I'm 20 years old, and I have a little girl named Stella Rose. She's my world! I'm engaged to be married on 11/11/2011 to a wonderful, hard-working man. I'm a photographer, a stay at home mom, and a student at PSU.

  • Personal Judgement of this Picture -- USPS postal service?

I haven't received my mail in over 8 days. I am a college student (and have been waiting on textbooks to arrive) and a homeowner (thus we have bills!), so the mail is important! At first they couldn't find my packages, then they found them and said they didn't deliver them because my steps were too icy. Yesterday I told them there was no ice or snow and that I want my mail tomorrow (which is now today). Today comes and still no mail. I call and ask why, and they tell me my steps are still too covered in snow to walk up. So I make them come visit my house to explain.

They stood at the bottom of the steps acting like my steps were far too dangerous to come up to even knock on my door. They told me they think I should move my mailbox down from my house to the bottom of the stairs by the sidewalk. My packages would surely get wet in the snow and rain though, so I am against that. I simply think they are lazy.

    What do you think?

Would you DARE travel up those snow covered steps!

  • What is the 'average' debt for an associate/bachelors degree?

I am in my last semester of my associates in business through Penn State. I should be done this semester, but because I'm a mom, wife, and homeowner, I took things a little easier and took only 4 classes a semester instead of 5. Only 9 credits (3, 3-credit classes) left!

I am considering continuing onto my bachelors degree, but it's really tough living on one income and I want to start working soon...(that's a whole different conversation in itself -- to work fulltime, go to school fulltime, or do both partime).

My point, though, is that I'm currently $13,500 in debt and will add about $2,500 to that for the next semester. I SHOULD have been at about $10,000 but I did take out a few extra thousand to help me keep my head above water financially without working, although I did take a work-study position over the summer and I do ocassionally photograph weddings for extra income. My good friend graduated from PSU with $20,000 debt and a bachelors degree. This makes me feel bad since I'm pretty close to that with only an associates degree.

If you've attended college, what was/is your total debt and what degree did you get?

I know I can pay my student loan bill when the time comes, that's not an issue. I'm just feeling bad about being close to $20,000 with only an associates.

Then again, I could be one of those people who unfortunately chooses to attend one of those crappy for-profit schools like University of Phoenix, AIU, etc. and end up with $50,000 of debt and no usable or respectable degree. That always makes me feel better when I hear about those kinds of people, although I do feel bad for them.

  • Wearing a Used Wedding Dress?

I went to David's Bridal today and found the dress I want. It was the first wedding dress I ever put on, and after trying on about 10 more, I knew that I still wanted the first one. It's pretty expensive and more than I wanted to spend... but I want it.

I went online and found it used for about $200 less. I was worn once for a few hours and seems to be in perfect condition. It's also in my size (what are the chances!?). I plan on having a small wedding anyway with only about <50 guests.

My mother in law eloped and didn't have a wedding, let alone a dress (atleast I don't think so).

My mom was married three times and thus has probably worn three dresses.

Is it bad to wear a used dress? I'm kind of on a tight budget since I spent alot of money booking our honeymoon before I even went and bought a dress!

  • Question about home photography studio lighting?

Hi, I have been photographing weddings and models for five years now, but I know very little about indoor portraits. I have a backdrop stand, a white background and some bottom of the line 300w (atleast I think. I haven't used it for awhile) continuous lighting.

I would like to get better at indoor photography and have read alot of people's blogs about ways to go about it. However, I'm not sure about the specifics. I'm thinking one very large softbox would do the trick. I have a speedlite 430ex, by the way. Should I get strobe or continuous lighting? If I get strobe, can I use my speedlite, and if so... what all do I need? Are name brands really better than the latter? I would like to keep it between $200-300. Thanks for any help.

  • Color OOPS question!?

Ok say I have a box of Color Oops, and two boxes of Loreal Dream Blonde 11.

I naturally have brown hair but have been dying my hair all kinds of crazy colors since I was 12. I've never been back to my normal shade. Right now I have black hair and have had it for like... 3 years? I dye it about every 3 or 4 months.

    ANYWAY.

I want to use this color oops to attemp to get my hair back to it's natural brown. IF it goes, I may keep it that way for awhile. But I heard that when you use color oops, it leave your hair porous and suggests you dye your hair the same day. What if I use the dream blonde, which is essentially a bleach? What will happen? How light would it go? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • What happens to an extended warranty if the laptop is replaced within a year due to defects?

