7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agofixing the grade in my back yard?
My wife and I recently bought a house that sits on a mild hill. Our neighbors yard behind us slopes into our back yard which slopes to our house. The back yard is 5000sqft and its in an old neighbor hood with close houses. There is no way to get large equipment into the back yard. We have no basement(its a cinder block house with stucco on the ourside) the slope hasn't caused any damage to the foundation with flood anything. This year though we have gotten an enormous amount of water(unusual for the area) and it caused a bit of flooding into our sun room(which came in through the gap in the door). No real damage though, just an annoyance. Would it be worth it to rescape the yard so the water drains around the house or would that be to costly? We are going to rebuild the patio (beause it old and crappy) and though it might be easier to just build in a drainage system around the patio and against the house that takes water to the street. For the most part the yard is smooth(one exception being a rabbits den) and there are no trees or shrubs in the yard(yet).
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape8 years agoNew mammal discovered misinformation?
Every article about this I have read has stated that (either) its the first discovery of a mammal in 35 years, first carnivore mammal in 35 years or that mammal discoveries are extremely rare. This is completely stupid. Mammals are discovered all the time. Just for ex. Salanoia durrelli was discovered just 3 years ago and got nearly no attention(carnivore mammal). There has been lots of monkeys and Lemurs discovered in the past 10 years, The Blossom Bat, the Tursiops Australis(a new dolphin). There are so many more. Why has this Olinguito gotten so much attention and why is the media so stupid they can't do a simple search on mammal discoveries of the past decade?
1 AnswerZoology8 years agoinstall ceilling elextrical box?
I have a flat roof house with no access above the ceiling. The previous owners had put in a ceiling light above the sink and yesterday we add a light in the kitchen and the only way to access it for wiring was to use that hole combined with the new hole made for the new light. It was a pain but we got it done. My question now is with a hole only large enough to get half my arm through what kind of box do I use to resecure a new fixture in the old spot above the sink. They had it nailed to a 2x4(which is actually 2x4 because its super old so the new boxes that hang on them dont fit). I could probably get one of the expanding arms that secure to boxes in but I don't think the box would sit right.

10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agomoving a breaker panel?
I have a newly upgraded breaker panel in a house we just bought but we want to make some changes to the utility room that it is in.
We want to use the corner that the panel sits in for a shower so we need to move it about 2-3' along the same wall. Are we going to need to move the outside meter for this or just extend the wiring? The actual moving of the box wouldn't be a problem, its just codes and regulations that I am unaware of for this.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoLinux cursor problems?
I was coding today for class in gedit and noticed at some point that the cursor was no longer adding characters and spaces in when I was editing a line, but instead deleting/replacing what ever I was typing.
So for example say the line said "whatever" , and I went to add a space in the word it would look like this "what ver" instead of doing this "what ever". Or if I mispelled a word like this "Tomorow" and went to fix it, I would get this "Tomorrw" because the cursor is not adding the "r" in it is replacing the "o" and I would then have to write out the "ow" to correct the spelling.
I have a box cursor rather than a line. How do I change it back?
3 AnswersOther - Computers9 years agoAny Advice with Flat Roof homes?
My wife and I just put an offer down on a flat roof home. It was built in 1953 originally with the flat roof and since then has had only 1 leak which was 2 and half years ago. They roof was REPLACED and the water damaged fixed. It is still under warranty from the contractor until March of 2013. It is also a Masonry Stucco home(no EIFS). It has no visible water damage anywhere. The home inspection is in the morning though and I am wondering what are some things I should be thinking about. I have already asked them to check for moisture because of the stucco (but I am not to concerned about that since its not EIFS). Just in general about the homes roof. I know they can have problems and leak, but in 60 years to have only 1 damaged area seems to be pretty good. Right?
Thanks in Advance.

1 AnswerProgramming & Design9 years agochristians, have you ever thought....?
Assuming that you believe god is in control of everything and everything that happens is his ordained plan. Have you ever thought that Obama being president and beating out ultra conservatives(and should he win again and do the same), that you are fighting a game against gods plan and that, clearly, the churches idea of what christians should do is not in tune with what god wants done? If the people who continue to be making decisions that christians dont like, but continue to a major driving force in this country, when are you going to reflect on yourself and say "huh, maybe Im wrong here and God really doesnt want all these things that the churches are saying".
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoHas anyone ever paid attention to John 2:1-10?
this is also one of my favorite stories in the bible. There are others like this too but few seem to recognize it.
John 2:1-10
verse 3 "And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine."(they ran out)
Verse 4 "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come."
Jesus looks at his mother and says What does this have to do with me, its not my problem they ran out. And without even giving him a thought or response(clearly his tone doesn't deserve one), she turns to the servants and says
verse 5 "Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it."
The rest of the story is Jesus making wine. So on one hand we have Jesus, God Incarnate and on the other hand Mom.
Who wins, Mom.
Great.

