  • Any good books about ladylike/girly girls who ARENT the antagonists?

I am SO SICK of heroines of both good and bad books being, well, the heroines (likeable, capable, strong, intelligent, etc) while a female who dares who embrace her femininity is the villain, the queen bee, the nasty rival, etc. if it's OK to have heroines who like acting like guys or doing "boyish" activities, why can't we also have some who act like proper ladies or are into girly stuff?

also, I'm 20 so no kids books please (although classic kids lit like Anne of Green Gables can be ok, but PLEASE mostly YA/adult!) especially if it is Christian.

    thanks very much.

  • Why do my Starbucks Doubleshots leave an aftertaste like rye bread? ?

seriously, that's what it tastes like, haha. since the DSs have so many vitamins is it because it shares one or more with the rye bread to give it that taste?

  • does my guy friend at work like or, he is just nice?

well, kind of a friend. I like him and would like to be friends but we arent quite there yet, maybe acquaintances but we do at least make sure to say hi every day. anyway,I'm 20, not had much experience with guys, although I do have a boyfriend as equally reserved and unsociable as I, haha. anyway I work as a stocker at walmart, and during zoning (where we basically organize stuff and place moved items where they go) this guy my age who I've zoned aisles with before suddenly talks to me and introduces himself. we talk about work and general stuff. now we say hi to each other every day. he always smiles, though he doesnt look the type who normally would. not gothic or anything, just reserved like me. and he talks to me like he WANTS to, not just because we're working together and he feels he has to, even though since I rarely know what to say to guys my age I get nervous, and assume he must find me boring. I think I'm attractive and have been told so but my skin isnt very clear, something i'm pretty self conscious about, so much that I dont think guys find me very attractive since they never talk or rarely look at me (and I'm not desperate for them to either, dont worry) but a couple have liked me in school.

so does he like me or what? I dont want to assume people ever like me but I want to know, especially so I dont accidentally give them the idea I'm flirting or interested. thanks. no rude answers.

  • I dont know how to talk to guys?

I'm 20 and guys still make me nervous, as I have had little experience with them in life (mostly female family, bullied by guys in school, and mostly ignored by the rest). I just can never think of what to say to them! This guy at work talks to me sometimes, I think he might actually like me, but he catches me at random times so I can never plan ahead what to say. He mostly asks how I am since being somewhat new they have given me an especially big amount of hours, or jokes about something. I have actually been told I'm funny and have wit, but it's hard for me to joke around guys. I have a dry humor and I think this doesnt get across to many people, plus it's just hard to talk to guys unlike girls, who don't usually judge you or make fun of you when you chat. Anyway, I'd like to be friends with him but I'ma fraid because I'm so quiet (he kind of is too) I must seem boring, but he acts like he genuinely wants to talk. like the other day I walked past him without saying hi because he was busy talking to someone and I hate to interrupt people, and he pretended to be upset and went, "Don't say hi to me or anything!"

so what are some responses to say to guys in general? how can I learn to be funnier around them even if I dont expect them to walk by and make a joke? You might see this as a silly question but I have to work around a TON of guys, and I think it would be easier if I knew what to say.

  • does this guy at work like me, or just nice?

Hi. I'm 20 and work as a stocker at walmart. during zoning (when we all organize the shelves and items basically) this kis around my age who works in produce started talking to me. we complained about how boring the zoning is and general stuff. we say hi whenever we see each other. I'm so nervous around guys even though I have a boyfriend (who lives over in Canada at the moment). I never know what to say. I'm afraid I seem boring because I'm so quiet but he always talks to me like he really wants to and is nice. He seems more confident to me and always smiles not in a fake way, but seems like he might be slightly shy too. I think hems nice and funny but I feel embarrassed around guys. I was kind of awkward looking in grade school and boys hated me. once I turned 16 or so they got nicer, and I admit I do look much better now that I am older.

I had a couple guys act similarly in HS but they also teased.

Are we just friends or what? Trust me, I hate assuming people like me (it's kind of embarrassing because I dislike drawing attention to myself, though I'm not shy or unconfident) but I want to know so guys wont think I'm flirting or whatever. sorry if it's a dumb question but I have little experience with guys me age (my equally unsocial bf and I met on a movie site, haha) thanks. no rude answers please.

  • Who should my style icon(s) be?

my style changes a lot, although it's always kept modest (as in I would never dress slutty). I believe in dressing femininely but I like some punk stuff like studs and safety pin shirts. I also love romantic/ethereal clothing like flowy dresses, lace up victorian boots, corset vests, etc. here are some pieces I love:

    combat boots

    skinny jeans

    bermuda shorts

    50s dresses

    flats

    berets

    trench coats

    hippie skirts

    pearls

    lockets

    converse sneakers

    button down shirts

    sweetheart neckline shirts and dresses

    floral sundresses

    bow headbands

    girly stuff in general

I am usually against trends but occasionally there are some I like. I hate edgy/wild clothes like Rihanna wears.

    Thanks!

  • Classic hollywood is overrated?

does anyone else realize this? people seem blinded by their "glamour" which is understandable but still shallow.

most actors underacted, most actresses overacted. most of the women wore 50 lbs of makeup, more than most today wear (and yes, I know they "had" to because of the lighting/black and white, but then you should know almost none were naturally pretty) and many, like today's, were average looking (some however looked GREAT like Vivien Leigh, Yvonne DeCarlo, and Audrey Hepburn).

they had way way way WAY more problems than today's. dont confuse them as classy just because they were mostly hush-hush about it. they were almost entirely druggies, drunks, cheaters, homewreckers drama queens, had abortions, OD'd, married and divorced several times, posed nude (you know, the thing Miley, Demi Moore and others get crap for?), were attention-whores, bisexual, slept around, etc. Many were talented and intelligent but they were not the flawless gods their fans make them out to be. They were not classy, just glamorous because the makeup, clothes, hair, camera, lighting, poses, and beauty made them seem so. They were as fake if not more than today's actors, so I think people can stop complaining about and crapping on them and admit the ones from the past were not so great either. Marilyn Monroe was an emotionally unstable, drug addicted homewrecker who slept her way through Hollywood and was infamously annoying to work with. Clark Gable was an alcoholic. Liz Taylor cheated with her best friend's husband and remarried 7 or 8 times. Errol Flynn was accused of rape. That's not even half of it.

It's fine to like them (I like a lot and adore 50s fashion and beauty myself) but dont you think people over-exaggerate how "perfect" they are? The only person I can think of who really deserves how loved they are is Audrey.

  • What kind of phone/plan should I get?

For about 4 years now I've had my Katana 2 and a phone plan with Sprint. My phone was good and lasted but when I texted it was always a pain because the keys are so slow, it's a bit outdated now, and I'd like something efficient to use with better keys. I'm really not picky and don't care about apps or anything (though if it had a camera that would be cool, though not necessary), but I'm leaning towards a Blackberry and a plan with Verizon.

Also, I am low on cash, but I'm willing to pay a little more for a good phone that will last in the long run. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated. thanks!

  • What are teens in Germany like?

I am fascinated by Germany and would like to see it someday (unlikely but here's to hoping). I find Germans very attractive, interesting people with an almost exotic culture. I'm barely out of my teens myself and love learning how life is like for kids/teens in other countries, so if any are here, what is your daily life like? How do most German kids act? What are they into?

I had 2 German exchange students at my high school, boy and girl. They were both gorgeous. The boy was very quiet and apparently a good singer. The girl was a bit quiet too and liked jazz dancing. I'm only part German but I love German culture and the people, so thanks!
