  • 10 gallon stocking ideas?

Hi! I have a 10 gallon lightly planted tank with white sand in the bottom. It's filtered

and heated and all that as well. All that's living there right now are 6 ember tetras (and an assassin snail, temporarily, to get rid of pond snails). I'd like to get more creatures to live in the tank! I know 10 gallons isn't a lot to work with, but what are some stocking ideas for this tank?

    Thanks :)

How can you cope with putting your pet down?

My 13-year old dog is scheduled to be put to sleep in 4 days. She has two very large unremovable tumours in her stomach; they are pressing on her organs and are most noticeably affecting her bladder (she has lots of trouble trying to go to the bathroom, and she can't really tell when she's going). She is also eating less than usual. She can't jump around like she used to either, but then again she is an old dog. Her quality of life will deteriorate quickly in this state.

However, she drinks normally and responds to us normally and can still get around just fine... the vet also said that she probably isn't really in pain from the way she responded to her examination, she might just be a bit uncomfortable. I know it's better to let her go before these good qualities leave as well, but it is these factors that make it so hard for me to think about... she will be awake and aware of whats going on when we bring her to the vet, and she hates it there so she will probably be frightened.. how can you let your pet go knowing that they are alert and are trusting in you that they will come out of this visit to the vet like any other? She doesn't know that we are bringing her there to die.

  • is there a way to protect my watercolour piece?

for one of my classes in art school we are required to complete a sketchbook over the course of the semester and hand it in at the end, and we also need to design a cover for it. i decided to create a watercolour piece to affix to the front of it. however i was just wondering if there was a way to seal or protect it since it will be quite exposed on the front of the book (which i bring with me everywhere). i just don't want it to be damaged.

    thx!

  • Could my rat be pregnant..?

    Hi

Yesterday I adopted two females from a local rescue to accompany the 2 rats that I already had at home. They're somewhere between 1 and 1 1/2 years old. They're both bigger in general than my other girls, however one of them seems pretty fat, kinda swollen in the abdomen area, but not anywhere else.? She doesn't like me picking her up and sometimes squeaks at me if I try but I don't know if that's because she's shy of me or not. She has not tried to bite me and when I introduced her to my original rats there were no problems between them.

Also, the rescue where I got them from did have a breach a few weeks ago between the male and female cages, which resulted in a couple litters, however, it WAS weeks ago.

Could she be prego, or is she probably just plump? Or could there be something else going on with her?

    Thx

  • Kuhli Loaches: yes or no?

Hello! I've set up a 10 gallon planted tank with a very fine sand substrate. It is filtered and will be heated. I currently have just one male betta living in the tank, and two assassin snails who are in there temporarily to get rid of some pond snails for me.

I plan on introducing 8 or so teeny ember tetras to the tank as well.

I would really like to get a bottom feeder to help clean the bottom of my tank since using the gravel cleaner is difficult with sand. Ive wanted kuhli loaches for quite a while, and have been thinking about getting 3 or 4. Would they do okay in this tank?

I thought also about getting some ghost shrimp instead but i reckon theres too high a chance of the betta picking them off, so id prefer not to have to try them out

    Tank mates for Betta?

I have a 10 gallon tank that houses my male betta. The tank has a very fine sand substrate and contains some val and Java fern. I will hopefully be adding a large driftwood piece in the near future.

I was wondering what sort of tank mates I could add for my betta that wouldn't bother him too much and that would do alright in my current setup.

Any and all answers appreciated! Thank you!

  • Pet rat got into ceiling!!?

I have two female rats. For out of cage time, I usually let them run around my room and explore under my bed, around my desk, etc. There is a place in my closet which has a small hole in the ceiling, but I could think of no conceivable way for them to be able to reach it, so I didn't worry about it when I let them out... Until today..... One of my rats *inconceivably* found her way up there

I can hear her running around above my head.

There is no way for me to access the ceiling through the whole that she entered, idk what I'm supposed to do!!! I don't know how she got in there so I don't know if she can even get out on her own. It is late here and I will be gone all day tomorrow at work. What should I do??? I doubt there is anything in the ways of food or water up there

Is it viable for me to just wait for her to come out, or do I need to take action now? If so do you have suggestions? I really don't know what to do

I just want her safe and sound back with her sister

    Thank you!!!!!!

  • With rats, is it the more, the better?

I currently have just two yearling female rats living in a double critter nation (which they just moved into last month). I want badly to get some some more, their home just looks so lonely with just the two of them and I bet some more companions would make my current rats lives more interesting. Do you think my rats would enjoy the company of, say, a new trio? Or since it's just been the two of them living together since I got them would it just be stressful? I know it can depend on the personality of the rats but I'm just looking for a general answer.

    Thanks!

  • Kuhli Loaches in 10 gallon?

Hi, I just recently purchased a 10 gallon tank, it is will be filtered and heated, no substrate yet. I will be adding my male betta to it and (possibly...?) two mystery snails that aren't doing well in my sister's tank. There will be plenty of java fern in there for sure and I will most likely be getting a few more varieties of plants, as well as some decor for hiding places

I was just wondering whether I could keep any Kuhli Loaches in the tank, assuming I were to get a sand substrate. I know that I need to get them in a group, so that's why I'm unsure as to whether they'd be comfortable in my tank. Would a group of 3 be okay?

  • Can I move my betta into my other tank?

