How does the Christian God give me free will if he threatens me with hell for disobeying him?
If I were to approach someone and told them to do something or I would torture them, am I giving that person free will or am I coercing them to do what I say? I'm struggling with the idea that God gives us free will, yet says that we will suffer in agony forever if we do not do as he says.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoShould Justin Bieber change the lyrics of his song to "Baby baby baby oooh. I'm hoping that you're not mine."?
Answer this question with the best rewording of a song of his to suit the occasion and you win best answer. If you use google say it! (I don't care either way)
2 AnswersLyrics10 years agoShould I tell her that I'm a virgin?
I met a great girl, we really hit it off and we plan on spending a lot of time together when she starts school near me. By all indications it is highly likely at this point that the two of us will be intimate and most likely have sex (for my first time). When asked how many women I slept with, I was too embarrassed to say 0 and I went with 3. I'm 23 years old and I'm afraid that it may put her off if she finds out I'm a virgin. I'm worried that she might think there's something wrong with me or that I will be too much of a clinger.
So what do you think? If you're a woman, how do you think you would respond to being told this? Would it make you have second thoughts? Would you feel betrayed or disappointed if you were later told that you had unknowingly taken someone's virginity?
At this point I feel that it may be best if I share this later (after all, I don't like the risk of being a 24 year old virgin!)
3 AnswersSingles & Dating10 years agoDoes feminism (in its current form) truly help in erasing gender inequality?
What I'm saying here will likely offend some people, be sure to read this text before you comment! I have a lot to cover, but ONLY ANSWER IF YOU HAVE READ IT ALL! I am not a chauvinist pig or asshole, I genuinely love the other half of the human race, I just question whether the current paradigm of feminism thought is actually working.
My experience with feminism is essentially a study in how terribly men treat women now as well as how utterly, utterly terrible men have been in the past. Granted, men have treated women poorly, but shouldn't modern feminism celebrate our differences and seek gender reconciliation rather than simply placing blame on men for past misdeeds and continuing the screams of "oppression," "chauvinists!" etc.
Granted feminism has come a long way, but I am still baffled by the persistent insistence of things like a "wage gap." As an economist, I have learned that there are many, many biological reasons for women to earn less, such as pregnancy, a desire to work less hours and closer to home (which are very valid reasons grounded in a powerful child nurturing instinct) and many many other reasons.
Money isn't everything, and I think women often have it right when they choose family over career (at the cost of less money!). In that regard, men are indeed often foolish! It baffles me that feminists entirely ignore things like this and insist that women earn something to the effect of $0.75 for every dollar a man earns. If that were really true, why would any businessmen ever hire men? If I could get the exact same work for 3/4 the price, I would be insane not to hire only women, this would naturally balance out wages over time.
Before I go on any longer, more food for thought. If we pretend gender differences don't exist and that we are the exact same (apart from anatomy of course), this is not progressive thinking. Men and women are very different!!! Women tend to be more eloquent, better nurturers, more in touch with their emotions, better listeners, and have many other incredible traits. They also tend to study Liberal Arts related subjects. As a recent university grad, the numbers don't lie!
Men tend to be more blunt, more focused on combat oriented or aggressive sports, highly competitive, and also tend to show more interest ON AVERAGE than women do in things like engineering, computer science, and other math/science intensive fields.
We are different, but that's good. In closing, feminists, stop portraying the history of the world as a struggle of oppressed women trying to overcome chauvinistic, asshole pigs! Us men hate being treated as though we are ignorant, rude, thoughtless, etc. It is hard being a man too! Thanks for your consideration of this important topic! Much love.
9 AnswersGender Studies1 decade agoWhat would people from the early 1900's think about modern music? What about the mid 1900's?
I know this is a more speculative question, but if presented with modern music such as heavy metal, rap, hip-hop, electronic songs and the various other recent musical genres, what kind of reaction would you expect?
6 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWhat is an example of a creepy song to send to a girl?
I am not actually planning on doing this, but I was wondering what could be some of the worst possible songs to send to a girlfriend? I was joking with my buddy that he could mess up something as simple as sending a good song to his girlfriend.
Example songs are "Every Step You Take" by The Police and "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" by Deathcab for Cutie (for an ex)
7 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoWhy aren't the paparazzi considered stalkers?
If a man follows a woman around taking secret pictures of her all day, he is called a stalker and is often arrested and given a restraining order. If the woman is famous, he is called a paparazzo and he often makes a lucrative living. Why is this?

Hi again everyone, with your help last time I was able to dissuade my brother from naming his soon to be born son Tid.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At9Nm...
It seems though that him and his wife have a bizarre desire to name their children strange things (as do my other sisters). They are now firmly intent on naming the boy Saxophone as in Saxophone Stevens. I've almost given up on trying to dissuade him from using one of the odd names, as he says his next child will be named Seven if it is a girl a Five if it is a boy.
I know this sounds ridiculous and that I'm joking, but trust me, for the kid's sake I wish I was.
3 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoWhat do you think of this name?
My brother has expressed a lot of frustration with my parents because of his first and middle names. His first and middle name are Kyle Taylor. He says that the names they gave him are too girly, especially his middle name, Taylor (keep in mind he was born almost 25 years ago). What does everyone think?

I'm in a speech class, and it's really embarrassing for me because I pass gas very loudly and it is especially fragrant when I am nervous. We have speeches all of the time and I get mocked quite a bit by my classmates, is there anything I can do?
1 AnswerOther - Health1 decade agoTo those who believe a woman shouldn't be a priest or pastor...?
If it is perfectly allowed and acceptable for a woman to be a Supreme Court Justice, Senator, Member of Parliament, CEO, President, etc. why is it unacceptable for a woman to be a spiritual leader? Does God believe women are incompetent or do not understand the bible?
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoTo Christians: are you morally superior solely on the basis of your faith in Christ?
Do you (as a Christian) wish to state for the record that your faith renders you morally superior to atheists? If so, how can you claim to be non-judgmental as God commands you to be. If not, how can you justify the fact that Christians go to heaven and atheists hell?
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWho is a more moral person...?
An atheist who is moral and does good things for others simply because they choose to and they feel that it is the right thing to do...
...or a theist who does good things in large part because they fear God and hope that they will be rewarded in the afterlife.
In other words, does the fact that a theist is on their best behavior because they feel like they are being watched all the time make their positive actions less meaningful (i.e. they are not good for the sake of being good?)
