  • What weapon should my barbarian character use?

I'm coming up with several characters for a book I plan on writing, the most prominent of which is a woman barbarian. I was going to give her a sword but half of the other characters have swords so I feel like that's too boring. I thought about a spear, but then I decided spears are too... Straight forward, I guess.

She's a very tall, muscular woman and I want her weapon to reflect a head on and brutal fighting style. Lots of bloody, grappley moves that break the opponent. I'm thinking about an axe currently but I also feel like axes are kind of... Cliche?

She lives in a nomadic swamp culture based around an empire similar to the ancient middle East.

  • What is the cheapest possible car insurance I can get in California?

I am currently in the grips of poverty as I have moved out of my parents house and am attending college. I was lucky enough to get a car, which I need to get to school and work with, but it's not insured yet. I've had my license for about a week now. What is the cheapest possible insurance I can get like this? Which company do I get it from? Any answers are appreciated.

  • My car is stuck in the mud?

I know how to get my car unstuck, but I don't know if I should do it now or wait. It's been raining a lot where I live and the ground is very wet outside. I won't need my car for a while, should I just wait until it dries up outside before I try to get out? My wheels are buried up to the axel almost.

  • Do I have skin cancer?

I have these really, really small white bumps around my eyes, only like three or four really, spaced sporadically on the ridges of my cheekbones near my eye sockets. I've always thought they were some sort of acne, like really, really small whiteheads, bit I can't get rid of them. I've squeezed them but nothing happened. So now I'm worried its not acne and that I have skin cancer. I'm 19, and I've been kind of badly sunburned a couple times, only so bad as to make my skin peel but that was only once.

  • My friends body gets REALLY hot at night?

Ok, so I sleep in the same bed with my friend sometimes (its normal...). During the night his body temperature seems to rise to rediculous amounts, sometimes even to the point where his skin is almost burning hot to touch (I'm really not kidding). Is this normal? What's going on here? Thanks in advance for the answers.

  • How do you REALLY burn fat, without gaining muscle? (This isn't for me, it's for my friend).?

I've never had a problem with my weight. I was born thin, I have a low body fat percentage, and whatever muscle I gain shows really easily because of this. But because I've never had a problem with my weight, I honestly don't know how to lose it either.

My friend came to me recently, asking for advice on burning fat, but I didn't know what to tell her because I just assume everything I hear about it is BS. She wants to lose weight, but she doesn't want to gain any muscle. She wants to stay "soft and feminine" (her words).

So, really, how DOES one accomplish this? And please, I don't want to hear about any "miracle pills" or diets that'll make you lose 200 pounds in one day or whatever, I just want some simple answers. What kinds of exercises are good, specifically? Also, I understand that eating healthy is half the battle. Any answers are appreciated (unless they don't answer my question).

  • Exercises to build back and shoulder muscle?

For clarifocation, I DO NOT OWN WEIGHTS, SO PLEASE ONLY SUGGEST EXERCISES THAT I CAN DO WITH MINIMAL EQUIPMENT. I want to build more muscle on my back and shoulders, and I've heard that pull ups are the best way to do it. I'm not able to do pull ups at my house, however, because I don't have a bar or any other thing to do pull ups on. So my question is, is there some other sort of exercise/exercises that target the same muscle groups, that don't require pull ups? Again, I don't own weights, and I'm dirt broke so I'm not going to be able to buy any anytime soon. Thank you for any answers provided.

  • New Dog in multi animal household?

I've been evicted from my home, and am currently living at a friends house. I brought my 90 lb chocolate labrador with me, but things are rough. For starters, there are already two dogs living here, dachshunds, who immediately went up to my dog and aggressively growled and bit at her. My dog is much larger than them, and I'm sure she could kill them if she thought she had to. She's very sweet, but she doesn't put up with abuse. On top of that, there are two cats living here. She is ok with cats, and even lived in harmony with one once, but that was a long time ago and she likes chasing them if they run from her. I think she just wants to play, as she's never killed anything in her whole life. Finally, there's a parrot living here as well, and I don't know what she thinks of it. Also, the situation here is rough because they treat their dogs very differently from how I treat mine. Normally mine sleeps in bed with me, but they don't let theirs wander the house, instead locking them in a kennel whenever they aren't inside. Any advice on all of this is appreciated.

  • Female Celtic names?

I'm working on a female barbarian character and I'm not sure what to name her. The culture of these barbarians is loosely based on ancient Celtic cultures (right now) and I want to go with names that all the great barbarians had, like Conan, Grognak, Mogar, etc (bonus if you can tell me where all three of those are from). I've researched Celtic and Gaelic names, and the names of Celtic and Gaelic mythological figures, but I want more opinions.

  • I had a fight with my friend, which of us is right?

