  • Help me identify this air conditioning capacitor?

OK so the air condition unit on my house stopped working over the weekend. It is 90 degrees here and humid outside! So it was bound to happen eventually. Anyways, I took the metal plate off the side of the AC unit, and I saw that the capacitor had leaked some waxy substance all over the place. I assumed it was bad. Now keep in mind, I'm not a handy guy. I know very little about electronics and motors and stuff. So now I'm trying to find a replacement part. I'm not exactly sure what I need..... on the capacitor, it says 35+5 mfd. What does the +5 mean? Is this important when looking for a replacement part? Also, its a 370V capacitor. I see a lot online that say 440/370. Does that make a difference? Mine appears to be a run capacitor..... do I need to get another run capacitor? I see a lot of "dual run" capacitors, and I don't know what that means. Also, it seems that most capacitors that seem to fall into the same category as mine are all bigger, like a few inches bigger. Other than not fitting into the AC unit, are there any problems with this? I just dont know much about this stuff.

Any help would be appreciated. I will keep checking this and add details if I'm leaving out crucial information. Thanks so much in advance.

  • How can I tell if these coins are gold?

So I was digging through a box of old belongings last night, and I found a set of three coins that my grandma had given to me maybe 20 years ago. The coins look like brand new (the coins were each stored in a plastic case, which was then stored in a jewelry box) and are a bright shiny gold. I was wondering if there is an easy, non-destructive way to tell if it is real gold. Here's the problem... the coins are chinese. Everything on them is written in chinese and I have no way to identify them or look them up online. I'm not really interested in the coins themselves, moreso interested in the gold content :) I know I could measure the coin then calculate the density based on mass, but I don't have calipers, nor do I have something that can measure the mass or volume. Any ideas of where I can start looking into this? Or a good way to tell if it is gold for sure? Thanks.

  • Can anyone help me identify this plumbing issue?

So a couple months ago my water bill shot up. It showed that I was using about 2.5x more water. I noticed that my basement toilet was leaking, so I fixed it (or so I thought). But my bill has not gone down by very much. My house isnt very big, and I don't hear or see any other leaks. I have noticed, however, that when I turn the water on, a loud grumbling noise comes from the basement somewhere and the faucet will sputter for a few seconds until the water flows returns to normal. Often times, for a second or two when I turn on the faucet, the water pressure seems really high. I really have no idea what would cause that. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? It would help me to at least start looking around and maybe pinpointing the issue. Thanks for any answers.

  • What is a easy and tasty way to cook ribs?

I got 10 lbs (3 slabs) of pork ribs. I've never cooked ribs before so I was hoping that someone had an easy way to make delicious ribs. I have a small grill and an oven to use. If you want me to do something, like say braising, please explain how to do that. I'm really not a very good cook which is why I'm hoping there's a way I can cook them so that I don't screw it up. Thanks for any tips, recipes, or pointers! Best answer will be whichever answer I end up following :)

  • What is the problem with my desktop computer resolution?

This all started about 2 weeks ago, and I'm not sure what I did to make it do this. My computer resolution is acting funny. Normally, it works just fine. Under certain circumstances, the resolution will be very grainy. For example, when my "bubbles" screen saver comes on, the bubbles are in full resolution, but the desktop in the background will turn very grainy. As soon as I move the mouse, the resolution goes back to normal. When I play certain games, the background art or the loading screen might look very grainy, but the rest of the game will look just fine. I can watch DVDs, youtube, those all look just fine. Other programs look fine too, like skype and internet explorer.

I tried downloading new graphics card drivers, no change. I tried changing the resolution, but the same thing keeps happening. Is there a program I might have downloaded that wouldve done this? Any ideas what I can try to do to fix it? I'm not too computer savvy, so if you have any suggestions, please provide some instructions on how to do it. Or if you could direct me to a website that might have some pointers, that would be great too. Thanks.

  • What is the issue with my computer resolution? How do I fix it?

So this just started happening couple days ago, and I'm not sure what I did to cause it. But now when my "bubbles" screen saver comes on, the background image becomes very grainy. Also, there are certain games that have very poor resolution now, even though the in game settings as well as my PC settings say that I'm running full 1680x1050 resolution. But everything else, like internet explorer, skype, etc are fine. Any ideas what I can do to fix this?

  • How do I do this iPhone trick?

