Hey, Im 15 and pretty much my life revolves around horses, dance, and school. I have been riding my whole life, as my mom had many horses even before I was born, so Ive always had horses (And a maltitude of other animals) growing up. Im very active in the USPC. Oh, and Im not the nicest. Alot of people prolly think Im a bitch on these boards. Ah well. Im used to it. I ride english, or, more specifically, Eventing. Eventing consists of 3 parts- Dressage, Stadium jumping, and Cross country jumping. I am jumping around 3'3", have jumped 4', and about 2nd level dressage. My pony, Lestat, is a 15.3 Gray TB who knows way more than I do. Although we are showing BN/N, he's done a one star. I love him dearly. I am also trying to bring along a 12 y/o TB X named Dita, with varing degrees of success. I have been Dancing for 8 years. I also Figure Skate and Ski. I have 2 jobs, and hope to major in Biology when I eventually get to college. (2 more years! :( )

  • What do you think of this mare?

    Hey!

So, I've started working with one of our mares, one who's had 2 months of "professional" training (Backing, with a Western guy) and about 2 weeks of consistent riding on my part. There were a couple of years between the two, and about 6 months between now and the last time I rode her. I've been riding her for about a week. She's an older Trakehner mare, and right now I'm working on getting her consistent at the gaits- I'll worry about engagement and balance when she's built up some condition. I'm not even cantering her semi consistently yet, and when I do I just let her go around as she likes- She doesn't have the physical condition yet to balance, even if she knew how, so I'm not pushing it.

How do you think she looks? It's a crappy video, but I didn't have anyone to video me, so I just had to set it on a barrel and try to ride in front of it.

She's currently really alternating between sucking back and overbending and throwing her head up, but I'd rather have the former than the later. It's easier to get them to reach forward and engage than it is to try to get their head down and to try to get them to stop hollowing their back. I'm preferring her going too fast over too slow because she tends to be a tad lazy, and really right now she's so green I'm not asking too much.

  • I ate raw chicken and beef?

We went to a Chinese buffet today, and they had some raw beef and chicken (And shrimp) by the sushi. People are always teasing me about being a wimp when it comes to trying foods, so I took a little piece of the chicken and the beef, and I ate it. It tasted okay, actually.....But it wasn't supposed to be eaten that way. Apparently, it was supposed to be part of a "Make your own stir-fry" type thing. In my defense, that was said NO WHERE.

Anyways, what could I possibly get? I mean, you always hear about E.Coli and Salmonella, but is there anything else common that I should worry about?

  • Your opinion on the matter? (Asking riding level)?

You see this type of question alot, but it always makes me wonder. People ask what level rider they are, and say what they can do. Other people spit out answers for them and everyone is happy. But how can you judge such a thing? Here we cannot see them ride, we have to rely on what they tell us. And just because one CAN do something doesn't say anything to ones level of skill in the act, their proficiency in it, how well they can do it and to what extent- I mean, a little kid bouncing about at the trot holding onto a cheaterstrap on a school pony can say "I can trot". But so can the PSG Dressage rider. A backyard horse owner can run their horse over a log and say "I can jump". And a Grand Prix jumper can say the same thing. And yet you see so many people just saying "You are a _____ level rider, I would say" and it's like, how can you tell by the simple words given to you? And the ranking system is different for everyone- For some people "Novice" is the same as "Beginner", or "Advanced Beginner" doesn't even exist. Some might compare them to show levels in their mind- in which every discepline the different names of the levels differ.

At such questions, personally I think people who say to consult the person's/a trainer is the best bet, but you see other answers more often.

Your opinion on it? How do you measure it, what do you think?

(And no offense meant to anyone who has asked, or answered, a question like that. I am not directing this at a certain person! But I know people might think that, seeing as that exact type of question is just a few spaces below this one.)

  • Why is western show attire, and tack, so gaudy?

Legit question. I've always noticed the difference between western and english show tack- English is simple and refined, Western more showy, more loud, more gaudy. They have bright, sequined show shirts, boots, cowboy hats. Silver or other such things EVERYWHERE on tack, usually over sized and accentuated.

Is there any reason for this?

Personally, I ride English, and find all the....bling.....very distracting, bordering on tacky. I mean, it should be about how you and your horse perform, not how well you can outshine (literally) the other competitors, and distract from your horse's Performance, and your own, correct? So is this just traditional, or is there a purpose behind it?

  • What eats/kills Trolls? ?

Ok, so my teacher has all these trolls. (You know, the toy ones with the huge colorful hair) Seriously, she has over 150. If anyone touches them she starts yelling she can hear them screaming....yeah, she's weird. But that's besides the point. I want to get her a toy/stuffed animal of what, historically/according to myth, eats/kills trolls. But what is that? SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE!

  • What should I shave on my horses butt?

Ok, I know I will get some stupid answers for this- but this is a legit question.

So, Im going to do a full clip on my horse. I want to leave somehair on his butt but in a design- you know, like this: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=14133&id=127...

(If you can't see it tell me)

So, what should I do? Yes, I know how to clip. I don't need lessons on clipping- just idea on what to clip. It cannot be too intricate though, obviously. So far I have a star, batman symbol, or "horse" in chinese. I didnt come up with them...they are from my friends! (The batman symbol is winning)

Oh, he's a grey (Technically but he looks white) TB, name is Lestat. We do eventing.

