Is it painful? How long is my face going to be swollen? Can I eat/drink? I need to get rid of all 4 and I'm nervous

I have never played a sport in my life but I have watched football and know a lot about the sport, I'm not trying to become an NFL player cause it might be impossible, but can I join college football in college without any experience, I just want to have something to do that will keep me in good shape.
