  • I have a denim shirt that is three sizes too big?

I have a long sleeved shirt made of thin denim, or looks like denim.

It has plenty of fabric. It says on the label 60". I'm a UK size 12.

    I am an intermediate sewer.

I want a comfy jacket to wear over a fitted shift dress that I have made. I am also making a denim newsboy hat to finish off the look.

I am looking for a sewing pattern/tutorial, to either make the large shirt fit, or to cut it up and use a pattern.

The look I am looking for is casual, with a clean look. I need something shaped, not boxy.

    Any Ideas?

  • Music Tracks for Joggers?

I have 'Now Thats What I Call Running' and other fast paced music.

I listen to my phone when I do my walk/run program.

I find the music I have too fast for my pace, so I get tired quickly.

Can anyone suggest artists/albums that are of a medium pace, that would suit a jogger instead of a runner?

  • Do you remember this book from the 80's?

It was about a girl called Ursula, who turned into a bear when she ate hunny(?) sandwiches.

Thanks all I can remember at the moment.

I remember reading it at junior school, which for me was in the 80's.

  • I am looking for a knitting pattern for wrist warmers?

I want to make the wrist warmers on DPN (double pointed needles), I want a single cable running up the top of the hand and no thumb.

I am looking for a free pattern.

Can anyone tell me a site for the pattern, or give me an idea on how to make my own pattern, especially on how to make the thumb hole.

I am quite an experienced knitter. I haven't done cables for a while, I'm a little rusty. Currently I am knitting my first pair of socks. And that is going really well.

Thanks for reading. If you need more info leave me an answer and I'll try to give as much info as possible.

  • I want to make an ankle length dress, any tutorial ideas?

I am going to a family BBQ at the end of the month. They all know about my sewing and I would love to wear something I have made myself (up to now I have only made shirred dresses for my daughter).

It needs to be ankle length, and made of cotton.

I am an intermediate sewer, and I like a challenge.

At the coast, I found that shirred ankle length dresses were popular, but the fabric was that shiny cheap jersey. I am tempted to make my own (which I can)out of cotton, but would like to know if there are any other possibilities, as the dresses I have made my daughter are almost the same.

  • Preparing fabric to dye?

I have a double sheet that is peach. I would like to dye it blue.

Do I need to pre-dye it to remove the peach? If so, is there a way of doing that (ie with bleach) at home without buying expensive dye removers.

  • Dress tutorials for girls?

My daughter is going to a birthday party next weekend. I want to make her another dress. I have made her 2 shirred dresses, but I want to make her something different.

    I have a few problems:

1, She doesn't want a dress with buttons or zips.

2, I don't like bubble or pillowcase dresses.

3, A daddy that doesn't really like anything that looks handmade.

I prefer tutorials with pictures, as I am a visual learner. Needs to be made with cotton, as that is all I have in my stash. I am an intermediate sewer, but willing to try advanced patterns if they are what I am looking for.

My daughter is 4, and tall for her age.

Any tutorials (can be blogs or videos) that can help me make something my daughter will love will be great.

If you need more details, leave an answer with the info you need.

    Thanks for reading.

  • Dress a 50 year old doll traditionally?

My mum has a doll that is 50 years old. It is the approximate size of a 6-9 month old baby.

It doesn't have any of the clothes that is was given in and she would like to make it some clothes that would be in-keeping with its age.

Any suggestions? We are both competent sewers (and I have a sewing machine).

  • What is the best way to finish my English Paper Piecing project?

I want to keep the jagged appearance I have on the two short ends.

Any links or ideas would be great.

This is my first project, so easier ways would be better, and harder ways would be great for future projects. I would prefer to finish by hand, but I do own a sewing machine.

    Thanks for reading.

  • Interfacing or Spray Starch?

I am going to make a new credit card wallet. I can't find one I like, or that has enough room so I'm going to make one. I am using cotton fabric and it has no body/structure to it.

Would spray starch work instead of interfacing? I don't want to bulk out the wallet with an extra layer, the cards will do that.

  • Advice from crafters with self-healing cutting mats.?

I have ordered a self-healing cutting mat, so that I can use the rotary cutter I have purchased.

My question is, if I put the mat under my fabric while I am pinning it, will I damage the mat?

Currently I pin on top of my sewing desk, and I am starting to mark it. Would my cutting mat protect my desk, or would I be ruining the mat?
