  • Who should I use as my references?

I've just started sending out applications for first jobs. I recently left education. The job I'm applying for asks for two professional references- one has to be an educational reference and the other has to be a previous employer. Both have to have known you for three or more years.

The educational reference is sorted, I'm using one of my former teachers. But who do I use for the employment one? I've never had a job before. I've volunteered, but, the people where I volunteer haven't known me for three years.

    Advice, please?

    Thank you =)

  • What's a good first car?

I'm going to be getting my first car soon, having passed my test last year. I want the opinions of more experienced motorists on what the best first car is- speed wise (I don't need a car that can do 150mph, for example), safety, handling and comfort. A lot of people I've asked have said the Vauxhall Corsa is a brilliant first car, what do you think?

I have a pretty well paying job so I can afford to buy new, but I can't go over £17,000. I learnt in a Ford Focus, if that helps at all :)

    Thanks!

  • 18 year old dating a 30 year old?

Hey, guys. This isn't what you're probably thinking. I'm an 18 year old male, and I've become really friendly with a 30 year old woman. I've known her for about four months, after I helped her out with something.

Anyway, we've been talking about taking our relationship to the next level- dating- but all of my friends and her friends think it's really weird. I'm not bothered by that in all honesty, but my friends keep pointing out things like: 'when you're 30, she'll be 42!' ect ect.

What's really weird is that she's only five years younger than my mom. Yes, my mom was 17 when she had me.

To be honest, I don't have a specific question, I just want your general opinions on the matter and maybe some advice. Good or bad opinions, I don't mind- just try to keep it logical. Thanks!

  • Restarting the Violin?

I began playing Violin at the age of 5, and reached Grade 5 before being forced to quit at the age of 11. I wouldn't say I was fantastic, but I enjoyed it and had a good level of skill. The school I went to from 11-17 only offered two musical classes, guitar and piano, and my town was awful in terms of musical tuition.

My question is this: how difficult would it be to restart the Violin after seven years away? I've not had a single lesson and only played a few times to provide the soundtrack to a friend's school media project. I'm worried that I'm going to buy a new violin and fail miserably. I just love the violin so much that now, when I'm finally able to begin again, I want to leap at the chance- but not if there's a chance of falling.

    /overly dramatic

    Thanks guys :3

  • I'm scared to make phone calls?

I know how silly this sounds, but it's true. I was diagnosed with GAD and social anxiety 8 months ago.

I recently applied for quite a few jobs and this is my first time job hunting as I just left College. Anyway, I'm terrified of phone calls. This lady left a message while I was out asking me to phone her for a phone interview but I just cannot bring myself to call her. Now, the strange thing is this: I'm okay with talking to people face to face, but I just can't manage phone calls. If she had asked me to go in for an interview, I'd be worried (naturally) but I could do it with relative ease.

Has anyone ever heard of this before and/or have some tips on how to conquer it?

    Thanks!

  • Should I buy the Wii U or wait for the PS4?

I have enough money to purchase a Wii U, but I can't decide whether to buy a Wii U or wait for the PS4? I'm what you might call a 'hardcore' gamer, but I fancy a change and the Wii U looks a little more casual. I'd be able to get the PS4, just not on release.

So, in your opinion, should I buy the Wii U or wait for the PS4? Please give reasons for your decisions.

    Thanks!

  • Question about anxiety medications?

I visited the doctors surgery earlier today for pretty severe anxiety, and I have been prescribed Sertraline. I am worried about the side effects, particularly that it states that the user may undergo severe suicidal thoughts and 'strange feelings' during the early stages of medication. The various other side effects (such as nausea, dizziness, erectile dysfunction and 'vision disturbances') also worry me quite a lot.

I just want to know (from medical specialists or people who have taken the drug) how likely I am to get these nasty side effects? What are your experiences taking Sertraline?

  • Bringing a new cat home?

We already have one cat, a 1 3/4 year old male. He is extremely shy and timid around the neighbourhood cats, mainly because they beat him up a lot and he's such a small cat that he really can't defend himself against the bigger cats. :/

Anyway, we'd very much like to buy a new kitten, but I need some advice.

    1) What gender do you think would be better, another male or a female?

    2) How would we introduce them? I've heard that having a 'safe room' for the kitten and rubbing a towel on each of them so they can learn each others scent works. Is this a good idea?

Any other advice is welcome, thanks!

  • Xbox Live tenure help?

Hey, I have a question regarding my Xbox LIVE tenure. I have been on LIVE for three years now, it was my third anniversary in December last year. In mid-December, as I was expecting, my little 2 in the top right hand corner of my profile changed to a 3 to mark my third year.

However, I've just turned my 360 on for the first time today and noticed that is has reduced to a 1. It's saying that I've only been on LIVE for a year. All of my Achievements and other LIVE features are fine, it's just the year number that has faulted.

What should I do about this? Could it be a glitch that will right itself later or something more serious? Do you think I should give Microsoft Support a ring?