I'm going to try to be unbiased. My friend called me and said that we needed to talk. Basically it boiled down to her saying that I needed to get a job, and a license. I'm 18, and I graduated highschool already (half a year earlier than normal). I got angry at her, and defensive. I pointed out that until recently its actually been impossible for me to do any of those things, because my family didn't own a car and we live very far out of town, so far that it would take me several hours just to walk to a workplace. We usually ride a taxi to town, but that's incredibly expensive and would cost me more money than I would earn. I could get a job at my house, because my mother and I live on a farm, but as far as she has told me it is a toxic work environment and she might even be fired soon. I pointed all of this out to her. Then I criticized her job, and said it was unimportant. This made her furious, then her mother got on the phone and started yelling at me, calling me a narcissist and saying I was unworthy of her daughter. End of conversation. And now she may never speak to me again.

My opinion (biased): it really felt like I was being attacked, being called worthless. I will of getting a job and going to college, but I procrastinate things. I think I was justified in getting angry at her, and then when I did essentially the same thing to her that she was doing to me (criticize her life choices), she became furious at me and I became the bad guy. Is that not hypocritical?

  • What do I do in this situation?

Sorry for the vague title. There's a guy I like a lot, and we're good friends, but I want more. We kissed a long time ago but he was never really into it. I've been pursuing him for a while, and he kind of flirts with me a lot, but when I asked him recently if he was at all interested he said no. He used to be, but that interest faded with time, and he only flirts with me because its fun. He's had bad luck with relationships recently so that definitely doesn't help. I was wondering if I could somehow win him over, or if he might say he's not interested but really just be scared of going further, or basically just what I should do in this situation.

  • Our cat is dyeing and we can't really help her?

Our cat may have had a stroke, she's not moving, breathing heavily through mouth, paws limp. We need to take her to a vet but that isn't possible because we have no car, no money, and the nearest veterinary hospital is closed and too far to walk to. Any ideas?

  • How to fix thinning hair?

I'm only 18, but I already have what looks like a widows peak even though I wasn't born with one. I have really thin hair, and my hair is thinning/balding around the sides of my forehead. I have bad genetics for hair, but I don't want that to doom me to a life of shaving my head. Is there anything out there that can fix this? A hair growth thing that actually works? I would do anything, from home remedies to expensive store bought hair creams, as long as I knew it actually worked. Any help is appreciated.

  • "God" isn't Gods name?

I'm not particularly religious, but I respect all beliefs. However, I've been told by religious friends not to take Gods name in vain when I swear, for example, if I say "God damn it." I was thinking though: God isn't Gods name is it? "God" is a title. Jesus Christ, Yahweh (I think that's how it's spelled) Allah, these are all the names of God from the religions that tell you not to take the name in vain. God is a title. If I were to say "Jesus Christ" or "Allah damn it" or "Thor strike you down with thunderbolts" THAT would be taking a Gods name in vain, right? Am I correct in this? Are the people who try to correct me whenever I say "God" simply misunderstanding?

  • Are the smell of blood and the smell of rain comparable?

I can't smell very well, but even if I could I haven't smelled much blood in my lifetime. I was wondering though, the smell of blood is metallic, as I've heard it described, so could that be compared to the smell of the earth just after rain? I don't really know exactly how that smells either though, but my brother once said that it smells metallic because of the iron in the soil. I don't really believe this, but is this a comparison that can be made? I'm a writer, and I want to come up with a new way of describing the smell of blood, other than saying it smells metallic, like iron or copper. I want something more unique, and that's what started this train of thought. Anyway, thanks for any answers given.

  • How well do the Martial Arts translate to Books and Literature?

For starters, yes, I will use other resources besides Yahoo Answers to do my research, so please don't mention that in your answer. I plan on writing a book with the martial arts taking a central role. I love the martial arts, but I wonder, is literature an effective means to portay them? I know about Wuxia, an entire genre of writing based on martial arts, but I've never read any Wuxia novels. How do they show fight scenes? When I think of the physical parts of martial arts, I think of fight scenes from kung fu movies, and I have a hard time imagining it translating well to literature. So how do they do it? I guess this question is also about fighting and action in general, as I am an amateur and I'm still not sure how to write convincing action sequences.

  • What are good names of Chinese origin for my character?

I'm writing a short story that mixes 15th century China and Lovecraftian fiction (or possibly a more ancient age in china if that proves more interesting). I'm not sure where my character is going to go just yet, but he's a really tall, muscular martial artist type, basically just a bunch of badass tropes pushed into one character (I don't care if that's lazy, I'll give him a realistic personality to compensate). Anyway, he's going to encounter eldritch beings and his world will be turned upside down. The only question is, what should his name be? I don't know much about Chinese names, so on top of researching culture and names I'm going to ask this on yahoo answers. You can never have too much help.

  • Purpose of Armor in a post apocalypse?

Ok, this is kind of a weird question and I don't really know if yahoo answers is the place to ask it, but here goes. In media such as Mad Max and the Fallout series of video games, which both take place after nuclear holocaust, people make armor out of pieces of leather, road signs, bits of metal, tires, and things of that nature. But I started to wonder: does that serve any purpose even? It wouldn't do any good against bullets, I know that much. What about baseball bats, knives, crossbow bolts, or other assorted non ballistic weaponry? Is armor like this functional against any sort of weapon, makeshift or otherwise? Just something that's been on my mind while playing Fallout.
