I decided Neil Gaiman was superb when I spent a lost summer with the Sandman comics and fell in love with the King of Dreams.

Now that I'm old and responsible, 'Good Omens', the book he wrote with Terry Pratchett, is the only book I can take with me on holiday again and again. Some might find it boring, or trying too hard, or whatever, but I like it. It makes me chuckle.

And 'American Gods' is a very interesting idea - what happens to the old gods in that new country called US of A? Possibly the most epic US roadtrip til now.

So yes. I like Neil Gaiman.

He's a rock star!

I really liked American Gods (though his epic Sandman series brought me to tears in The Wake.) Something about Shadow's relationship with his wife, dead though she is, really rung true for me. I can't handle too much Gaiman at a time, though; he admits that while he's writing one thing he gets the idea for his next project, and that often leads to the feeling, when opening another book of his for the first time, that you've heard this joke before, seen this trick before, and you solve his mysteries a bit faster. (Try reading American Gods and then 1602 - either one wrecks the twist ending of the other.)

Yes, he's fabulous. I especially like American Gods. FYI, he just wrote, "The Problem With Susan", a response of sorts to Susan being the survivor in the Narnia Chronicles books. It's kind of hard to find online, but you might start looking at berkeley.edu.

I have his book, "Smoke and Mirrors."
It's a book of short stories.
I highly recommend it.

Gaimen may be a little "off,"
but I think he's borderline genius.
