My cat gets open sores on her head.?
Every couple of weeks my cat will get an open sore or two on her head. They seem to itch and it's very hard for me to get them healed. I can't figure out what is causing this. We have been to the vet twice. She has gotten two skin scrapes and tested negative for fungus, mites or mange. I have changed her food to Natural Balance allergy formula but no change. Right now we are managing it with antibiotic wipes just to keep the sores from getting infected. The vet is not offering any other treatment. Has anyone dealt with this?
3 AnswersCats10 years agoI need new ideas for dog treats.?
Ok, I have taken a new job where I am away for LONG hours. I have a dog walker but also want to do something else to keep my dogs from getting too bored. I am already using KONGS and freezing them with treats inside but wanted to see if there were other good ideas out there. I'm looking for a treat I can buy or make & freeze so that it will take my dogs a substantial amount of time and work to finish the treat. Please keep in mind that two of my senior dogs are missing ALL teeth & my other dog has a tiny little mouth. They can all still eat solid food just fine but cannot do hard stuff that takes teeth. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
1 AnswerDogs1 decade agoWhat happens when a pregnant cat is spayed?
I found a stray cat that is 6-7 weeks pregnant. I know you can get a pregnant cat spayed but I wondering exactly how they dispose of the live kittens. Do they euthanize them with an injection or what? I really don't want her to have the kittens since it will be very hard to find them good homes but I have an issue with having live kittens killed or have them suffer in anyway.
3 AnswersCats1 decade agoUnited Mediation Group for modifying your mortgage?
I am late paying my mortgage due to being laid off from my job last year. I was contacted by a company called United Mediation Group. They will modify my mortgage and take my interest rate down to 2%. This will cost me $1,500. My loan will still be held by my current mortgage co. This sounds too good to be true - has anyone done this before? I'm wondering if there are hidden problems and if this will lower my credit score by modifying my mortgage.
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoCan someone recommend a joint supplement that will not upset my dogs stomach?
My Chinese Crested has arthritis in her hips plus luxating patellas. She needs to be on a joint supplement but everything I try - prescription & over the counter - upsets her stomach. The stomach upset seems to get worse, not better, with continued use. The last one I tried was called Ligaplex and after about two weeks she started having diarrhea and vomiting.
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoI have a dog behavior/training question.?
I have a female dog that often growls at my other two dogs if they get close to her or try to lay on the dog bed beside her. They don't even have to be touching her - just near her. They are not rough around her either - they gingerly lay down beside her and she growls then barks really loud and lunges at them. She has never bitten them. I should also explain that both my other dogs were with me for several years before she came along. She was a dog I fostered then decided to adopt. Should I allow her to behave like this as it's just the way of dogs working things out amongst themselves or should I do something? My dogs don't seem really bothered or scared of her, I just fear she will get worse and try to bite them. They are both very submissive and would probably not fight back. I don't want them to feel bullied in their own home.
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agoI'm interested in some type of career in the healthcare field.?
I've been unemployed for months now and have decided my best bet is to return to school. I'm trying to find out what type of health care job is the quickest to obtain (lab tech, medical assistant, lpn, etc) and how much you can earn. I'm looking for the quickest way to get a new career that pays enough for me to support myself.
1 AnswerHealth Care1 decade agoMaltese with a light colored, dry nose.?
I have a 7-year old female Maltese. Her nose seems to be getting lighter in color and is always dry. She has had a dry nose since she was a pup. My neighbor told me that a light colored nose in a Maltese can mean poor health. I was also under the assumption that a dog with a dry nose is sick. She seems to be in good health. Can anyway tell me if there is any truth to this information?
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow long does it take for tapeworm meds to take affect?
One of my foster dogs was treated with Cestex for tapeworms. I gave her the pill 24 hours ago but am still seeing tapeworms in her bedding and her stool. On the medication package it says it works by paralyzing the worms and allowing them to be digested. It also says you should not see anymore tapeworms after treatment. Just want to be sure the meds are working. I will be giving a 2nd dose in two weeks just to be safe but obviously want them gone now and am concerned that I still see worms.
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoCan I bathe a dog after giving it Capstar?
I just brought home a new foster that has a severe skin infection due to past flea infestation. I was told to give her a medicated bath tonight. Well, when we got home I found a couple more fleas still on her and gave her a Capstar. Can I still give her a bath tonight or will that cancel out the effects of the Capstar? My thought is to wait a couple of hours for the fleas to leave her body and then bathe her. Just wanted to see if anyone had a different opinion.
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoMy dog won't take pills.?
I have tried the following methods: peanut butter, pill pockets, mixing with wet food and finally just sticking it down her throat. She either eats around the pill OR if I just make her swallow it she throws it up. I thought maybe someone out there may have an idea I haven't thought of. Thanks!
11 AnswersDogs1 decade agoQuestion about Mono.?
I was diagnosed with Mono about 25 years ago. Recently I've been diagnosed with Mono again or rather my doctor has told me that my symptoms are resurfacing and could last a minimum of three weeks to several months. I am supposed to be traveling out of town next week to attend my grandmother birthday party. My Dr. has suggested I may be contagious and should not go. He has also said it is better I rest and not do anything stressful or strenuous (due to slightly enlarged spleen) over the next three weeks. I really don't feel that bad. If I don't get too close to my Grandma is it still ok for me to go?
3 AnswersInfectious Diseases1 decade agoMy senior dog has no teeth.?
He had his last 6 teeth pulled and no has no teeth left. I'm having trouble finding resources on how to care for a dog with no teeth. My vet said just to feed him canned food - but his stools are too loose. Can anyone recommend some good web sites or books on how to care for a dog with no teeth?
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoAny good supplements for Luxating Patellas?
My Chinese Crested just had surgery (two weeks ago) for a luxating patella. I'd like to start giving her a supplement but there are so many to choose from! I'd like to hear some feedback on specific supplements that others have tried and which work the best.
4 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow can I determine that the new puppy I purchase will not have luxating patellas?
Is there a "test" or "health check" that the breeder must do on the parents to make sure they are not passing on this genetic defect? I need to know what questions to ask the breeder.
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHas anyone ever had success with the natural, herbal or homeopathic heartworm treatments? ?
I have a new foster dog that is too sick to survive traditional heartworm treatments. I see many homeopathic treatments advertised & of course they say they work but I would like to hear from someone who's had first hand experience.
