I know a few people are in the beta and I've heard a few things. A this point it doesn't seem worth it to me and the continuing problems are plaguing it. What are others insights on the site? Do you think the site has been (if in beta) or will be (if waiting) worth it? Do you think it was a neat idea that won't get off the ground or live up to potential?

Just wondering if the word cliche has fallen into the very concept it represents.

15 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhere do you think Standard American English is spoken?
This question came up in a linguistics class I am taking.
Basically where do US speakers of English think is Standard American English.
There is no right or wrong answer to this, it's strictly opinion. I also need to know what area the person is from (doesn't have to be the state just general area would be fine like new england, west coast, etc).

The nastier looking the better but edible and possibly not too bad tasting.
7 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoHow do you train a dog not to mark?
A few years back my family adopted a pair of dogs (one male, one female) that originally came from the same household. While we love both and spoil them, they both have quarks that we have had trouble correcting.
One of our main problems is with the male dog marking things. Plastic bags, papers, blankets, toilet paper rolls, clothes (including recently a pair of my underwear), anything that's on the floor is fair game (plus his aim isn't always accurate resulting in power cords and furniture). We also have trouble with him marking our female dog while she is doing her business in the back yard.
He knows it's wrong. He won't do it when we're around. We've also only ever caught him once.
We're pretty sure he has some issues with dominance. Our female dog is 3 months older and sometimes bullies him. He also is one of the smallest dogs in the neighborhood.
The human society where we got him suggested we try a belly band. This resulted in 4 months of him not getting the point. He's such a laid back dog. He only plays with our female dog and only gets excited at other dogs and the mailman. Otherwise he's pretty much the plop down on the couch type of dog (which has earned him the nickname bum)
It's really getting tiring though. Any tips would be helpful.
He's a five year old Bichon Frise.
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat Exactly are the Prayers of the Catholic Rosary?
More specifically is the Fatima prayer part of the Catholic rosary or not? As I learned it the Glory Be, Fatima, and the introduction of the mystery is stated on the cord/link between the last Hail Mary and the Our Father. However, Fatima is often left off. I was wondering was Fatima taken out of the rosary, was it placed in but never caught on, is it optional, or is it technically for rosaries to all souls but is usually forgotten?
Prayer of Fatima
Call: Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell
Response: Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.

Have you ever withheld a thumbs up (or even worse given a thumbs down) from good answerers to a question you answered as well because you were afraid that it would mean the asker would choose one of those answers over yours based on the fact that they were given a thumbs up?

Disaster has hit!
Your house is on fire and you can only save one Harry Potter item before you make your escape. You won't have any money to replace the lost items for a while and your library card will be suspended for several months pending the insurance claim. Thus what one book, movie, or possibly another HP item would you chose to rescue.