    Thanks,

    Will

  • Question about Capture Cards?

I started a YouTube channel a while ago which has, up until now, been just about Minecraft. I make tutorials, gameplay ect. I would now like to expand into console gaming videos but I have very little experience with capture cards. I would like to know:

    - What is the best capture card to buy for use on an Xbox 360?

    - What price range would I be looking at?

Could you also give me a general idea of how to use one? I'm completely clueless when it comes to capture cards.

    Thanks!

  • 360 games with odd Achievement Points?

I'm currently stuck at 31,409G and would like to even my score out. I'll need either a 1G achievement or a 6G. I know Forza 2 has a few 1G's but they are for collecting a large amount of cars which could take quite a while. I'd like it to be reasonably quick to get, taking no more than 2 hours of playing, if that's possible.

Best suggestion and/or list gets best answer!

    Thanks!

  • Is there any hope that I can rid myself of GAD?

I was diagnosed with GAD in June this year. It is ruining every aspect of my life. My social life has been destroyed as I'm often to scared to meet my friends in town- but for no reason. Sure, I go out and about every day but I don't actually /do/ anything. I'm not currently in education as I left due to my GAD. I am looking for a job and have applied to multiple places and have heard back from about 3/4 of them. I hope that getting a job will force me to interact and gain confidence. I think that the real reason that I've feeling it so bad is that I have no job/education to go to daily. I basically wake up to go back to sleep.

I have been going to a psychotherapist (or whatever they're called) since August but it has done nothing. I asked if anti-anxiety drugs could help but she pretty much ignored me. If I went to my GP, would she be able to help me more than the therapist did? Do you think Anti-Anxiety drugs would work?

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Could you list some music that you enjoy?

Hey, I'm trying to listen to some new music, but it's hard to know where to start. So, could you just list five-ten artists that you listen to along with their genre?

    Thanks!

  • How possible is it to study at a foreign University?

I am nearing University age and will need to think about applying next year. I would like to leave the UK (I live in England, if that helps) and attend a University in a different country. The countries I'd most like to go to Uni in are:

    - Australia

    - New Zealand

    - United States

    - Canada

As you've probably noticed, I would prefer to go to a primarily English-speaking country, although I'm willing to learn a new language if needs be. My question is this: what is the process for applying to a foreign University? I understand I will need a Visa of sorts, but is there anything else? Aside from the obvious, such as housing ect. What is the best place to stay if I could get a place? On campus or try and rent my own apartment with a couple of others? I'm sorry if I sound really ignorant, but I don't have much experience with this kind of thing.

  • What Limited Edition should I get out of these two?

I have been saving up for the explosion of game releases later this year, and have decided what games I wish to purchase. What I can't decide, however, is what games to get the limited/collectors edition for.

    The games are:

    - Assassins Creed 3 (Join or Die Edition)

    - Black Ops 2 (can't afford the 'Care Package' one but can afford Hardened Edition)

They're both around the same price, but I can only afford one. So, Assassins Creed 3 'Join or Die' or Black Ops 2 'Hardened Edition'?

    Thanks!

  • Are 'Gaming Glasses' worth the money?

I spend a large amount of time on both my computer (for work and play, but mostly work) and my various gaming consoles. I often suffer from headaches, eye fatigue ect when I spend a lot of time working/gaming. I was wondering if purchasing a pair of Gunnar Gaming Glasses would be a good decision. They're £50 each (USD $80) so they aren't *that* expensive. Do you think they would be worth while? Do they actually work and combat these symptoms?

    Bonus question:

Would I need a separate pair for computer and gaming? As in, a pair for the TV screen and another for my computer monitor?

    Thanks!

  • I dislike 'going out'?

I've always, as long as I can remember, disliked social occasions or just being in certain public places, such as restaurants, barbers, shopping malls, all shops. I don't dislike the outside, in fact I love it. Take me to a park and point me in the right direction and I'll walk for miles. I love everything 'outdoor-sy', I just don't like being in town centres/city centres. I really don't understand. It's not that I hate people, I will still love a hike through a really busy park, it's that I just hate populated urban areas. Strange, right?

I'm currently receiving treatment for an anxiety problem (GAD), could this be the reason why I seem even more despondent about large public areas? Is it a type of phobia? Any help is greatly appreciated :)

  • What do you think of the current explosion of people wanting to be in the Olympics?

The title was hard to phrase, I apologise. If you hang around the 'Olympics' section then you'll probably have seen the vast amount of people asking how they can be in the Olympics. I find it silly how people seriously think that in three years, or less, of training, they can become the next world champions and go straight to the 2016 Olympic Games. Some sports, such as Rowing, do allow this, but most (such as Gymnastics, Tennis, Fencing ect) simply will not.

What do you think about these people? Are you one of the aforementioned? Lastly, when, or if, you respond to a question like 'if I train really hard can I become an Olympic Gymnast in three years?' how do you respond? Take the nice route and say 'anything is possible' or be straight up with them concerning their chances?

    Thank you :D
