just another guy who lives and breathes cars. made car reviews here and there, also sold used cars as a sideline business for a while. never did either professionally. all my answers are based on experience, except for some basic racing techniques and upgrades which i attended training sessions for as a hobby.

  • about basketball benches?

i've been wondering for the longest time... why don't they put bigger seats on the benches of basketball courts (for pro's that is)? we all know they're a helluva lot bigger than your average guy!

  • Is Luke Walton asking to be traded?

...or is he happy enough getting benchwarmer minutes and getting millions for it? he signed a contract for i think $40 million and then two things happened: Trevor Ariza and Pau Gasol. Now Odom is getting the SF minutes off the bench. then there's radmanovic who's shooting pretty well this year. is he a happy camper or has anyone heard of him trying to get to a team that has more use for him?

  • is vitamin water really better than juice drinks?

what i've been drinking lately is propel, i dunno if the name's the same in all countries but it's the vitamin water brand of gatorade. it says calorie-free, but it says there's 10.8 Energy (Kcal) per 300ml serving. and it tastes just a little less sweet than juice drinks. plus it's clear, so i guess there's no food coloring here. but is it really better?

  • average stats for a pick-up game player?

i recently played in a tournament from my school for alumni, and it's the first tournament i ever played in where they kept the stats. anyhow, here's my average stat line, rounded to the nearest whole number:

    10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 TO's, 0.5 blocks, 38%FG, 33%3PT, 75%FT, 25 minutes (we play 4 10-minute quarters)

i've never played organized basketball and these things are about the closest that i'll ever get to playing such. i know the 75%FT is pretty good even in the pro's, but i'm wondering if the FG and 3PT are okay, considering i only play for leisure, exercise and for a few of these tournaments a year, and i never played for my school or anything that had a real coach, and had real practice sessions. i play point guard mostly for my team, i'm like a really bad version of jason kidd, i rebound and find teammates and don't look to score all most of the time. thanks!!

PS: for those wondering, the 3spg is mostly from playing the passing lanes. i'm a pretty good on-ball defender (relative to our competition), but my team plays really good, solid zone defense that's how i got those, credit isn't on me really.

  • Nearest MRT/LRT Station to Binondo?

i usually bring a car to wherever i go, so i'm not very familiar with commuting.

I'm going to Binondo tomorrow, and I know where the area is, i just don't know how to get to where there i wanna go (BPI Building, Plaza Cervantes cor. Juan Luna), and i've no idea about the parking situation there either. so my plan is to take a train (LRT or MRT) then take a cab from there to BPI Building. So, which LRT station is nearest to Binondo, and which line is it on? thanks in advance!!

  • Noise while wheels are turning? Mechanics, help?

My 2002 Lancer (same model as 1997, only facelifted) makes a rather scary noise while moving. It kinda sounds like the rubber is rubbing against steel or something. Or maybe like the brakes of a bus. I'm about 95% sure it's the right front tire (disc brake assembly, if that helps).

It's very unpredictable when it comes or what prompts the sound, but when it comes, it's loudest when the car's just rolling at a a few kph, and it grows fainter as the car accelerates, and is completely gone by about 60kph. also, the sound goes away while turning (i found this out by wiggling the steering wheel on a straight, doing about 20kph) and while stepping on the brakes. let go of the brakes and the sound comes right back. and then the sound mysteriously just stops while you're driving.

My dad's trusted mechanic has tried changing the brake pads, overhauling the brake assembly and a complete underbody wash, and nothing's worked. his next suspect is that the disc needs to be re-faced. I'm not convinced that the brakes are the problem since the noise actually stops when i hit the brakes. and since the guy's failed to stop the sqeaking noise of my dad's Honda CRV while braking, i'm beginning to think that brakes are his waterloo. what do you guys think is the problem? if you need more info, i'll update this question. thanks much!!!

  • How to set-up a small office LAN/WiFi LAN?

Hi guys, thanks in advance for your useful answers. =P

Anyhow, I work for a start-up company, and for the last several months, we've been making quite good on revenue, and I see it fit to start upgrading our hardware and network. we're currently working off a rather jurassic set-up: DSL modem hooked to a hub, which is then connected to a server, and the rest of us hook up to the hub (4 of us only so far, but we plan on expanding to 10 before the end of the year).

Since we're very much mobile, i was thinking on replacing our nineteen four-gotten era PC's with laptops. and since we're going with laptops, i was thinking we could go WiFi instead of cables. also, our current set-up is that we're all just hooked on the net - we're not networked in any way.

So, since we need a server anyway (is this correct? any wi-fi router needs a server of some sort?), i wanted us to be on in a LAN so that we all can share one printer.

What do we need to set this up? also, can a not-so-techie guy pull this off, or do we need to hire/contract a network specialist?

    Thanks!!

  • ipod nano or itouch? or maybe a different brand?

basically i just need a music player with 8GB, or 4GB at the very least, and easy to use (loading music to and connecting to a car audio head unit). preferrably small, too. the itouch just looks really cool, but i heard it isn't very simple to load music to since it doesn't register as an external disk drive when you plug it in the USB port. what do you think? also, any other brands that you think will do even better than the ipod? i live in the philippines, so there aren't many other choices... creative, samsung and sony i think are the next biggest ones after apple...