I've had nothing but problems with my Inspiron 1545. I've had the hard drive replaced twice, the keyboard replaced twice, and the charging wire replaced 3 times. I just had the wire replaced about 2 weeks ago because it will plug it and run, but will die if the cord becomes unplugged because it won't hold a charge. I use this laptop for school and cannot afford to send it in.

I bought an extended warranty through a 3rd party at Best Buy that begins when the 1 year warranty runs out. It runs out in May, I believe. I am going to try to fight to have this entire computer replaced by Dell, which I know is a long shot. However, if they do allow me to get a new system, what happens to my extended warranty? It hasn't even started yet and I can't image it just vanishing. I paid more for the warranty than I did for the computer itself because I wanted great protection. The warranty covers the computer even if I throw it out the window or spill something on it.

    What should I do?

    Is the warrany transferable?

If not, can I get a refund for my warranty?

    Thank you in advace!

  • PLEASE HELP! Buying a home, FHA, repairs.... HELP!?

I'm buying a house for $54,000. The appraisal was supposedly $79,000 but they "lied" and said it was less only because "the big wigs would look at the sellers weird and wonder why they sold it for so cheap." I find this a lie, because the answer is that they sold it so cheap because it was an estate left for the children and they want their money as fast as possible.

Next, for the inspection the utilities weren't turned on even after they signed the contract and they were supposed to be on within 3 days. It took two more weeks for them to finally turn them on and the inspection went through. We had to extend the contract.

Now we have FHA and must make repairs regarding paint and mold. The sellers are "too poor" to do them, so somehow now WE have to do it. That's fine, but they just told us on Friday that we have to have it done by Monday. This doesn't give us enough time to hire a professional and it's impossible for us to get it done on our own. We have only until Monday because the contract ends on April 5th and we have to close by then. The sellers said they will not extend the contract because they will have to pay a hefty estate tax/fee if it goes past that date, and thus we will lose the $2,100 we've invested in this house and the prospect of the house itself. I find this unfair since we are at this point BECAUSE of the sellers unwillingness to uphold the contract and get the utilities turned on in a timely fashion, and now since they realized there will be a fee for them, we are supposed to bust our butts and spend a ton of money to somehow magically get this done.

If we miss a few paint chips or something, FHA could still deny it and we'd lose out. Then we'd lose all that money and the sellers would reap the benefits of the new paint job and cleaned basement.

This is a nightmare. I thought the sellers were supposed to make the repairs. How long does a buyer (or seller) have to make repairs? One weekend (zero business days) to get this kind of job done is ludacris. The thought of this makes me sick. Since they broke the contract and didn't have the utilities turn on as agreed, would I have a leg to stand on in court to atleast get all of my money back?

    Thank you in advance!

  • PICTURE: Lump/bumps on gums. What is it?

Here's the picture. I tried to make it clear where the lumps were by doing that effect you see:

    http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/christas_shiz...

This is a picture of my fiance's gums by the way. He's always been a smoker, but has been trying to quit. He has, however, been supplementing with snuff. I think it's disgusting and stupid, and I smoke or anything. I'm wondering if this is naturual, if it's from smoking or if it's ...the c word.... or what it is. I'm going to try to get him a dentist appointment here soon to see what they think, but I figured I'd just see what Yahoo Answers thought...

    Thanks in advance!

  • Small Business Owners - how do you effectively communicate to potential customers?

I've been running my photography business for about 5 years now. I shoot weddings here and there, but I mostly shoot models. I use good grammar and try to explain things clearly, but I am just looking for information or pointers from other small business owners. This is for my business writing class, but this is also information that I'd actually like to hear for my own personal use.

I tend to speak to my clients as friends, rather than a potential business relationship. I often seem to take a non-formal approach and am just generally laid back.

What techniques or ..whatever.. do you use or find most productive?

  • Engaged couple with child - 1 person buys house and then we get married a year later....?

I go to PSU and am almost half way through my degree. We have been together for 3 years in March and are engaged to be married in 2011. We also have a 2 year old daughter. We have found a house we want and the loan is only in his name, as I only work here and there as a wedding photographer and do not have a steady source of income. Our dilemma is if my name should go on the deed.

Scenario 1: My name does not go on the deed right now and we wait until we get married. In the state of Pennsylvania, does just getting married automatically make me co-owner of the house? If not, how much would it cost to add it? I also read that if he owns the house, and then we get married, and something happens where we divorce - he has headway over me because he owned it before we got married. Is that true?

