  • Software development in 1964?

Hallo. I am currently writing a novel, and I need to know a little about software development perhaps in 1964. How many people were aware of such a profession? Were the coders considered what might be called 'nerds'? I am generally interested in the public awareness and understanding of it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

  • What would be a great German horror novels?

Hallo. As I am studying German at school, I have decided to read a book in German to increase my knowledge of the language. When I was five, I have learned German by watching German cartoons, but since then, I have forgotten most of it :p

Anyhow, I have a deep interest in horror (especially fantasy+horror), but would not want to read a book that was originally written in English and only translated into German. That would not be as satisfying as reading the work of an original author. So, would anyone be able to inform me of a good novel (preferably horror) written in vernacular German? I would be thankful, and award a best answer, of course.

  • Starting a Song of Ice and Fire from the third book...?

Hallo. I have recently discovered the fantasy series, and from what I head, they are immensely good. Having searched for it in a book store, I was only able to find the third book. My questions is, would I destroy the experience by beginning from the third book? Or are these books easy to understand on their own without much confusion? Thank you.

  • How to replace CPU on Dell Optiplex 740?

Hello. My father had bought recently a new computer, and I am looking for a way to replace its CPU with my weaker CPU. Now, not only have I only discovered about this thermal paste after removing the heat sink, but I have discovered something which threatens my whole mission. It appears that my old CPU does not have integrated graphics. Would that mean that if I insert it into the Optiplex, then it will not be ale to operate? I do not think that I saw a graphics card in there, so, does this mean that there is no deal here? Thanks for the help.

2.Whether you are male or female.

    3. Your age.

    4. Whether you liked horror in the past.

    5. Would you like to actually experience something out of a horror movie in reality?

    Thanks!

  • Adapting to Visual Studio 11?

Hello all. I have been learning C++ for some time, and, after installing Windows 8, have discovered that it comes with Visual Studio 11, which is interesting. After some research, it appears that this version is much more efficient, allowing better, faster software to be written.

Now, I have been working with CodeBox (or at least I think so. I could have forgotten the name. But it is just a free application to code) before, and it feels very strange to be in this new atmosphere. Libraries I have never heard of before are required, and I just can't find a Console Application project to learn on. Are there any suggestions on this? I am utterly confused by this interface, and find it difficult to use. Since when is system ("PAUSE") not supported?

Now, I am just asking for an explanation about all this. This is C++, but why is this completely different to the C++ I know? And what if I manage to select and use the Visual Studio 11 complier in CodeBox (or whatever)? Will the new features stay, and new problems disappear?

Now, I know that this is a field only recently introduced (I mean Visual Studio 11), but I just need to know this. I admit that my C++ knowledge does not extend much beyond creating simple console applications at this point, but I wish to learn in an atmosphere which does not need relearning every few years to gain the benefits.

Ah, I am confusing myself. So, any suggestions?

  • Do you hate communism? Why?

    Just curious :)

I personally hate it because it is not only inefficient, but does not allow for a person to evolve. Capitalism sucks, but is much better. Socialism I don't know about. I have been devising a perfect system for the world, and although it is somewhat similar to communism, it is much different.

    Again, I am just interested.

  • Wow would you react if you saw somebody named this...?

I have been considering to change my name once I finish college to something better, so could you please tell me how you would react to these names? Thanks.

    Severus (some surname).

    Severus Draknghar.

    Sammael Draknghar.

Thanks again. These are names which not only suit me, but I find great. So, how would you react if you saw somebody named that? I hope that the words 'harry potter fan' would not spring to mind lol

  • Why are half of the questions deleted?

Hello. And PLEASE do not delete this.

Now, did anybody notice that 30% of questions are deleted here? Even decent questions which do no harm/disrespect? Yesterday my question was deleted within 5 seconds by Christians because they did not like it, but why other questions which would not offend any people at all?

  • What are dark religions suitable for me?

Do you know of any? I have been looking for a religion for myself, but could not find anything corresponding to my beliefs: there is no God, but we are Gods. Man may live in darkness, as long as no harm is done etc.

I am also an inner Goth, as well as a worshipper of the night.

Any advice? Not Satanism, as hatred is not the way of life I seek, but peaceful darkness. Vampirism perhaps? But I will have to test myself first... Is anybody aware of a religion something along these lines? A religion which revolves about not hurt, but the joy of darkness. And not worshipping Gods, or nature, since I am not entirely close to nature. Are there any such religions?

    Thank you for your replies.

  • Do any of you feel the Darkness?

Not really a mental health problem, but I could not find a place more appropriate for such a topic.

Is there anybody out there who feels an orgasm-like feeling when confronting dark and environmentally creepy places or some type of music? Anyone, when listening to Alex Theme, Forsaken or Sad Eye Doll?

Also, I know there are some people like this, but how many people actually feel Great during Night? When they are in from of their PC or outside, feeling as though their day has just begun (but unfortunately having to sleep)? Feeling really excited when finding themselves in a real-life scenery similar to Silent Hill 2?

That feeling is great, and I personally refer to it as Darkness, or seeking out Darkness. I enjoy my nightmares, almost every one, since none of them have any effect of me, as I watch mostly horror films until 2am into the night. The feeling that I receive when looking from the window of a train in the middle of the night during a journey and seeing a seemingly abandoned power plant is spectacular. Not rivalled, though, by looking at a field leading into the distance, with building out there that could be harbouring hell-knows-what. Man, I feel it just by talking about it.

So, anybody else like this? Or am I alone on the planet? I do not mean to sound cool-and-tough and whatsoteenishever or showing off. I just wanted to convey my point across. So, anybody else had some experience with the Darkness?

And please, if you don't understand, then dont hate. I come in peace, and wish to be answered no differently. Anybody may object or whatever, but that is not the question.

So, anybody? All I could find about this topic online was some stupid song called 'I believe in a thing called love', which was worse than nothing.

  • How can a man tear out the heart if the ribs are protecting it?

Shylock, for example, wished to cut off the heart of Antonio. Our friend the Terminator also ripped out the heart with his bare hands.

And my main character is about to do it.

But won't the ribs protect it? Get in the way? Maybe T-101 had a chance, but what about the countless other occasions which had this displayed?

The Queen of the Damned? Some other movie I cannot recall now?

There are many examples, but I don't get it.

  • Rob Dougan Alternative?

I really liked his album and wanted to know if similar artists exist. I tried to google it but it only turned out useless spam. Any alternative artists that you know? I mean something like Joe Romersa etc.

I am not sure what genre it is, but it rocks.
