How should laws protecting our rights be written?
The recent uproar over Indiana's religious freedom protection has pointed out, again, that there are times when legitimate rights can clash. Protection of religious rights is a legitimate concern. Protection of civil rights is also a legitimate concern.
In a case where civil rights clash with religious rights, how should the government best represent everyone's interests? I've read numerous writings from both sides of this discussion, and most writings seems bent only on proving the opposing side wrong. In fact, both sides are right in wanting their cherished freedoms protected. So, without discussion of parties or individuals......
What is your solution to protecting the rights of all Americans?
Please, if you're entire answer consists of spewing venom at either the right, or left, or Democrats, or Republicans, save your time for someone else's question. I'm hoping to get something other than "just get rid of XXX so we can have our way".
10 AnswersPolitics6 years agoWould Democrats characterize Rutgers students protesting Condoleeza Rice's invitation to speak as racist?

Students at Rutgers staged a sit-in to protest the University's invitation to Condoleeza Rice to speak at graduation this year. Given that anyone opposed to the current administration's views is labeled as a racist by many Democrats (I didn't say all, I said many), would those same individuals who stereotype conservatives as racist also consider the student protestors racist?

Speaker of the House Boehner ordered a select committee to investigate the potential coverup of Benghazi incidents in light of recently released documents. According to the article, several people are urging Rep. Pelosi to not assign any Democrats to the committee.
If you were Pelosi, would you assign someone?
Why or why not?

According to the Small Business Administration, employees of small businesses account for 55% of the American workforce.

According to the text of the Paycheck Fairness Act which is currently being debated by the Senate, small businesses are exempt rom the act according to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, which is the law that the Paycheck Fairness Act amends. Why would the authors of the Paycheck Fairness Act exempt small businesses from this act?
7 AnswersPolitics7 years agoWho has read the text of the Paycheck Fairness Act?
I've seen plenty of rhetoric from both sides about the Paycheck Fairness Act, originally introduced to the U.S. Senate in January 2009. With this bill in the limelight again, both sides are rounding up the usual suspects for finger pointing. Some of the strong opinions that I've read were authored by individuals who clearly have not actually read the bill to form their own opinions, and choose instead to rely on the opinions of their favorite news source.
Did anyone actually read the bill?