Scenario 2: My name goes on the house right now. I will contribute $2k for the down payment and probably get a part-time job to help pay the bills. If something happens and we break up before we get married, what happens to the house?

  • Paranormal activity between two people at the same time?

Ok, so I want only adult, non-***hole answers here. I don't talk about this stuff much and I'm not some kind of gothic 15 year old that wants attention. So here it goes.

I've experienced the paranormal my whole life and have an array of stories that I could tell, but for the past 10 years or so, I haven't really experienced much. My fiance is a definite non-believer of ghosts and things. However, after his father passing in early January, he has started to feel what I feel. The main thing that started was on Saturday night. We were awoken by three loud kicks to the bottom of our bed. It scared us both and looked around the house, but there was nothing. Creepy but forgetabble. Last night we were so scared that we didn't sleep until the sun came up. I was awake the entire night with my eyes open, listening to sounds that clearly weren't us. It sounded like something shuffling, moving, and sometimes walking. I didn't sleep a wink, but just before I decided to just roll over and go to sleep, my fiance started to talk in his sleep. He said "baaabe. baaaaabe. baaabe" as if he was trying to call me but couldn't move his mouth. My eyes were wide and I was like freaked out, then he woke up and asked me if I could hear him yelling for me, I said yes. He had been having a terrible nightmare (which is rare because he never dreams at all) where he was violently pushed the the floor, drug to the wall and held down, face down. He could barely call me, but tried (and his body was actually calling me in real life while his mind was experiencing this). He said in his dream he could hear me quivering in his dream, as if I were scared, which I was in real life.

We feel these experiences are rare and are coming from one of two possible sources. One, his father died in January and we feel he is disappointed that we've been drinking so much to alleviate the pain/stress. However, this feeling we have is scary, and not at all inviting or nice. We don't really think it's him.

Next, we have been looking to buy this house. We wanted to buy it and felt good about it until we saw some creepy things in there yesterday. First of all note that these people who lived in this house for 41 years up and left everything they owned, EVERYTHING, even their soap, clothes, pictures, everything. The man was a minister but left everything. There was attic steps that were built on beside the original attic steps, but the originals had an iron caste gate at the bottom. I went to the basement and there was an old light and wooden chair, as if it were an interrogation room, in the far back hidden reaches of the basement. I went through their old picture albums but there were no pictures of their family, friends or anything. Just cut outs of old magazines. Lastly, we saw an old guitar tuner that might be worth money and took it. We're thinking maybe that was wrong not only because it was technically stealing, but maybe if the house was haunted, we totally invited it to haunt us.

We plan to take the guitar tuner back. But other than that, what should we do? We do not want to mess with it or EVP it. How do we get it to leave us alone?

    Again, PLEASE NO JERK ANSWERS.

  • Ordered a used Tamron 17-50mm lens rated E+ on Adorama....?

A new one of these costs $400. A used one costs like $350-390. I got this one for $260. I'm really worried about it for fear it was too good to be true. Does Adorama accurately rate their used equipment? How easy is it to return if it's defective? Has anyone had any issues with Adorama or has anyone else gotten EXTREMELY good deals that turned out to be legit? Thanks for your input!

  • Tamron lens for weddings - 17-50 VS 28-75?

I need a faster lens and am looking for a 2.8. Both of these lenses offer that, but I'm not sure which range I should go for. I have a Tokina 12-24mm, so I'm thinking the 28-75 is my best choice. However, I don't want to be switching lenses very often and am not sure which is best? I also do not have 2 camera bodies nor do I wish to rent one. I am a college student and my finances are tight. Any advice? Thanks!

  • How to keep others off of my wireless internet connection?

I use linksys. I'm not sure how to explain what I'm asking. Basically I have laptop, desktop, and xbox live and a wireless router connecting them all to the internet. Sometimes it's really unbearably slow... I recently found out that my dirt ball neighbor used his ps3 internet off of my internet connection (he laughed about it and admitted it). Thus, I figure when he's on it as well is when it gets slow. Exactly how to do make it so only I can access my internet? I don't know how to set a password or I would. Thanks.

  • Wedding Lens for Canon?

