I want to be an author. My current project is a very very long series about half-wolf half-cat like creatures that can control the elements, called Elemental Feliupus. http://elementalfeliupus.smfforfree.com

  • Weird, but I need to video chat with Spanish speaker for homework...?

Okay, so for my homework I have to talk to three people who speak Spanish and live, or have lived, outside the USA. This has to be over video chat or on the phone (but I am looking for video chat).

All I need is a picture, name, country, and to ask one question, "What do you think of United States' culture?"

Does anyone fit these requirements, or does anyone know where I can find people to video chat that do?

  • Suggestions for a Dresden Files playlist...?

I want to make a Dresden Files (series by Jim Butcher) playlist, but I've found that there are only two songs I have in mind. They are Tattoos on this Town by Jason Aldean and Like my Dog by Billy Currington.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions of songs that make you think of the Dresden Files, any genre and whatnot.

If there is a specific character or event that the song makes you think of, please include that.

I've read Cold Days, so events from that are fair game!

  • Should I buy this netbook?

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LLG9Z8/ref=ox...

This is the computer. I want to get it to carry to classes to take notes via google drive. Also, I want to bring it around campus with me for NaNoWriMo. My current computer is a 17.3 laptop and is rather heavy for carrying around all day. I love the reviews and the price of the netbook. I just don't know if the impulse buy is worth it (I have thought about the idea before, just never looked at them before now).

  • Amigurumi Forum Community?

I am considering starting an amigurumi forum community on account of how I went looking for one and couldn't find one. First off, does anyone know of a good one? Or one at all?

Secondly, I just wanted to check around and see if anyone would be interested in joining such a thing. It would be a forum and also members would be able to have galleries to post photos.

I think it would be fun to have people to talk about amigurumi adventures and ideas and etc. with.

    Input?

  • Are there any trees associated with unicorns?

I know that in the Unicorn Tapestries there is a pomegranate tree, but as far as I know that's the only place the two are associated. I also remember a book I read once that made an association between the unicorn and the ash tree, but I think that may have just been that one book.

Are there any trees that are multiplicatively associated with unicorns, or trees with very prominent reasons to be associated with unicorns?

  • Bleeding colors in the wash...?

This will be the opposite of what most people expect, but how do I get it to happen? And does it happen evenly? I have a cotton shirt I want slightly purpled and I have some shoelaces that I hope will bleed. I know there are much better ways to dye clothes, but I am just wondering if it will work.

  • First Craft Fair Maybe?

Part One...So long story short I've been considering selling some things and I've considered the internet and selling to people I know. I've kind of hit a wall though in not knowing what to do next. Then in the news paper there was an article for a local craft show around Christmas that was trying to fill booths.

Part Two...One of the things I've run into is things like sales tax and legally things. That's not really what this question is about, as I have plans to go to a few meetings of my college's Entrepreneurs club and maybe get help there. They said they've helped people with small businesses before. But if anyone would happen to have any really good advice about legal type stuff I'd love to hear it. I live in Iowa by the way.

Part Three...THIS IS THE MAIN QUESTION...

The craft fair is small, as in I've never heard of it before and I go to the event it's related to every year. They're trying to raise awareness about it this year and it will be at a more convenient time this year. That being said, how much inventory would you bring to this if you were to go? Considering the size and things...oh yeah, my town is about 26,000 people. I need to know what an estimate of what a good inventory would be to think about if I could make that much in time.

Second question, the news paper said they had spots for "vendors" and for "crafters". I assumed that vendors are more of like businesses and crafters are like people but crafters still sell things, am I correct? The best way to find out would be to call and ask, but if it's lingo that someone here may know it can't hurt to ask.

Third question, well... I thought I had a third question but I can't think of what it was...darn.

That ended up longer than I had expected it to be, but any help you can spare would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • How long should I make my golf club covers?

Most often I see club covers that go quite a way down the club, rather than just cover the head. However, I have seen them to cover only the head and another inch or so. I am making my own covers for my mom's clubs. I just joined my school's golf team this season and mostly I just want to stop the clubs from clicking as I walk. I'm crocheting the covers, and the yarn isn't as stretchy as most club covers would be, so I was leaning towards a short "tail end" of the covers. Any thoughts from golfers who have used club covers as such?

  • Etsy (or similar site) Users, How do you price your items?

I am thinking of joining a site, whether it be Etsy or something similar, and I was just wondering...How do you price your items? Specifically, I'm wondering for amigurumi or general crochet, because that's what I would want to do. The prices of some of the things on Etsy seem a bit high, but there is yarn cost and work put into it, I'm just wondering how anybody calculates all that. If anyone could help me out I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks!

  • Book releases for Kindle?

I know it probably varies by series, but I doubt anyone would know for the specific series I'm curious specifically about. Anyways, do books usually come out for Kindle the same day they do in hardcover? If they do, are they available at midnight?

Thanks for any help! (p.s. the specific seres is the Dresden Files, if anyone would happen to know for sure for the series)

  • B&A: Something fun to think about?

Well, I think it would be fun...

First, let's say that your book gets published and whatnot/famous in some way, or at least famous enough that it has some, well, people that dislike it (because it's pretty much an unavoidable happening ;) )

And now, let's assume someone writes a parody of your book. What would it be like?

What things would be poked fun at the most? What might make you slightly annoyed (or more)? What else?

Personally I think, randomly for fun, it would be interesting to write a short parody of my story...not sure why, but it kind of sounds like fun...

  • Question about buying an engraver?

Okay, so I am looking for an engraver to by. So far I've found the Dremel 290-01 and the Dremel 290-05 that interest me. I can't decide between the two though. They look rather similar in all the pictures I can find. All I want it for is because I want to buy some pet tags and engrave fun quotes on them. Normally I would just go to the machine at my local Wal-mart but I want to do a lot more than I have money for, and I figure that one of these tools would be worth it.

