I study Christian apologetics and (to a lesser extent) philosophy on my own at home. I have a BS in biology, minors in Chemistry and English and an AD in Nursing. I am mainly interested in people's attitudes toward God and religion.

  • Why was this question deleted?

This fellow was talking about his really wonderful day...the things he enjoyed, his various activities...and then asked how knowing Jesus would make any difference to that day. I had typed out my response to him (which I felt was kind and informative) and then when I submitted it, I was informed that it had been deleted. What guidelines on Y!A were violated?

  • How do I get my cat to stop leaving animal parts from her kills on my doorstep?

I wish she wouldn't kill anything (mostly rabbits and voles), but I know it's her instinct. But her "leavings" are just nasty, so I'd like to discourage this behavior. Any suggestions?

  • Is this a real pet rescue service or just a troll?

Personally, I think it's a slick deal targeting gullible people. The fee of $135 is non-refundable. . Here's the link: eternal-earthbound-pets.com

  • If you are listening to "Renewing Your Mind", what do you think of "Silencing the Devil"?

I listen to this radio broadcast from Ligonier Ministries, and I'm really enjoying this series featuring Dr. John Gerstner who is debating Dr. Sproul (who is taking the "devil's advocate" position) with regard to the existence of God, the origin of the universe, etc. Do you think that the arguments being presented are cogent? I think there are 3 more broadcasts in this series, Wed-Fri. If you log on to Ligonier Ministries, you can find out if there is a radio station that carries RYM in your area. Anyway, just interested in any feedback from anyone who might be listening to this. Really looking forward to some information that doesn't concern 5/21/11.

  • Why does R&S (or YA in general) allow pornographic avatars?

I wondered if anyone else noticed this until I saw the query from Insulin Cat7. I can tolerate the scantily clad figures, but the butt cheeks with the thong is just over the edge. Even Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins wear clothes when they debate Christians. I know this is just an attempt to provoke us, but I think YA should have guidelines for avatars as well as questions/comments with regard to content.

  • Which of the films depicting Jesus' life and ministry do you prefer and why?

My favorite is "The Miracle Maker" - which is a stop-motion animation version. I like it because all the characters look middle eastern, but my main reason for preferring it is that I like the way Jesus appears and reacts to the other people in the movie. He shows his human side more in this version than in any other I have seen. He laughs at the disciples' astonishment at the large catch of fish, he shows righteous anger at Satan when he tries to tempt him, and he shows frustration when the Pharisees try to trap him with the question of tribute outside the temple. He acts like a man that would draw thousands to spend a day listening and learning on a hillside in Galilee.

  • What do you think about this poem about moral relativism?

I'm reposting this because the poem got chopped off at the end (this is my first time asking, and I'm trying to figure it out!) Basically this is a summary of the worldview without God...feel free to comment on or bash away! :)

    We believe in Marxfreudanddarwin

    We believe everything is OK

as long as you don't hurt anyone

to the best of your definition of hurt,

and to the best of your knowledge.

We believe in sex before, during, and

    after marriage.

We believe in the therapy of sin.

We believe that adultery is fun.

    We believe that sodomy’s OK.

We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything's getting better

    despite evidence to the contrary.

    The evidence must be investigated

And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there's something in horoscopes

    UFO's and bent spoons.

Jesus was a good man just like Buddha,

    Mohammed, and ourselves.

He was a good moral teacher though we think

    His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same-

at least the one that we read was.

They all believe in love and goodness.

They only differ on matters of creation,

sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing

Because when you ask the dead what happens

    they say nothing.

If death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its

    compulsory heaven for all

    excepting perhaps

    Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Kahn

We believe in Masters and Johnson

    What's selected is average.

    What's average is normal.

    What's normal is good.

    We believe in total disarmament.

We believe there are direct links between warfare and

    bloodshed.

Americans should beat their guns into tractors .

And the Russians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good.

It's only his behavior that lets him down.

This is the fault of society.

Society is the fault of conditions.

Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that

    is right for him.

    Reality will adapt accordingly.

    The universe will readjust.

    History will alter.

We believe that there is no absolute truth

    excepting the truth

that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,

And the flowering of individual thought.

    If chance be

    the Father of all flesh,

disaster is his rainbow in the sky

    and when you hear

    State of Emergency!

    Sniper Kills Ten!

    Troops on Rampage!

    Whites go Looting!

    Bomb Blasts School!

It is but the sound of man

worshipping his maker. (i.e. - nothingness - since he believes there is no creator -comment mine)