1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans9 years agoAfrican American, Blacks, I dont get it; please help(anyone can answer)?
This was in an article on yahoo recently about Paltrow. "If you are not African American there is no instance for using the word(N-Bomb) that is not going to be taken offensively. "
Is it just me or is this the dumbest thing I have heard all year. For 1 big reason. VERY few blacks are actually African American. Nat Geo traced back family history Genetically and alot of white people had ancestry in Africa sooner than blacks. If blacks find it acceptable for other blacks to use it, they can't really get upset when others do to. Either no one does, or everyone can. It isn't even used today(normally) they way it was during slavery. Thats not to say it should be used, at all, its just really annoying. Sometimes I think Black Americans are more whiny over persecution than Christians.
My other point is this. Why must we call Blacks "African Americans"? This isn't even true(most times). Alot of Blacks these days have a longer ancestry IN America, than I do(as a white american). Yet no one calls me German American, Or Irish American, or Polish American. My Grandfather Immigrated here just before the Depression. And my other side immigrated here after slavery ended and married a Native American. In any case, very few blacks are African Americans, and not all African Americans are black. If Richard Dawkins got American Citizenship, he would ACTUALLY be an African American and is white as could be. Could we stop calling all blacks African American? In my opinion, it furthers segregation.
When you walk through elementary schools today, you see pictures of American Heroes(white) and African American Heroes(black). WHY? MLK is not African American, He is just an American. Shouldn't we just call him an American Hero? This is how I will raise my children. Unless the individual is actually from Africa, they will not be African American. I wont be explaining MLK as a Black American, because he was just ******* American.
I feel like I am taking crazy pills here. Does anyone else see my point with this?
5 AnswersOther - Society & Culture9 years agoChristians, how do you feel this reflects on you(in general)?

And how do people not see the similarities? Move the timeline back 100(even 50 in some places) years, replace homo with *****r and we have the exact same argument. Biblical and social. Personally I don't see how it is just a matter of time before these people die and no one cares anymore. History will forever make them look evil.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWhy do Christians hate homosexuality so much?
Most of what christians use for their beliefs on homosexuality comes out of the old testament. They don't realize the few examples don't really relate to homosexuality. Only a couple(in Leviticus) can be used to suggest gay men exclusively in certain situations, and can be inferred to mean only certain familial relations. Lesbianism is never mentioned, and the law is meant to be used for the Jews alone. It is never meant to be used for non-israelites. All this assumes that the Law should still be used today by christians. Except, in Galatians, Paul condemns the Messianic Jews for forcing the gentiles to undergo circumcision. He tells them, upholding any of the old laws for the purpose of upholding the law, rejects jesus. But upholding the law, for the purpose of jewish tradition and for no other reason is ok. But Non-Jews should not continue in the tradition. They are saved by Faith alone. Wouldn't this tell us(or christians), that those of you who tout leviticus against homosexuals, are implicitly rejecting Jesus, as paul describes, and must began upholding ALL old Testament laws. Why are they not protesting outside red lobster, instead of having sunday lunch there?

1 AnswerVideo & Online Games9 years agoTwo way street? Make sense?
How come christians get pissed when the government tells them what is going to be in their insurance policies and proclaim religious liberty violations? Shouldn't we be screaming polictal violations all the time to christians. Why do they refuse to let government into their lives when it is trying to help but then shove their own religious belief in to the government? It seems someone is missing the two way street here. The separation of church and state goes both way. If the government can't regulate what will be AVAILABLE(not forcing anyone to take anything) in insurance, then every religous person who ever says "I'm making this legislation because of my faith" or "god wants me to" should be removed from office. If you want government out of your religion, I want your religions out of my government.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agohow do I open up the game files of a PS1 disc and look at the programming code?
I know this can be done, I just can't figure it out. I can get all the files but I have never seen any of their extensions before and after searching what they are I have no idea how to go about this. I figured there would be a program built already that would handle everything for this very purpose. Do I need to download all the individual programs associated with each particular file? Extensions are like LZS, BSX, MIM, MNU, etc.
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games9 years agoHouse broken dog taking Cipro is pooping inside?
My house trained dog has recently started pooping at night in the house. He will go out for about 30 min at night and then poop before morning. Something he doesn't do normally. Today he was outside for an hour in the morning and then pooped a tiny bit, before I came home at noon for lunch. Is this a cause of the Cipro he is taking for an ear infection? It just started a week ago and the vet said loose stool is a side effect(which he has), but why would he start pooping inside if it isnt a cause of the cipro. Its really irritating that we have been making sure he gets more time outside and still poops inside. How can I get him to quit doing it?
2 AnswersDogs10 years agoWhat to do about water bill problems for rentals?
I live in a quadplex townhouse unit. Since my wife and I moved in 6 months ago we have seen our water bill steadily increase every month despite our habits remaining the same. We don't water the yard, take 1 shower a day, do 1 load of laundry a week(NEW efficient $2000 washer and dryer).
When we first moved in our bill was about $32 dollars, this past month it was $88 and they said we used 16,000 gallons. How can 2 people use that much water a month when we are not home most of the day. Nothing is leaking or running. We also found out that it is not just us. The other neighbors in the building are also experiencing this steady increase since January. A single Neighbor was told he used 17,000 gallons this past month and a neighbor who just moved in was told she used 12,000 gallons in 2 weeks. Our water meters are electronic so there is a problem with the meters or is a there a break somewhere that doesn't effect the houses but screws with the meters. So far the company that owns the property doesn't seem to care and the Utilities company(city owned) wants to charge us to come and look at our interior pipes for leaks and not the surrounding infrastructure.
Any suggestions?