Has anyone had any experience with either/both of these tools? I recently found the 290-01 at my local Home Depot for probably what would be cheaper than the internet & shipping. I'm leaning towards that one. Any knowledge of these tools or better out there?

p.s. I'm sorry if this ends up in the wrong category!

  • B&A Writers: Have your characters ever had to...(+BQ)?

Have any of your characters ever had to do something you couldn't do yourself?

Today I realized that the second book of my trilogy is about Koriun's (one of my MC's, a unicorn) decision about getting a new mate (inadvertantly). His mate and child died like 6 years before this happens. Anyways, This is something I personally would not be able to do.

Do any of your characters do things that you think are really weird? If so how does that affect your writing about it?

BQ: It's kinda lame, but a song to go with your most recent chapter?

For me it's Valentines Day by Linkin Park...I just realized how well it fits because it just played on my iTunes.

  • B&A: Help with a title?

It's a fantasy story is about a 17 year old girl named Regina who is chosen to be a Keeper of a unicorn named Koriun. She can't see him however, because she's not a virgin (common unicorn legend). There is another kid, 12 year old Hayden, who has been Koriun's Keeper for years now, and Regina joins him. This all takes place in a unicorn haven next to her small town (like 75 houses in the town) in the middle of the woods.

I've been calling it The Unicorn Haven, but I would like to get some more title ideas before that sticks.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • B&A: Have you ever dreamt about your characters?

I was half asleep after writing the other day and I was vaguely wondering if I'd dream about them, but I never fell asleep.

Has anyone ever had a dream about their story/characters? Was it like what really happens or did they do something really odd?

  • B&A: Any Good? Opinions?

Ello~! I am working on a series, and I put a bit of it up on worthyofpublishing to see if anyone thought it was good (it's also on my site http://elementalfeliupus.smfforfree.com)/ but no one seems to have any input/even read it. Idk. I love my story so very much, but I would like some opinions. It's fantasy about creatures that are like a halfcat halfwolf called Elemental Feliupus. They have the power to control an element, and live on a world called Maeoria.

If you might have the time, could you possibly read one or so of what I have?

...My internet won't pull it up so I can get a link, but just search Elemental Feliupus on worthyofpublishing.com and I'd perfer if you read either Mipu or Kinru, they're better....Thanks~!

  • B&A: What would you think of this story?

I thought it up as a "what if" story that went way awry...

Okay so the girl, whom I've pretty much named Nathalia Grace Rodgers, goes to a local community college, and lives with her parents. Her dad loves math. One day Nathalia learns to {integrate inverse hyperbolic trig functions} (or something like that, that's just something my dad has always thrown around in math type conversations...)

She doesn't get the chance to tell her dad (whom I've pretty much named Jack Ralph Rodgers...not so sure about Ralph though...I like the name, but it doesn't quite fit) because she's in the shower when he gets home late from work. While she is in the shower, a man breaks into their house. She doesn't know this, but when she goes up stairs there's a LOT of blood everywhere, and she assumes her mom and brother are dead. She freaks and runs back down stairs and hides in a room in her house.

Someone else is in the room. She thinks it's her dad. But why wouldn't she, it looks just like her dad. They go, Nathalia doesn't know where to, it's just like get in the car kind of thing. They end up in Wheatland Wyoming, but Nathalia was asleep when they got there, so she doesn't know where they are. They hang out in a small shack like house, log cabin type thing...

Nathalia soon finds out that it is not her dad. It is her dad's twin, of whom she's never known. She doesn't let on that she knows. One day he thinks she is still asleep and takes a call...she finds out his name is Jake. He leaves, she tries to find usefull things and escape. In the middle of this, Jake returns. He sneaks up on her, and beats her. The last thing Nathalia remembers before blacking out is him undoing his/her pants buttons.

Nathalia later wakes up in a hospital. She has no idea how much later. She remembers what happened, and assumes she was raped. She decides not to wait around in the hospital with all the hospital bullcrap and escapes.

She sees a sign that says Wheatland, and assumes it's the Wheatland near her small Iowa town. She goes there, and it's not. Nathalia decides to go to Colorado. She's got no reason to go home without her family. Her closest aunt (to wyoming) lives in Nevada. She likes Colorado. She goes there (walking. camping. epicness) Once she gets into Colorado, however, she decides that it's not the right thing to do. She begins to think about what has happened. Decides to go to North Platte, Nebraska where her Grandmother lives with her grandfather (Mara Louise Lindville and Samuel Mark Lindville). She wants to ask her grandmother about all this. But her grandmother is old, and kind of loosing it. Her grandpa isn't her biological grandpa, so he wouldn't know anything. Maybe she'll find out something.

Nathalia decides to go back home. Her grandparents give her money to get there. On the way into town, she finds her dad. She is surprized to see he's alive, but she's unsure if it's really him. Tests him by telling him about learning the math thing. He knows what she's talking about. He knows nothing about the mom and brother though. They go back to his appartment (temporary, police looking for evidence @ home, cleaning, etc).

They connect to the Wyoming cops, and learn Nathalia was not raped. The cops came in just as she blacked out, on a tip.

    End quote:

"Maybe the cops will find them all. Maybe we can rebuild our lives."

    So it stays open...

    Possible sequel:

a few years later, everything is starting to be somewhat stable, when Nathalia and Jack are going canoeing by a small town north of their town. They find Nathalia's mom/brother/both but they have sever amnesia and have started new lives.

    *

What do you think of the idea?

Does the possible sequel idea sound too cheezy??

Thank you so much for reading all this~!
