The most important thing to keep your room from looking tiny is have properly proportioned furniture-- color chouldn't really matter. Don't put a large overstuffed arm chair and a huge desk in a tiny room--that overpowers the room. (just like you wouldn't put tiny furniture in a huge room-- it would look too sparse).
Something nice, sleek and compact, with solid fabrics and finishes (rather than busy patterns) will make your room look well-proportioned and un-cluttered. I don't think it would matter if it's black. Especially since it sounds like your walls and floor are a lighter shade- black would add a nice contrast. Good luck

White makes things look larger, and black makes them look smaller. If you have a small room, this is what you will want to use.

No black does not make a room look small, add mirrors to extend the feeling of the depth of the room and try to keep the space simple and not too crowded. Your color scheme is perfect for a home office, snaps on that one haha.

Yes, black makes the room look smaller.... in addition to making the room DARK.. I would definitely go for a semigloss Swiss Coffee(white) for the desk and shelving.

I think black looks classic. Especially kitchen appliances.