  • Has anyone else noticed this?

Like how the questions seem to come in groups. Like the "What pet is best for me" ones all come in a big group, or the current ferret-mania? Its like one person asks it and reminds everyone else that they wanted to ask basically the SAME question.....anyone else notice this?

  • Your opinion- PETA or not? ?

Taking this website into account. Read it through, at least a bit. I think everyone knows PETA's side of it, but what of a investigation of PETA?http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

So if you did, and now know 2 sides of it, what is your opinion on it?

Really, just asking for an opinion. Im not looking for a certain answer, just curious. I know this will stir the pot. But Please be polite to the opposite opinion. (Ie no spurning certain people by name because they don't agree with you, or systematically going through and thumbs downing people who do not agree with you)

  • Any experience in taming/building trust in a cat?

Hey, we found this cat wandering around our farm. He wouldnt let us approach him, but would watch us from about 20 feet. We set a live trap and caught him. We think he is a young male, although we have not checked, but he looks like a younger cat and is a orange tabby, so thats what we assume. He was terribly skinny, but we had to leave for our relative's house, so we put him in a downstairs bathroom, gave him lots of food and water, and left. We would have taken him to a shelter, but all of them were closed for the holiday. Anyways, he was alone for 5 days, and now we are back. He put on weight, still had food and water when we got back, and had been using the litterbox we provided. So he is litterbox trained. He tolerates us touching him, but usually will run behind the toilet and hide. He will not take food from our hand, but will look away from us. He doesnt wildly thrash about if we come near, like the really feral ones we have caught before. He isn't totally feral. We think that he was either someones pet for a very short time or a long time ago, or was a barn cat, and, either way, was dumped by our house. (We live by a shelter that is rarely open- people tend to just dump the pets by us, if it is closed.) We think he lived outside for awhile before we caught him, but we don't know- it has been -11 F type weather for weeks, so he might have just burnt off fat really quick.

Anyways, has anyone had experience with a cat like this, in taming it? I don't mean it follows us about and jumps on our lap- that takes time, obviously. But is there any way to tame him/get him to trust us to the point that he isnt so scared of humans, and we could atleast pet him without causing him distress? We think the possiblilty is there, but how would we go about it? Even if we do not keep him, it could be the difference of sending him to the shelter and him getting put down, or being able to find a home for him as a barn cat, or getting sent to a shelter and being adoptable.

  • Is the U of MN Twin Cities Campus really that hard to get accepted to?

Hey, I would prolly like to do bio, and I hear that that U of MN Twin Cities Campus has a great sciences program, but I also have heard that recently they have really toughed up on admissions. Like you have to be the top of your class, get a great SAT score, and have a 4.0 GPA. Im just curious if these are true.

    Thanks!

  • What type of animal do you think you would be?

Besides a human, what animal do you think you would be? Not your favorite animal, not what animal you want to be, what you think you would be. Although sometimes I guess these are one and the same.

    I think I would be a crow.

  • Help with hair dying ideas?

Hey, Ive been wanting to dye my hair for awhile, but Im not sure what I want to do exactly. It's a brown with some reddish tints, and I could go darker than that and pull it off, but I couldnt go blonde. It'll be about shoulder length with choppy layers.

Also, I thought of maybe doing a gradual reddish color at the tips to the natural color at the roots....has anyone tried this? Does it look stupid or is it ok? I havn't seen it done- that Ive noticed, anyways.

    Thanks.

(Oh, and totally random, but when I straighten my hair it gets really limp, no volume at all. Its really fine, and naturally wants to be kinda straight. Any tips? I usually straighten it by just blow-drying it out straight- I have a flat iron but I usually don't have to use it.)

  • Refrigerated eggs- Incubation possibility? ?

Ok, so I was wondering. I was making cookies when I noticed that the egg had a blood spot on it. (These are eggs from our chickens, not the store) I took out the blood spot and put it under the microscope. (Yes, Im that type) Course, didnt see much, but it got me thinking.

So we have these eggs. Our chickens are still laying, but it rarely gets up to 20 degrees here (F), so all eggs will be exposed to below-freezing temps. I was wondering if eggs that have been refridgerated/kept at very cool temperatures can still be incubated and develop. If so, how many days could they have been kept at these lower temps (We are talking 0-23 degrees F) before you won't be able to incubate them?

I know that the longer it has been from the time they were layed the less chance there is of them developing when incubated, but I have never tried to incubate eggs this far into winter.

    Thanks!

  • What can I do to improve my looks?

    Like haircut and makeup.

I know I need to lose weight and im working on it.

My hairs kinda a medium brown, although it varies because it bleaches out a shade or so in the warmer months.

In This picture I have no makeup on and I just have my hair pulled back, its not that short. It just has some layers in it that are too short to be caught by the ponytail. Its really just down to my shoulders about. But Im really good at avoiding cameras, so its about the only picture I got.

    http://i37.tinypic.com/8x06y8.jpg

Be as mean as you want, um Im open to anything but cutting my hair really short. I have to be able to pull it back still, for dance.

    Thanks.
