  • Wedding Registry question?

    Hey there!

My fiance and I are in the process of registering for wedding gifts (I know some people think they are tacky, but we have guests who have already asked where we are registered!) We have lived together for two years, so we pretty much have most of the stuff we need. Some of it is a little cheap (think $1 Walmart mixing bowls) so we will be registering for "upgrades" on some of our "college" things.

I was looking at Target and found a bedroom set that we really love. The pieces range from $89 to $199. What do you think of furniture on a registry? The way I figure is that a group of people from work or something may want to go in together on a gift and bedroom furniture is the one thing that we really need. Do you think it's tacky to put it on a registry?

  • Does the house itself matter?

    Hi there,

My fiance and I are looking to build a house. His parents have 50 acres of land. They are willing to give us 10 acres to build on in our name. The bank needs to do an appraisal on the land before they can divide it out, due to the fact that there is a mortgage on the land. My future in laws recently ripped up the floors in their house to put down new hardwood and tore apart their kitchen as they are redoing that as well. My question is: when they come to do the appraisal of the land will they look at the condition of the house to get an accurate number? Structurally, it's great. If they do look at the house, how much will the floors and kitchen affect the total outcome?

    Sorry if this is confusing!

  • Maple Syrup or Sunflower seed wedding favors?

I am having a fall wedding (Oct. 8) and can't decide on what to do for favors.

We live in Vermont, so my first thought was to do Vermont maple syrup as a favor. I was thinking 4 oz. Ball canning jars would be a good size, and I could print up labels for them.

My other thought was to do sunflower seeds packets (with labels that I print) and put the packets inside little clay flower pots. BTW, the only flower we are using in the wedding is the sunflower.

Which idea do you think is best? If I do the maple syrup, do you think that jar is a good size? Should I go bigger, smaller, or use a different container?

    Thanks everyone for your answers!

  • Guests bringing guests?

My fiance and I are getting married in a couple years, but are starting to narrow down a guest list already. The place we are looking to use for our venue has different booking options based on the number of guests, so we are trying to get a rough estimate now so we can book a final date.

What are your thoughts on single guests bringing guests? My thought is that everyone should be allowed a guest, but other people I have talked to think only people that are in a solid, long term relationship should bring a significant other. I would hate it if I were single and not allowed a date. Most of the people coming know other people who will be there, so if they didn't have a date, they wouldn't be alone with no one to mingle with.

What did you do? If you haven't faced this yet, what would you do? Thanks for your input. :)

  • Is this enough time for the wedding and reception?

    Hi there!

I am recently engaged and my fiance and I are looking at places for the wedding/reception. We like the idea of a wedding cruise on the lake. The cruise would start at 5:30 and end at 9:30. Is four hours a reasonable time for the vows and the reception (full plated dinner)?

  • Engagement question. How would you feel?

My older brother just got engaged to his girlfriend back in October. They are getting married in June of 2010.

My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married for some time now (before my brother got engaged). We (my boyfriend and I) have been together for almost two years, have lived together for one.

My boyfriend has been hinting at proposing to me sometime this summer. (We have already looked at rings). What I'm wondering is, would be be rude to my brother and his fiance if we got engaged so soon after they did? We want to get married in the Fall (we live in New England so that is the most beautiful time of the year) but we wouldn't get married until 2011 so as not to have our wedding just months after theirs.

We don't want to wait until they are married to get engaged and start planning. Would you be upset if your sibling got engaged within a year of your engagement?

  • Where can I get a baby potbellied pig in North or South Carolina, or in Virginia?

I am moving to rural Vermont in three weeks and am looking for a baby potbellied pig while I am still in North Carolina. The reason: a pig up north costs a lot more than a pig down south. I am willing to travel to Virginia or South Carolina (or any place within a 3 hour driving range). I am specifically looking for a baby pig. Does anyone know of any breeders or where I can find a list of breeders for this area? Thank you in advance!

  • My 7 month old Red Eared Slider turtle has algae growing in her tank. What is a safe way to get rid of it?

She has never had this problem before, but we recently put fish in for her to eat. She ate a couple but then got stressed out so we removed them. If we get an algae eater, she will eventually eat it and I am afraid it will stress her out until she is big enough to eat it (she is only the size of a half dollar). There are algae pellets that I can get for the water but I don't know if they are safe for turtles. Can anyone help?
