  • How do I handle this collection agency?

I am current on all my bills, and can not think of anyone else I may owe money to; however, I have recently began receiving phone calls from a collection agency.

Each agency rep that calls refuses to disclose both the name of the agency they are working for, and the name of the original creditor, until I "verify some personal information," like my full name, address, SSN (yeah, right!) phone number, etc. I tell them that I will not verify ANY information over the phone until they tell me who they are working for, who the original creditor is, and notify me in writing, by mail. They of course refuse to tell me anything.

Today, they started calling me at work. How they got my employment info and work number, I have no idea. I told them that they were calling my place of employment, that I could not accept personal calls unless they were an emergency, and that I did not want them to call my employer again.

    They called NINE times today.

The fact that they refuse to divulge any information, and that they asked for my Social Security number, says to me that it is a scam. If, by chance, they are a legit collection agency, how do I get them to a) put it in writing and contact me by mail, b) stop calling my employer, and c) stop calling MY phone?

  • What *should* brie cheese taste like?

I picked up a package of brie cheese today, thinking that I would give it a try. I had no idea what to expect as to flavor; the only thing I knew about brie was that it's very soft.

I open it up, and it smells like a mix of paste and mildew. I thought the smell was just the thin, waxy paper it was wrapped in.

I try it...and it tastes just the way it smells; like a mix of paste and mildew. After spitting it out and gagging, I couldn't get that taste out of my mouth. Even now, hours later, I can still faintly taste it.

That had to have been the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten.

Is this how brie is supposed to taste, or was mine just bad?

  • 21 even if you're married?

    Ok...Ohio law here.

You have a married couple, one is over the legal drinking age of 21, the other is not.

The legal partner buys alcohol for the home, and the underage spouse consumes it.

Can the legal-age spouse get still get into trouble with the law for furnishing alcohol to an underage person, even though that person is their spouse, and the alcohol is being consumed in the home, and not in a public place (bar, restaurant, club, etc)?

  • Would I have the right to license this photograph?

First of all, this is purely a hypothetical question.

Let's say I own, all rights included, a series of copyrighted photographs of a celebrity. I want to license the use of one of these photographs to a company for use in their advertising and marketing. Can the subject of the photo sue for illegal use of their image? OR, in the case of the subject being deceased, can the family of the subject sue?

  • What type of fish is this?

Saw this in a shop today. The shop didn't know what it was, as it had arrived as a stowaway in a shipment of something else from their supplier.

Very small and/or young fish, less than half an inch in length.

Body was translucent white with identical blotches of color on both sides of its body; light red at the head, followed by almost florescent green, then bluish-purple, and just before the tail, a white ring with a blue center. The tail was a a reddish/yellowish orange, and appeared to be like a swordtail, only reversed (the "sword" being on the top rather than the bottom).

It's a cool-looking fish, I just wish I knew what it is. My first thought was some sort of guppy, but I've never seen a guppy with those colors or color pattern, nor with the sort of reversed-sword tail that this thing has.

    Any ideas?

  • Why did I get a "terms of use violation" notice?

A week or two ago, I asked a question regarding yahoo when using Internet Explorer 8 as my browser. For some reason, if I'm using IE8 and I come to yahoo, it takes me to the yahoo mobile site, rather than the standard yahoo site. This does not happen when I visit yahoo with any other browser, such as Firefox.

My question was deleted by the Yahoo Answers admin and I recieved a notice stating that my question was in violation of their Terms of Use policy.

There was no rudeness in my question, no cursing or anything else that would obviously be a violation. All I did was ask a question, on yahoo, about yahoo.

So why was my question yanked and why was it in violation?

  • Does the father have any claim to custody?

    State of Florida.

Parents are unmarried from conception through the birth of their child.

Father is not named on the birth certificate.

Couple is no longer together, the father having moved out, leaving the child to live with the mother full time.

Does the mother automatically have full custody by default in this situation? Does the father have any legal custody rights at this point, or will those rights be granted only after he files a case in court?

  • Where do you get your answers?

Do you use Google like most people seem to do, or do you remember that YOU ARE ON YAHOO? I always thought it was funny that people would leave Yahoo, which has a very good search engine itself, to go to another site in order to find an answer to a question...on Yahoo. (I do it too)

  • In your opinion, should a child face criminal charges for this?

If an underage child (yes, I am calling 16 & 17 year olds "children!") gets busted sending nude pictures of themselves, do you think they should face criminal charges for child pornography?

I realize that the vast majority of them probably don't even realize that what they're doing is illegal, or that they could get into serious trouble. I doubt most of them would even care; it just seems like no big deal to them.

I also don't think they realize anything sent via cell phone or internet is permanent; even if delete those pictures, they're still out there somewhere. So even though they might think it's no big deal, those titty pics are very likely to end up on a kiddie porn site somewhere.

What do you think? Are criminal charges necessary? If not, that what IS an appropriate action?

  • Does anyone actually LIKE cfl bulbs in their home?

My landlord came by the other day and replaced every single light bulb with a CFL bulb; you know, those twisty fluorescent bulbs. Since he pays the electric bill, I can't really argue, but I friggin HATE those things! One, I don't like someone forcing their politically correct products on me; and two, I don't want every light in my home to be fluorescent! Fluorescent lighting sucks. It doesn't look natural, it's too harsh, and it tends to hurt my eyes (my eyes are very sensitive to changes & differences in light quality).

I work in retail and I have yet to hear a single person say they prefer these cfl bulbs. Most people seem to hate them as much as I do, they only buy them because they last so long.

    Anyone else hate them?

  • Can I get a refund and/or exchange?

If I get a mail-order bride, and she will not work, or if she breaks, can I send her back for a refund or exchange?

I plan on paying for everything with my Visa (of course!) card; does their consumer protection plan cover mail-order bride expenses?