I was reading an article detailing some less-known iPhone tricks. One tip was this:

Feel and see when people call: Apple has added a number of accessibility features to iOS 5, specifically designed to assist those with hearing, vision, mobility and other disabilities. For example, those who are hearing impaired might opt to have the LED flash when a call comes in. If you're seeing impaired, you could set a unique vibration pattern for different people in your Contacts, so you know who's calling.

But it doesn't explain HOW to do it. I've searched settings but I cant seem to figure it out.... does anyone know? First person to help me get it wins 10 points :)

    Thanks

  • How can I deal with this situation with my gf?

This is a followup to a question I asked almost a year ago:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuvCY...

So we ended up talking and things are significantly better now. She is starting school back up in the fall and got a new job that she doesn't complain about nearly as much. But there are still a couple issues that are bothering me. One being the messiness..... she is SO messy still, even after I told her that I don't like cleaning up after her. I can feel resentment building inside of me, and I don't want this to end because she can't clean up after herself. I'll give you a few examples.... she works at a bar, and every night she will come home with a take-home cup of soda. She won't drink it all, and will leave it sitting on the table until the contents leak out all over the place. even then she wont throw it away so im left with picking up and cleaning this crap all the time. another example... she will be sitting watching TV and eating a bag of chips. then she gets up to go to bed, leaving an empty bag on the table. if i say "why dont you throw that away?" she responds with "ill do it later" and of course, later never comes and I end up doing it. i realize these are little issues.... but imagine 7 cups leaking coke all over the table. every week. imagine an empty bag of chips on the table, in bed, or on the floor every single day. Is there something I can do to get her to realize that she NEEDS to start picking up after herself? I want to be her boyfriend, not her mother who cleans up after her.

another issue ive been having (and this has less to do with her) is about marriage. she wants to get married, and thats fine. i actually went ring shopping a few months ago, only to look. i worked with the sales person and put together a really nice ring that i thought she would like. well im not sure if she found out that i was there, but recently she has began dropping all sorts of "hints" about the type of ring that she likes. and its just kind of turning me off from the idea. i understand that the girl should like the ring that shes going to wear on her finger for the rest of her life, but if i say "oh i like her ring" (referring to one of her friends for example) she will be like "no, its not very cute. i want this and this and this for my ring". and im just thinking to myself.... well this isnt very romantic. i dunno.... is this normal? just that fact that she keeps bringing it up is turning me off of the whole proposal process. i almost just wanna give her my credit card and tell her "go pick out your own ring and we'll consider ourselves engaged". but of course i dont want things to go down like that.

any insight or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Why does my dog eat so much grass?

He will go outside to do his business, then just start eating grass. Often times, he will eat a bunch of it, then just vomit it up later. It doesn't seem to make him sick or anything, but it's annoying for me since I'm constantly cleaning up his vomit simply because he is too stupid to know otherwise. Is there anything I can do to get him to stop this annoying habit? I will always yell "NO" at him if I catch him doing it. But I usually have to say it more than once, and often times he is very sneaky about it. Thanks.

  • How much money should I give as a graduation gift?

My sister is graduating from Notre Dame. I was wanting to give her some cash.... how much is a good amount these days? I have not given a grad present in awhile so I'm not sure what the "norm" is these days. I was thinking 200$. Do you think that is enough?

  • What do I look for when buying new headphones?

I would like to get a new pair of headphones. Any suggestions would be great! But any tips would be good too. My current criteria:

    1) over the ear. i dont want earbuds or the kind that sit on your ear. I'll be using these for the computer, as well as with my ipod and iphone.

    2) budget of 50-200$. What makes a nice pair of headphones more expensive? like the differences between a 50$ set and 200$ set.

    3) noise cancellation is nice, but not totally needed if i cant get it within the pricerange.

So as I was shopping, I noticed lots of people buying amps for the headphones..... do they all need this? or is it just an additional option? what does it do? I dont need a microphone but if it has one, thats cool as long as i can use it on both my computer and iphone. I just want to get a nice, simple pair of headphones with good quality sound and is comfortable to wear for long periods. I also would rather not have to deal with EQ. some reviews were saying that some headphones have naturally high bass or treble etc and that EQing it makes it ok. but since I will be switching devices fairly often, i dont want to have to redo the EQ everytime.

