  • a book for religious people about atheists?

hello people, I am looking for a book which will help explain an atheists point of view about religion, reasons we don't believe in aliens, magic, the soul etc. based on the number of religions, how most religions can be tranced back to other religions etc. A book which explains what we do believe in, such as keeping religion out of science lessons and politics. How we get our morals (why 'most' atheists are nice people and do not go around killing people) etc.

I am not trying to convert some one just help them understand my point of view. I want a book which is not completely against religion - I think the god delusion would be too harsh (like asking an atheist to read the bible)

to help me understand a religious persons point of view I have been asked to read 'Mere Christianity' by C. S. Lewis so I am looking for something similar to help a religious person understand an atheists views.

    thanks

  • mysql replication?

I have set up mysql replication with 3 servers, these are set in a loop where 2 is the slave of 1, 3 is the slave of 2 and 1 is the slave of three. so mysql updates can be done to any one of the three. this works except where a table has an auto_increment value and the same table gets updated on two different servers. how do you prevent this. nb the server which the update is sent to is random so i can not choose to send all updates to one server.

  • whats wrong with this?

last week replied to question and it got removed

the question was about who created hell

    my answer contained the following

    1. I said hell is based on a fictional book (like it or not the bible is fictional - it was written by humans and its contents are not real facts - unless you really believe the sun goes around the earth etc.) - (yes fiction CAN contain some truth and be based around real people and real places - that dose not make it a factual book)

    http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fiction

    2. I said god is an alien - (an alien or Extraterrestrial life form is life originating outside of the Earth. - if it created earth then it must have originated outside of the Earth).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraterrestrial_life

    3. I referred to god as 'it' - (as opposed to he or she - i had already used the word god in the sentence so it was obvious what i was referring to and i do not know its sex or if it has a sex.) - (To continuosly use the same noun is bad english.)

  • If god created the earth with the intent of humans living on it?

Then why are there natural disasters - dose he enjoy watching us suffer and die?

he is supposedly all powerful he could have created and put us on a more stable planet.

  • is burial and cremation selfish?

ok - I know historically burial and cremation were ways for safely dealing with dead bodies, and thus helped with prevention of disease

it also made sense to link this with religion so that people would do it - ie if you tell them you need to be buried 6ft down to be able to go to heaven then they are more likely to do it. especially as disease was not very well understood

but these days it is surly better to give your body to medical science. after all you don't need it. and surly its selfish to burn or burry it.

if you give it to medical science people can survive from your organs through transplants and medical students and scientists can study it to help them with everything from performing operations to finding new cures.

and if you do beleive in god - then you only believe the sole goes to heaven so surely giving your body to help man kind would be a far better thing to do than not doing so and so would help you get into heaven.

  • what is god made of?

is he made of atoms - (like carbon) if not is he composed of subatomic particals like electrons, quarks or photons etc. perhaps dark matter or perhaps he exists on a quantum level

if non of these then for him to exist he must consists of something.

  • please explain the soul?

following from an earlier question - if you believe in the soul - please explain to me what it is? have you ever seen one? where in my body can I find it. do animals have them? what biological function does it perform or if it is no longer used did it perform? if it exists when someone dies - has anyone got proof of this? what is its chemical or physical make-up? how does it exist, is it a life form? does it need water to live - to the best of my knowledge all life needs water. if you say not then where is the documented evidence of this?

please limit references to modern texts - the bible is about 2000 years old - as such i do not regard it as an up-to-date reference book.