I'm looking for a lens that is great in low light situations, like around f/1.8 or something. I would like some zoom, but not too much. Perhaps... like 18mm to 75mm give or take. I currently do not have an IS lens, but I'm thinking I would like one. I love Canon, but I'd be willing to go to a third party lens if the reviews were good enough. I have a handful of lenses for weddings but I am constantly swapping back and forth and wish I could combine my lenses. My budget is under $500. Any help?

  • Can I collect child support from my father? I'm 20 and live in Pennsylvania.?

My mom had me when she was 26 and my dad was 17. Yeah, gross. They were not married, obviously. My dad abandoned us/me and was never in my life until I met him at the age of 15. My mom told me she never opened a case for child support because he never held a real job and always worked under the table. This is true til this day.

Recently, he fell off of a roof while doing under the table work and got hurt. The insurance company offered him $180,000 but he declined it and is seeking more.

I met him when I was 15, saw him a few times, but didn't reconcile until I was about 18. We now talk and are on good terms. I'm in college full-time and while I'm not going to cry about it, I did have a pretty tough life, growing up on welfare and not with alot of things. Plus I didn't have a dad for all of my christmases and birthdays, which was pretty hurtful as a child.

My question is - Can I file for child support? I figure even though he does not work a real job, if he gets this settlement, maybe the courts will give me the backed child support I am owed. I could pay for my college, put a down payment on a house and start my life with a nice stepping stone. I figure although my mom didn't file, I was still entitled to it.

I'm going to call Domestic Relations at my courthouse tomorrow, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or similar situations. Thanks!

  • How to quit breastfeeng a 15 month old cold turkey?

I spent 9 months being pregnant, and I've been breast feeding for 15 months. She is now at the age where she tugs at my shirt and lifts it up, embarassing me in public. It's about time I have my body back to myself and gain a little bit more freedom!

She eats all people food, doesn't obviously drink from a bottle and does drink from a cup. Most of the time, she HATES milk. HATES it.

Today I started the cold turkey thing. It's been terrible! She's been crying, screaming, hitting, and just being miserable on and off. I gave her alternatives and she didn't want milk in a cup, so I took the lid off and slowly gave it to her that way. She drank 2.5 sippies of milk! I usually put her to bed by putting her on the breast and then putting her down while she's awake.

She went to bed without the breast and only a little bit of rocking.

How long do you think it will be until:

My breasts defalte! THEY ARE ROCK HARD AND HURT!!

She will now long give me such a hassle over breast feeding?

She completely loses interest in breastfeeding?

    My milk completely dries up?

And for anyone who's been through this, any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

  • Broke my ring finger. My engagement ring is stuck. Going to the hospital later... will they have to cut it off?

Yeah. I was playing football with my fiance. I went to catch it and it hit it dead on. I heard a pop, and it was gross. I fell to my knees from the pain but I thought it was just stoved. I waited til today to see...and it's blue/purple, really fat, very painful, unable to be bent.. I'm sure it's broke. I'm going to the hospital in a few hours to have it looked at. I don't think I'll be able to get an xray due to the ring... but what if they want to cut it off? Or will they just look at it and give me a splint? I really don't want my very expensive ring cut...especially since I doubt the jeweler will fix it for free.

    What should I do?

  • Should I, a single mom and full-time student, get a 'real' job so that I can claim HOH & get the credits?

I'm 20 years old and I'm a home maker as well as a full-time student at PSU. I occassionally photograph weddings for side money, but by the end of 2009 I think I will only have made $1,100 from that. I receive $200 a month from my fiance, who lives with his parents, but IDK if that's taxable or not. I pay for a few of my bills, but he pays for most of them. The reason we live together is because he's saving up money by living with his parents for free so that we have the money for a downpayment on a house, but that's irrelevant.

I figure I spend $300 in deductions for photography, as that's my gas money, my clothes, memory cards for the customers, etc. I do not tax my clients so I guess I'm going to have to pay like $60 when I file for that. I also know nothing about taxes or businesses, so I don't really have a business...I just do it. IDK if that's illegal or... what I'm supposed to do. I don't want to do anything illegal, so that's why I'm going to try to claim this income in 2010.

Now I'm wondering what the minimum income is in order to file taxes, in order to claim head of household, in order to claim the earned income tax credit, that child credit, etc. I almost bet that my mere $1,100 or so is not enough...so should I get a 'real' job before the end of the year to make just enough money to get a good chuck of money in April? If so, how much should I try to earn so that I make the bare minimum requirements and can get the credits?

Do they cut me a break for being a full-time student & 'single' mom? Probably not.

    Taxes are so confusing.
