Legal Marriage Definition for Same Sex Couples in the UK.?
My partner and I, both male, had a civil ceremony and marriage in Vermont, USA, on the 22nd July, 2000. We were the second couple to take advantage of that States acceptance of same sex couples to have a civil ceremony, but we were also married by a Church there.
We came to live in the UK in 2002, I am a British citizen. The Government here allowed me to bring him here as my legal partner. I had to produce all of the relevant documents and family letters of how long we had lived as a couple and other relevant proof to the British Consul in Chicago before the process of bringing him here could begin.
We finally arrived in Britain and he was given indefinite leave to remain in the UK, and this was stamped in his passport along with my name as his partner. Too bad if we wanted to visit a Muslim country, we would never get in.
The question is that he is worried that we are not legally married for the UK. I told him that if we were not, then the Government would not have given him leave to remain indefinitely. I said that if the Government just allowed partners in to England simply because one partner is British, then the country would be over-run with people trying to stay simply by saying that another person is their partner without having any legal documents regarding a civil ceremony or marriage.
He thinks we have to go and get married again. I said that is silly because everyone who goes to another country where same sex unions are accepted would have to get married again in each country they went to visit.
Could someone please clear this situation up for us. Are we legally a couple and married according to the criteria of the British Government ?
Thankyou so much for any advice that is offered.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoCorrect use of inverted commas in writing.?
I am writing up some memories and would like to know the correct use of inverted commas.
eg. "He was telling me a story, I told you", (Is this correct?)
or is it..."He was telling me a story, I told you," Using a comma or full stop or question mark within the commas, or should they always go outside..
"I wonder if you know?" is this correct or "I wonder if you know"?
I would certainly appreciate any help given to me.

1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoHelp With My Aloe Vera Plant Please?
I have an indoor Aloe Vera Plant which first started as a single plant and now there are several in the same pot. I have a problem with it. It used to be all lovely and green and now it seems to have all turned white and only the tips are green. I give it sufficient water and have given it a little baby-bio liquid plant food. I tried moving it to several different positions in the room to see if the colour would change, but it is still the same. The stems are still quite solid and not drooping at all. I am just wondering if this is normal, or is there something wrong with my plant, and can I fix it. Many thanks.
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoHow Do Men With Small Pen-ii ? ?
I have this very close friend who is a top high profile actor on TV and he is tremendously good looking, the only problem is he has a very small willy. He gets very self conscious about it all the time. I said it is nothing to worry about. Would you overlook his small willy because he is so good looking ? He has done modelling work for D&G and Armani and Tommy Heilfiger to name a few, and he is such a nice guy.
20 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoPenis Enlargement Pills?
I would like to know why all of those spurious companies that keep sending these adds for Penis Enlargement Pills and devices, always tell you that your Penis will become at least 9" long after using them. Not that I need them, but really how do those pills know how to stop working when your Willy ends up at 9", I mean what if they just kept working and you ended up with a 16" Willy. I am just hoping that guys realize that these kind of things really do not work, and anyway there is some great action packed into a little pocket rocket.
1 AnswerLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoWhat type of education are these young people receiving.?
I am totally surprised by the amount of young people on here who want all of their homework done for them. I mean I do not mind helping someone out if they are stuck, but to expect the whole lot done. The spelling on most of the questions is atrocious. I really don't know how these kids get on at school without someone there to help them. I don't know if the education system should be held responsible, or is it just a few individual kids who are having problems. Perhaps they will remember the people who helped them with their homework, when they are chief executives of some huge conglomeration.
11 AnswersHomework Help1 decade agoI had a solicitor who I think gave me bad advice?
I had this free solicitor was handling a work related injury and eventually he seemed to fob me off. I kept all of the evidence which proved beyond any doubt that the company were not only negligent but put one of the witnesses in such a state with threats of loosing his job that he backed out as a witness. Now someone has informed me there are pro-bono barristers who would love to take on this case. Do you think it is worth going through this whole business again. I mean it never went to court in the first place so there was no legal judgement or anything. When I spoke to the people at the Citizens Advice Bureau they seemed to think I had a very good case. The company was fined heavily by the Health and Safety at work people for not maintaining a healthy workplace. And also now this company are giving me Medical Retirement because I refused to resign, because I see the accident was definitely not my fault. I fell down a manhole in the night time which had no cover on it.

