    Gear train problem. Find Torque?

    A compound gear train as shown in the following figure, Gear 1 has 24 teeth and Gear 2 has 70 teeth of diametral pitch of 4. Gear 3 has 30 teeth and Gear 4 has 50 teeth of diametral pitch of 3.

    (b)Find the torque at Shaft c if the input horsepower at Shaft a is 50? Efficiency of each pair of gears is 98 percent.

  • Physics question tension on a rope?

    You have a rope going through 2 anchors that are secured to a wall. You apply force on each end of the rope (doesn't matter the angle which you pull). Will the rope ever be horizontal between the two anchors? See pic below for illustration..

  • physics problem truss forces?

    Determine the magnitude of the force in each member of the truss shown in the figure below. A little tricky where to begin. Obviously start with point B and I get F-Fbc cos 30 = 0

    That would give you Fbc but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use cos 30 or cos 90? Any help please? Where do I go from here?

    A small hoist can raise 100kg of bricks to the top of a construction project 30m above the street in half a minute. Determine the power provided.

    I'm a little confused how to start this problem but here is what I got so far. Did I go about this right at all?

    t = 30s, m = 100kg, a = 9.81

    I used formula V(final)*2 = V(initial)*2 - 2(g)y

    V(final) = 24.26 m/s

    a = {V(f) - V(i)} / t = 0.8086 s

    F=ma = 100(0.8086) = 80.8N

    P=W/t so is it {80.8(30)} / 30 = 80.8 W ??

    (a) how much work is done on the car?

    (b) find the magnitude of the average force on the car

    Do you use the 1/2 mv*2 formula and subtract to find work? I'm beginning this chapter in physics and don't understand this problem fully.
