  • In this situation, who in your opinion is in the right?

Last night I went out with some friends for new years eve. This girl who is my friends friend (not my friend) got really wasted, throwing up constantly and was unconscious etc.

Being the good person that I am I felt sorry for the girl so I helped her. We got the taxi with my friend to her place and helped put her to bed.

I was quite drunk myself and apparently I said to my friend after I got into the taxi that I would chip in for the fare. However, I did not say how much exactly this was under the assumption that the taxi would also take me home.

So we got her friend to bed and the taxi man was charging as a lot as it was New Years and gave us a ridiculous price to drive me from the girls home who we put to bed. So I walked all the way home from the girls house to mine in freezing cold weather with just a t-shirt on top as I left all my stuff behind my friends who I was meant to stay at that night including all my essentials like my coat, keys, work ID etc. Which I have to travel all the way to get back today as I am working tomorrow.

My friend text me saying I owe her £20 out of the £55 of the total cab price. I said my friend shouldn't have to pay and neither should I as we were helping her and she is not even my friend although it is her friend. My friend said that her friend cannot afford it as she doesn't work but we do which I think is a bad excuse.

I strongly feel that I should not have to pay anything. Do you think I should have to pay at all?

    Thank you.

  • Can T-Mobile (UK) legally terminate my phone contract?

T-Mobile made a mistake and accidentally gave me a really good cheap deal. The contract for this deal has been active for about 7 weeks now.

They have tried several times to tell me that I am on a different deal. Today I was told that they made an error, that I am not supposed to be on a deal this good. They have admitted they have to honour it, but only for the minimum term of 12 months.

I have been with T-Mobile for over 6 years and each year I have had a contract with them it was automatically renewed after the minimum term was met until I specifically requested to terminate the contract or requested to go on another deal. They are trying to bend the rules to work in their favour to correct their error. Plus, I was also told by another woman on the phone that I could just keep renewing it every year, which every phone conversation gets recorded so I can use that as evidence.

Therefore, to my understanding they cannot legally cancel my contract after a year unless I request to do so. Is this correct?

This has been very stressful as I have now spent countless hours on the phone with them trying to sort this out.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated and will put my mind at peace. :-)

  • Can a phone provider take away a deal that I have already accepted which was given to me by mistake?

I am on a SIM only plan in the UK. Every year I am due an contract upgrade/renewal, I negotiate and always end up with really good deals. This year I managed to get the following deal:

    £8.84/month for 12 months

Sim Card 1: 700 Minutes (any network)

500 Minutes (to other people on the same network)

    5000 texts

    1GB Internet (unlimited browsing & e-mail)

Sim Card 2: 500 Minutes (any network)

    Unlimited texts

    1GB (free browsing)

I said to the sales agent that I did not want or need a secondary line/SIM card. However, he informed me that it was a free added extra to my deal and it is still the best value deal he could offer me. It was still a good deal without the free extra so I took it anyway and thought I could give the other line to my mum.

After accepting, the next day I called again to discuss options for my second line. I was told that I could cancel it with no penalty charges and I was in the "cooling off" period. So I thought If I did this then my overall bill might be reduced. In turns out that the previous sales man lied to me, the second line was not a "free extra" but rather the main thing I was paying for. I would have been charged £8.50 per month for line 2 and £0.43 per month for my main line resulting in the £8.84 overall bill per month.

Therefore by cancelling line 2 I am now only paying £0.43 for my whole contract (main line deal). It was too good to be true so I asked to have it sent in writing via a text from the company and I got it.

Is there any way they can take away my contract because I ended up with an almost free deal by mistake?

  • Is it ok to continue running when you have a stitch?

I got a stitch yesterday when running that was quite painful so I had to stop after 10 minutes. To make up for the short workout I tried again today. I got a stitch again today but this time I continued jogging/running for 30-45 minutes even thought I had a stitch the entire time.

Are there any risks with exercising when you have stitch?

    Thanks.

  • How to prevent a stitch while jogging/running?

I am new to jogging/running and the first few times I did it, it went okay. This time I got a stitch early on and I had to stop after 10 minutes.

I ate about 2 hours before

I drank plenty of water before

I did one round of sit up and push ups about an hour before

I warmed up with a 5 minute brisk walk

I alternated between fast walking and light jogging

    Any suggestions? Thank you

  • Should I cut off the friends and family that make no effort with me?

I think I speak for us all when I say that we all have friends and family in our lives that the only times we interact is if we make the effort first.

In my mind if they REALLY care about you they will make the effort right? So should I cut those people off that make no effort with me?

