Estimate the number of stars in the Galaxy?
The Sun, which is 2.2x10^20m from the center of the Milky Way galaxy, revolves around that center once every 2.5x10^8 years. Assuming each star in the Galaxy has a mass equal to the Sun's mass of 2.0x10^30kg, the stars are distributed uniformly in a sphere about the galactic center, and the Sun is at the edge of the sphere, estimate the number pf stars in the Galaxy.

1 AnswerChemistry6 years agoA 70W lightbulb hooked up in series with a bunch of 50W lightbulbs...will it glow brighter or dimmer?
I know power is P=IV=i^2R=(V^2)/R
and that current is the same for resistors in series.
But is the resistance the same? And if that is the case, then potential would have to increase....is that what causes a brighter light? The potential increase?
PHYSICS! :) Any help appreciated, thanks!!
5 AnswersEngineering7 years agoHow to get an ebook on your iPad? School textbook?

It's P Chem
I am obviously a chem major because I can not find a version I can buy to use on my iPad!
I suspect there isn't one, but like I said....computers and I don't know each other so well.
Does anyone have any ebook finder suggestions?
Anything helps! Thanks!!
2 AnswersOther - Education7 years agoSimple physics question?
Two objects (ie boxes) one on top of the other
The top one is smaller, weighing just 1/3 of the box on the bottom
The very bottom surface with the bottom box is frictionless (for the sake of the problem)
The surface on the top of the bottom box where the smaller box rests, does have friction
My question is, if you push only the top box (force applied horizontally), will the bottom box move at the same speed but a different acceleration??
PS I'm a chemist, so the whole logic part of physics is really difficult. I was supposed to find the acceleration of each box, and I got 4.1 m/s2 for the little box and 5.1m/s2 for the big box, but I'm not sure if this makes any sense.
PSS!! If you're interested in actually solving the pblm, the givens are little box mass=15kg, big box=50kg, the coefficient for static friction is 0.6 and for kinetic friction it's 0.4, and the force applied (horizontally) is 120N; But the math part is easier for me, it's just getting the logical concepts that I'm struggling with.
1 AnswerPhysics7 years agoHelp interpreting a Bible verse?
Proverbs 30:8
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
I am unfortunately not very familiar with the Bible. I have an assignment to write a couple paragraphs on the meaning of this verse. The first line is pretty straightforward, don't lie to God, good deal, but the last two lines I'm stuck. It seems like it's saying don't give God anything you do (i.e. any poverty you have taken on or any riches you have taken on yourself) but only read the Bible? I feel like this is not exactly correct. Could I have some help?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoBased on my measurements, which dress size should I order?
I weight 110lbs and I am 5'5"
My Measurements: Bust: 34"; Waist: 24"; Hips: 35"
(PS, I know my waist is small, but I have had a lot of trouble keeping my weight at a normal healthy weight, I know I weigh a bit too little.)
And the chart is as such:
Size:Bust:Waist:Hips
0 : 32 : 25 : 35.5
2 : 33 : 26 : 36.5
4 : 34 : 27 : 37.5
6 : 35 : 28 : 38.5
I am between 2 and 4 I think. But I am very unsure
PS This is for my bridesmaid dress in my best friend's wedding!!!! :)
Anyone know a lot about sizes?

It's like the more I practice the worse the numbers get!!! Am I crazy!?!?
And I can barely get above 70. I only got over 100 a couple times. In practice mode. Am I the only one?? So frustrating!!! It's like skill has little to nothing to do with the number!?!?
2 AnswersOther - Entertainment8 years agoHelp with instantaneous velocity?
The height (in centimeters) at time t (in seconds) of a small mass oscillating at the end of a spring is
h(t) = 4 cos(8πt).
Calculate the mass's average velocity over the time interval [4, 4.6]
and estimate the instantaneous velocity at t = 2.
OK I know how to do this problem but the stupid online homework isn't taking my answer!!!!! For the first part I did [h(4.6)-(h(4)]/(4.6-4) and got -1.6632 cm/sec. Apparently that is incorrect. For the second one, I took the derivative and plugged in t=2 and that didn't work for me either. I am so confused and annoyed with stupid online hw!!
ANYTHING HELPS!!! Thank you so much!!!
2 AnswersMathematics8 years agoShould I take vitamin B12 supplements?
I am a vegetarian (I used to be vegan, but I found there were too many nutritional holes) but I still don't eat dairy either. Looking at my food, I can't find a sufficient source of vitamin B12 in anything. However your body needs only a little bit to make sufficient RBC's and, well, frankly I don't like the idea of taking a dietary supplement, I would rather find a way to get it naturally.
Is there a way for someone who doesn't eat meat or dairy to obtain vitamin B12? If so, what foods? If I am not experiencing any of the early signs of vit B12 deficiency, should I still take the supplements based purely on my dietary practices?
Thank you!!!
4 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan8 years agoGood vegan recipes to impress?
I am a vegan and I love to cook and bake. I have two guys who don't believe that vegan food can be good. I want to make something that will change their mind, but I can't decide what!
I am thinking of baking something, it is a super cold day and something warm would be preferable.
I can do a soup, but I feel it's not impressive enough. Any suggestions?? Fellow Vegan believers!? Haha :) Thanks for all the help!

I am a third year College Undergraduate Student, and I have absolutely no money. I understand that chemistry teachers are in demand and have been told by many that there are plenty of scholarship opportunities out there. I have googled like crazy and for some reason can't find one that will work. I am incredibly sick of financial problems, and I just want to be able to get my degree and start working so I can quit my stupid coffee shop job and actually start my career.
Has anyone found and used a great scholarship program? Or any program that can help?
Thanks so much!

1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoCalculus sequence problem?
I'm supposed to calculate the limit of

But I get that the answer is infinity so it's divergent...but my answer is wrong! How do I do it? I'm so confused!
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoPhysics projectile motion question?
A plane, diving with constant speed at an angle of 45.6° with the vertical, releases a projectile at an altitude of 648 m. The projectile hits the ground 5.31 s after release. (a) What is the speed of the plane? (b) How far does the projectile travel horizontally during its flight? What were the magnitudes of the (c) horizontal and (d) vertical components of its velocity just before striking the ground? (State your answers to (c) and (d) as positive numbers.)
So I used the equation y-y0=v0sin(theta)t-(1/2)gt^2
and got v0=134.4
I then used a system of equations to find the other answers, but I got all of them wrong! I am really confused, what equations should I use??
