I'm an old skool indie rock gurl with a little one who rocks my world. I believe in learning, dancing and good food. I also believe in other stuff, but these are the most important to me at the moment.

  • How do I prepare my stay at home girl for pre-K?

I know she's going to love it, and that transitions take some time, but here are my biggest concerns:

She's always been at home with me and I don't want her to feel forced into school. It's 8-2:30, a long day, especially for a kid who has always been at home. I want to ease her in, if she needs it.

She normally wakes up at about 9 and naps for 1.5 hours at 2 pm. Now she will be in school by 8 am and napping for 45 minutes at 1. She won't nap a second time. I've already tried modeling the school schedule. When she doesn't nap the appropriate amount of time she gets crazy.

I also know that some of this is purely mama worry.

    So...what is your experience/advice??

  • How would prop 8 compromise religious freedom?

Please, try to keep this civil.

I don't understand how allowing JOP marriage, outside of houses of worship compromises the Church's (or Synagogue, or Mosque or what have you) sovereignty to choose whom they decide to marry. The amendment pertained to non-religious, state-officiated marriages. The idea that churches could lose tax-exempt status is, in my understanding, a fallacy based on a single church's ownership of some public lands that they refused to rent to a gay couple for their wedding. The church itself could refuse all it wanted, it was just the public land they owned that could not be denied.

So, I'm not trying to be challenging, I just want to hear real and insightful defense, how does prop 8 challenge your religious freedom or the religious definition of marriage?

  • Do you think it's a role of the gov't...?

to provide for the least of its citizens? In other words, do you think that part of the purpose of government is to ensure that all of its citizens are provided safety, shelter, etc? Why or why not?

I know there are a lot of strong opinions around here, but try to be factual and convincing rather than accusatory or slanderous. I am interested in both sides, and all the gray area.

  • Why is water still being diverted?

Why is Georgia still diverting water from Lake Lanier to Florida for the endangered mussels and to Alabama for power when there is an estimated 90 days left of water supply for the residents of GA? I understand the need to save endangered species, but this is an extenuating circumstance, to be sure.

I would love GA residents to weigh in with their thoughts and concerns. I don't live in GA, but have been hearing the reports on the news.

This just really worries me. How far does this need to go before they get some help?

  • Mystery stink in laundry!?

Ok, so I have quite a quandary!

My husband's t-shirts have a persistent stink. It smells like mildew and dirt. I cannot get rid of the rank odor! Here are the details:

    -I do our laundry together

-The only things that stink are his shirts (not my clothing, not his pants or underwear, not socks, nothing! just his t-shirts!)

-The stink isn't always apparent immediately after washing; sometimes it comes out after he wears the shirt (we think his body warmth "brings out" the smell)

-The shirts in question are both often-worn shirts and infrequently-worn shirts

-I have used baking soda in the wash, followed by vinegar.

What the heck is going on????

  • What can be done to encourage new moms?

This is open to all moms: We all know that bf'ing should be the norm, but it's not. If you formula fed your baby, what do you think would have helped you make a decision to breastfeed? If you breast fed, what was a major contribution to this decision? Be detailed, I'd really like to know what your experiences have been.