  • What are the chances of getting a coursework remarked at a much better grade (UK)?

Basically I just received my final result today which is just a provisional mark for now.

I got 66% in my final assignment which isn't bad but it makes my overall grade for the year 68%, I am a little gutted that I missed getting the highest grade by 2%.

In order for me to achieve a first (70% overall) I have worked out that I would need 76% in my last assignment.

Is it pointless in trying to get my last coursework remarked for an extra 10%? Has anyone had experience in getting their assingments remarked for a higher grade?

  • Will I get sick from eating food that was cut by a knife that was previously used to cut raw chicken?

Basically my flatmate was a bit careless and he went to the kitchen to cut some cake with a knife that was already on the kitchen counter. He did not know that I had used that knife earlier to cut raw chicken. We both ate a cake that was cut by a knife that was used to cut raw chicken. Should we be worried?

  • What is the best way to get fit without spending money or losing weight?

My diet is healthy so I am looking for advice on exercise please.

I am 170cm and weigh about 55kg so technically I am just about in the healthy range but almost underweight. I find my muscles are weak and I get physically tired quite easily, I am looking to get fitter without losing weight or spending money.

I heard running is the best exercise you can do without spending money as opposed to swimming or gym which will cost money. Is this true?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Is it safe to cook turkey fillet that has been defrosted for 48 hours (read for details)?

I froze the turkey fillets a few days before its use by date. I defrosted them late last night and today they were defrosted so I have been marinating them in sauce for about 7 hours but there was a change of plan and I went out to eat so I still havn't cooked them yet. Would it be ok if I cook it tomorrow night instead?

I heard you should cook meat within 24 hours of it being defrosted but as I defrosted the meat a few days before its use by date so that does mean its safe for a few more days?

  • Is £50 a good price to get my teeth cleaned at the dentist? (UK)?

I am being charged £50 to have my teeth cleaned. Not whitened just cleaned (getting rid of plaque and tartar etc.)

Is that a good price? Or should I look else where for something cheaper?

  • Can I sue someone for harassing me by calling me on blocked number for 5 years?

  • How do I prepare myself for finally finding out who has been anonymously harassing me for 5 years?

Basically, some crazy obsessive girl has been pestering me withheld phone calls for about 5 years. She has always blocked her number and never revealed who she was.

I was informed today that the police have traced the number and I shall soon find out the identity of the person that has been harassing me.

I feel anxious because it could be such a shock to finally found out after all these years. What if it turns out to be the person I least expected it to be, like someone I am still friends with today? I just need to know who it is so I can cut this person out of my life whoever it is and move on. Not knowing who it is has made me very paranoid over the years about who it could be and trying to work it out.

  • How to fix a stove that stopped working from getting too wet?

Basically my flatmate really burnt his cooking on the stove. There were jet black burn marks on top that would not come off so boiling hot water from the kettle was poured over it and scrubbed it clean. We managed to get the marks off but now the stove will not work (no fire or clicking sounds). How do we fix this?

  • University second attempt exams rules (UK)?

I have an exam tomorrow and I am really worried that I will not do well because I have been feeling really sick the past few days. I did fine on the unit coursework, I got 67% which count towards 50% of my grade towards the unit so I currently have 33.5% for the unit already.

My question is, if I get below 40% in the exam do I get a second attempt or is it only if I get 40% for the unit OVERALL including my coursework?

I only need to get 13% in my exam to get 40% overall for the unit. So If I did get 13% (or below 40%) do I get a second attempt or not?

    Thank you.

  • Is it rude to ask a church to stop chiming their bells after 2-3 consecutive hours?

I live near a church and for some reason when they chime their bells it can last for up to 3 hours. I have exams coming up and I need to revise but I am finding it too difficult with the church bells. Is it considered rude if I go to the church and explain the situation to them? Are they likely to stop? I cannot think of a reason why they would be ringing their bells for this long! It is past 9pm over here.

  • What sort of compensation could I receive from this?

Basically a girl has been prank calling me on a blocked number for about 5 years and I finally reported this about a week ago to the police as I had enough.

I have no idea who it is she would call me up to 8 times in one day it doesn't matter what I do whether I just ignore the calls, pick up the phone and put it mute to waste her minutes/credit or engage with her or if I change my number she somehow got it again and does not stop. She called me again today, I got my friends phone and called the police as she was prank calling me but I put the prank caller on mute so she couldn't hear that I was speaking to the police. The police officer I spoke to on the phone said they may be able to get the number traced and release the information to me so I can take her to court.

If I found out who has been harassing me for 5 years and I decide to press charges what sort of compensation could I get?
