  • Sand and Water in buckets in new house?

Hi, I moved into a house on Saturday. The house is an old back to back terrace. When i went down the cellar there is three buckets full of water. At first i thought there had been a leak, but above them is floor boards with no sign of water marks. Also no heating pipes above them. When i looked closer it has sand in the bottom third of each bucket. Is there a reason for this, ie, stops damp or slugs or some other "old wives tale" I would just get ris of them if it was just water....but sand aswell?

    Any ideas..?

  • Hoover Washing Machine problem?

I have a Hoover Nextra (HNL 2126-80) lately the clothes have been coming out of the wash cold. The dial is turned to 30 or 40 degrees but they still come out cold even the dial was turned up higher to 60 on a wash. It is a single fill from the cold tap so i assume the water heats up in the machine. I have looked at the Hoover website and they sell thermostats and heating elements. Could it be one of those, any way of me testing it to see which it is (if any!) ??

  • Hoover Nextra 1200 washing machine fault?

Hi, lately the clothes have been coming out of machine cold. It uses only the cold water feed so should heat inside the machine. After reading a few posts on here it seems the thermostat is the issue. Is this easy to replace? Am i right to assume the thermostat?

  • Ford Cars... Any good?

I have posted on here as we are thinking of getting another car and we have the Ka and Fiesta near the top of our lists. The feedback we have had is to avoid Fords at all costs... Are they really that bad? The top thing on our checklist is reliability (followed closley by cost..we have a small budget of £1500)

  • Fridge Freezer fault (LG Multi Air Flow)?

I have a LG Multi Air Flow No Frost Fridge Freezer. I have had it 4 years and over the last few weeks under the bottom drawer in the freezer part ice collects. I have to break it and take it out once a week so the freezer doesnt leak. I dont know why this is. The door isnt left open, the ice cubes in the top of the freezer isnt melting, no food is de-frosting. It seems like the air is not circulating so the ice gathers at the bottom? user guide no help.

  • Can my work do this to us this quick?

Ok, i work in an office on a 40 hour a week contract. I got told yesterday the business is not going well at the moment and they are going to cut everyones hours to 34 or make someone redundant. They are talking to everyone individually and will then make a decision and want to enforce it by 1st October. Can they do it that quick? We are not in a union. Thanks

  • LCD TV wall mounting?

I have moved house and the living room is smaller than my old one so the tv (37") does not sit in the corner of the room as well. I think i will need to hang it on the wall but the only wall that i can do it on is the one with the fire place on. It is a gas fire, is it wise or even sensible to hang it above the fireplace?

  • I have a Whardale DS-A243 upscaling dvd player from Argos.?

Ok, hope i`m not being stupid...

Bought above DVD player from Argos. Upscales my normal DVD`s nicley. I presumed it would play HD DVD`s better. I have bought 2 and neither play. The screen comes up and it just says loading and the disc just whirls around.

Is it 2 faulty dvd`s or am i trying to play a HD DVD on a normal DVD player that just upscales normal DVD`s?
