What will be the degrees of freedom for 4D system?
We all know that for a rigid body the number of degrees of freedom in our usual 3D system is 6. Three degrees of freedom for translation and three for rotation.
If we imagine a four dimensional system then hypothetically how many degrees of freedom will there be for a RIGID body?
Please try to describe your answer.
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoHow to find constant of motion from hamiltonian?
Given that for a one dimensional system, H(hamiltonian)=(p^2/2)-{1/(2q^2)}.

1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoWhat is the change in entropy here?
1kg of water at 273K is mixed with 1kg of water at 373K and they come to equilibrium at 323K. What is the change in entropy of the system? And how? (heat capacity of water = 4.186 J/kg-K)
a) dS= 704 J/K
b) dS= 102 J/K
c) dS= 602 J/K
d) dS= 1306 J/K
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoWhat is the speed of light inside a moving glass slab?
I know that according to theory of relativity the speed of light is always c.
But inside a slab it is c/n according to snell's law, right? Now let's say that this glass slab is moving.
But you are standing outside and what is the speed of light in your frame of reference?
It's still 'c'? if yes, then how? Because speed of light in glass slab is c/n, not 'c'.
7 AnswersPhysics9 years agoCan you help me with optics question?
A beam of light moves in a slab of glass of refractive index n in the positive x direction. The slab itself also moving in the positive x direction with a speed v in the laboratory frame. What is the speed of the beam of light as measured in the laboratory frame?
a) c
b) (c^2.n+cv)/(c+nv)
c) c(1-1/n)
d) (c^2+vcn)/(cn+v)
2 AnswersPhysics9 years agoCan you answer this question on dielectrics?
Consider a spherical cavity in an infinite, homogeneous and isotropic dielectric material of permittivity epsilon. When placed in an external electric field E, the electric field inside the cavity is
a) 3.epsilon.E/(2.epsilon+epsilon0)
b) (2.epsilon+epsilon0)E/3.epsilon
c) -epsilon.E
d) E/epsilon
Epsilon0 means epsilon in free space
Please derive the answer for me.
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoWhat is the effect of liquid on a spring-mass system which is immersed in it?
a) The motion is simple harmonic but with frequency which is lower compared to when it is in air.
b) The motion is always damped harmonic type.
c) The motion is always overdamped.
d) The motion is either of the damped harmonic type, or it is overdamped, depending on the liquid.
Only one option is correct
3 AnswersPhysics9 years agoHow to solve the following moment of inertia problem?
Three identical rings of radius a are placed on the xy plane so that each ring touches the other two tangentially. Each ring, which may be considered to be infinitesimally thin, has mass M. The centres of the three rings are equidistant from z axis- this common distance being 2a/root3. What is the moment of inertia of this system about z axis?

3 AnswersMobile Phones & Plans9 years agoElectricity and Magnetism problem?
A small magnetic dipole is kept at the origin in the x-y plane. One wire L1 is located at z= -a in the x-z plane with a current I flowing in the positive x direction. Another wire L2 is at z= +a in y-z plane with the same current I as in L1, flowing in the positive y direction. The angle ϕ made by the magnetic dipole with respect to the positive x-axis is .......... .
I am confused between 225 or 45 degree. I need to know which one of these two answers is correct and why.