2 AnswersTrivia1 decade agoNasty Pictures on Cigarette Packets?
If they are going to put nasty pictures of diseases and sick people on cigarette and tobacco packets why aren't the government going to put nasty pictures on bottles of alcohol. I mean alcohol has broken up and destroyed more families than tobacco and it has been responsible for the deaths of loads of people and lots of innocent ones as well.

6 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoI needed a letter for a bank in America with my signature?
I needed a letter for a Bank in America, so the letter was typed up giving my mother power to act on my behalf. I took it to a lady who is a Judge and a JP here in England she read the letter, asked to see my passport and proof of my address. She then got me to sign the paper in front of her and she witnessed my signature. She gave her name and address at the Court where she is sitting with a phone number if she needed to be contacted. Is this letter legal and does she have the same power as a Notary Public to witness my signature or do we need a stamp on an official letter for American use?

3 AnswersYahoo Profiles1 decade agoWhy should heterosexual Civil Celebrants be taking the vows in Gay Marriages?
My partner and I were officially married in July 2000 in Vermont US by a GAY civil celebrant, who was also ordained. I want to know why the majority of these people who are going to be officials at Gay weddings are not Gay themselves. I think it is a travesty and just one more swipe at us Gay people from the government. There are enough Gay officials who could do this. Don't we have a say in who should or should not marry us. My partner is a US citizen and was brought here to the UK legally as my partner by the British Government in 2001. That means they recognised our marital status, and he is still here with me. I just think it is a cop out really which needs our input to the Minister responsible to start lobbying for our own rainbow people to be able to marry Gay people. I would not want some heterosexual taking my vows, after all would they like a Gay person to be taking theirs.
8 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoGod forgive me for the arrogance of my intellect?
Am I right in saying that many Christians in this forum are arrogant regarding their dogmatic approach to biblical teaching. It seems, looking at many answers, there are not many who are in agreement regarding the answers. All seem to use some personal interpretation of Christian scriptures. Perhaps I'm wrong. And most appear to have never studied the original texts and have little or no knowledge of proper interpretation as was relevant to the times in which it was written. Am I correct in this assumption..or is lucifer influencing me?

3 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoCleaning Old Cast Iron Frypans?
I was given a set of three cast iron frypans and they have some rust on them, not too much, mainly surface rust. I like them and want to clean them, but I'm not sure what to use. I suppose I could use a wire brush on the electric drill, but is this the only way? I know to buy these type of frypans would be expensive, and I really want to preserve them, any suggestions?
12 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoThe truth will set you free?
I am not a religious person, but I take great comfort in the fact that I will always be part of this universe iin some form or another. No matter what you do to try and anhialate me I will always belong. Even if I became a million tiny particles of dust it is still part of me. When the earth exists no more and the whole planet just disintegrates my essence will be floating off somewhere into the vast universe. Every being that ever existed on this planet is still here in one form or another. I don't need a heaven or hell. I'm part of this huge cosmos and until nothing exists anymore I will always be part of it regardless what you might believe. Thats a rather comforting thought and death holds no fear for me. Religion has locked us into some sort of myth that there is something better after this, so when your playing your harp and sitting in front of some sycophantic god who needs your worship to boost gods already inflated ego, I will be floating off as some tiny particle.
23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs there such a thing as a handsome foreskin or penis?
I hear lots of people say, "Oh he has such a handsome face", or "He has such a handsome body", but how many will say, "Oh he has such a handsome penis, and what a handsome foreskin". It's such a strange little piece of skin that seems to create such a huge amount of problems amongst men. I wonder what women think of this little extra piece of skin. Even amongst gay men I never hear anyone refer to a penis as handsome, perhaps they often speak about size, but never make reference to it being asthetically beautiful. Perhaps it's just a crazy question, but I thought I would ask anyway.
