bed (all the lights were turned out), and she went to brush her teeth. When she came out of the bathroom she said "Did you go in the lounge?" because the light was on. I had just been reading in bed the whole time. I asked her "Are you 100% SURE that you turned it off?" and she said "Yeah because I had to feel around for the bathroom switch because it was dark when I went in." So I went in and turned the light back off. So the actual switch turned itself on. Now I can't explain that.

Today, I went into the back office to unplug my phone from the charger, and came out. 2 minutes later I went back in and both lights in there were OFF. I've been here nearly 4 months, and those lights have always been on. Again, I'm the only one here who has access to the office (has a code on it) and I was sat next to the door so I know no-one went in. Just asked the maintenance man, and he said nope, they have to be manually switched off, and even if it had tripped out- the switches wouldn't be off, and all the computers would've been off also.

I'm going to stop typing now, because I feel stupid for writing such things- even as I typed that I felt that I don't believe in anything, but please can someone try to put my mind at rest.

    Cheers.

  • Best songs to play for a new drummer?

I've played guitar for 10 years (14-24), and have always loved it, but I've recently started drumming too.

I know the basics as my brother got a drum kit about 5 years ago, but we had to sell it due to complaints from neighbours! It's not until recently I had the idea of renting a practice room with just a drum kit in it, and I've been really enjoying it. I just play parts from songs on my Ipod really, but have trouble sticking it out through an entire song.

What are some good ones to learn which cover the whole kit- Hard rock/Alternative genres please, or any popular songs which I may not have considered.

    Many Thanks.

  • List of decent pubs/bars in Brighton?

Just wondered if anyone could recommend some good places to check out on a Saturday night-

Good atmosphere, a few drinks offers/deals, a pool table (not essential), and a good size are a few key points. We're staying in a hotel opposite the pier, but will walk into the main centre.

    Cheers!