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated! Thanks

  • Is it possible to salvage an external hard drive?

I had an external hard drive that is about 5 years old now. Well the power adapter got destroyed, so I ended up having to buy a new one. I went to radio shack and they gave me what they thought was a working adapter. But I took it home and it doesn't seem to be working. My question is....

    1) Did I have the right kind of adapter? On the back of the flash drive it says "2A" but the adapter they gave me said 500 mA. Would this prevent it from working?

    2) If the flash drive is indeed finished, is there any way to salvage what is on there?

    Thanks!

  • How much, if any, will landscaping work increase the value of my property?

I want to get some landscaping work done around my house. Maybe $3-4k worth. Does landscaping generally have a decent return on housing value? I remember reading something about how kitchen renovations give you the biggest bang for your buck, but I couldn't find anything about general landscaping. I'm going to have some new plants and bushes put in, re-brick the patio, and have all the rocks replaced with mulch. I'm new to owning a home, so I'm just looking for some insight. Thanks.

  • How do I go about buying and selling a car on Craigslist?

OK I have a few questions here. Even if you can't answer them, I'm still looking for general car buying/selling tips online.

Here's my situation: I'm buying a new car from the dealer. I would like to sell my current one myself, as I don't think the dealer is giving me a good trade-in offer. So if I were to post my car on CL (let's say at $12,000), how do we do the money transfer for a transaction of this size? Is cash the best way to do it? Or is there a better option? Obviously I dont want to deal with a check. Also, if someone wants to test drive it, what do I do? Do I ride with them while they do it? I don't want them to hit something and then decide not to buy it without telling me what happened.

Those are my main questions. If anyone can give me tips or stories from personal experience, I would greatly appreciate it. I have only ever dealt with dealerships previously, and I would like to see how feasable it is to sell it myself. In your opinion, is it worth the extra work of selling it yourself to get more money than what the dealership would offer?

    Thanks again.

  • Any suggestions for a womens 2-piece swim suit?

I'm getting it for my gf. Here's the thing: she wants a 2 piece. She is about a size 14, but her breasts are huge, like 38E. Are there any other full-figured ladies out there who have any good suggestions for a modest 2 piece swim suit?

  • What should I bring on a cruise?

The GF and I are taking a cruise next month and we are going to spend some time shopping this weekend. What are some things we need to think about bringing? I'm talking about stuff besides the obvious, like clothes and bathroom supplies. Like, should I bring my own beach towel? Or do the boats generally supply those?

If you have any other ideas of general misc stuff, like sunblock or underwater camera, let me know. Just trying to plan ahead. Thanks!

  • Where can I find out when a company releases earnings reports?

I'm wondering if there is a list or something where I can see the schedule for companies to publicly report their quarterly earnings and forecasts. I am asking this question right? I'm still fairly new to this whole investing thing.

  • Help this ignorant fool pick an engagement ring?

Hello. I've decided I'm going to propose to my girl. I've done some research on rings, and even posted a question here about how to go about this. But yesterday was my first trip to the store. I was only looking, but I felt some pressure to buy, which I was not planning on doing.

So I guess I was wondering..... what kind of pricing should I be looking at for diamonds? I have about 5k$ to spend on the diamond (not including the band). I'd like something from 3/4-1 carat in weight, and something in the near-colorless range. I know there is a LOT that determines the price of a diamond, but when I was looking in the store, there could be 2k$ difference in gems that, to me, look almost identical. Also, there seems to be a lot of debate about white gold vs platinum. Ignoring price, which do you prefer?

On a different note, what is the best way to go about picking out a ring when I want this to be a total surprise? It seems like ALL my friends who have gotten married, they picked out the engagement ring together. Which seems dumb to me, because I want this proposal to be a surprise. So how can I pick out a ring she would like? Or, is there an option to get a "placeholder" ring, and then after I propose we can go pick out the ring together? Is this common to do?

Thanks for the responses! I'm pretty naive, and don't really have anybody to ask about how this works and I feel kind of overwhelmed. Thanks again

  • Where is a good, fun place to quest in Skyrim?

I've completed probably around 90% of the content in Winterhold, Markarth, and Whiterun. I'm trying to decide where I want to travel to next. Any good sugestions? I've read of a soul gem that can be used multiple times.... where can I find that? I'd just like to find a fun town to explore that has some interesting and engaging quest lines.