I have 2 dwarf frogs and 3 otocinclus cats in a 5 gallon planted tank. I was wondering if it would be safe to move one of my betta fish into this tank? Would it be too crowded? And would it feel too threatening to the betta to be suddenly housed with different creatures (he has been living alone since I got him)?

    Thanks

  • How many rats is the ideal amount to keep?

Hi, I am the owner of 2 female fancy rats. One is about 5 months old and the other is probably about a month younger. They live in a cage that is 130 cm tall, 65 cm wide and 65 cm deep (approx. 4ft x 2ft x 2ft). If I were to get more rats, how many would you suggest I get? Do you think 2 more is a good amount companion-wise, and with the cage size would they be comfortable?

    Questions about introducing fancy rats?

Hello, 2 days ago I adopted a 6-week-old female fancy rat named Matilda. She is hand tamed and energetic, and she is also my first rattie ever :)

I am planning on adopting a second female rat around her age for her to live with soon, as I know that rats do far better in pairs (unfortunately at the location where I bought her her two sisters had already been reserved). I want her to feel comfortable and at ease in her cage and I don't want her to be lonely while I am at school during the day. However, I am not sure how I would go about introducing them.

What is a good method to introduce rats?

If I adopted the second rat within the next couple of days would my current rat already see her new cage as her territory and feel the need to defend it or would she be alright with allowing a new rat into her space? Before I adopted her she lived with her 5 brothers and sisters.

Also, because she is still quite young, would she act aggressively towards a strange rat, or would another big change frighten her?

I wish I could answer these questions myself but unfortunately I don't know her personality well enough as I have only had her for a day.

Any answers from someone with general rat knowledge would be great :)

Also if you have any tips for me about how to be a great rat owner please share them!

  • Can I take my earrings out for a soccer game?

Hi, I was hoping to get my second ear piercing tomorrow along with my friend but then I remembered that my soccer season isn t over yet, and obviously you can t wear earrings while playing soccer. I was wondering what would happen/would it be okay to take the earrings out for a game then put them right back in? this would be only 3 days after getting the piercing... :/ if not thats ok, I just had my heart set on it until I remembered about soccer.

    thanks,

What to do about my baby mice?

A week ago my sister and I found 2 baby deer mice in our yard and been keeping them alive (without our parents knowledge).

Their eyes were closed when we first got them but about 3 days ago they opened them. I think they're probably around 2 weeks old now, but Im no expert in estimating things like this so I could be off.

Until yesterday I'd been keeping them in my room in a shoebox filled with polar fleece scraps and wrapped up in my heating blanket, but they d been getting pretty active and scurrying around a lot so I moved them to an old 5 gallon fish tank I had lying around (with a lid of course). I still keep the tank on top of the heating blanket.

For the first half of the week I'd been feeding them baby formula about every 3 hours and everything was fine and they were really enthusiastic about it, except now they re really fussy. Sometimes they will only eat the tiniest bit when I go to feed them. Because of this they re also getting pretty dehydrated. I've tried giving them water but they don't want it. They will eat formula soaked crackers sometimes but that's all.

**ALSO I have researched cases of hantavirus in my area and there have been next to none. I still wash my hands everytime I touch them and I wash their bedding**

    My questions:

~Are they at weaning age and how should I do it?

~What to do about their dehydration? ~Am I keeping them in ok living conditions?

~What to do with them once they re weaned (since I won t be able to keep them)?

    Thank you!!!!

  • Hamster Tumor?

My hamster is just over a year old. Today I noticed that he has a large lump in his cheek pouch. My sister thought he'd stuffed his cheek with food but when I touched his cheek it felt hard and round... it's kind of like a grape. I can't think of any food I would have given him to make his cheek go like that, and it's definitely not seeds... my question is, "Do you think this could be a tumor?" I didn't notice anything explicitly wrong with him yesterday or the day before. Can these tumors develop so quickly?? After noticing this I also discovered some more (significantly smaller) lumps in his other cheek which I'd originally thought were seeds but when I felt them they had the same feel as the other does. Does my hammy have cancer? What should I do?

  • Is my cat depressed because of the new kitten? :(?

About a week and a half ago we brought home our new kitten- a five month old male. There was the usual uneasiness and growling and hissing between our six-year-old female and the new addition, and that's pretty much worn off by now. Our female, though, seems very sad. She doesn't want to eat very much, she lays around and when I try and nudge her up she won't move. Even when I try and pet her she'll push my hand down with her paw... this is because of the kitten, isn't it? I've been trying not to forget to give her as much attention as I normally do. And I still love her just as much, no, no. Still more than I love the kitten. She just isn't herself though. Do you think she'll forgive me for bringing another cat here? When will it happen? I can't stand her rejection :(

    Thanks.. Cassie

  • Fandom names for a cat?

Today we got a black male cat with yellow eyes but we don't know what we want to name him yet.

Can you think of any names for him from any of these fandoms:

    Sherlock

    Doctor Who

    Percy Jackson

    Harry Potter

    Adventure Time

    Thanks!

  • Do you think this is a good kitten/cat name?

My sister and I have been wanting a new kitten for a long time for a change and also as a companion for our other cat who only has our dog to look down onto... We've been thinking about adopting a black one from our local humane society since black cats are the least adopted. It's the saddest thing, because they deserve a good life as much as any other furred cat... Anyways, I'm not going to rant.

We were thinking that if we got one that had green eyes we could call them "Toothless" after the dragon from "How to Train Your Dragon". Do you think this is a good idea? We do, but then again we're weird people. Give me your opinions!!!!
