Doesn't anyone know how to do algebra anymore?
If I see one more "Solve 3x+4y=32" question...

Amy, honey, it's not that they don't know algebra, it's that they don't have the spine to figure it out, or pay attention in class when the teacher's telling it to them, or read their book. Maybe they don't have books any more. I can't say I was the best student in my day, and I know why. I was a lazy assssss back then, and I'm sorry I put my parents through so much by not learning when they sent me to one of our country's best highschools. It does drive you nuts though, doesn't it. I finally learned all of it and it seemed so easy that I can't stand that I waited so long to learn. I can't stand those questions either, but then, maybe they're just deprived kids looking for someone to talk to and their parents or guardians don't give a damn. My wife and I were talking about this very thing last night as we went to bed and I was telling her about this algebra progblem question I answered last night. Oh well. That's life. A bit of frustration all along the way. God Bless you.

3x+4y=32
[1] Get y on one side of the equation. Subtract both side by 3x and divide by 4.
y= -(3/4)x + 8
With this equation, you can plug in x values to set up your line.

This is just a response to Lorettoboy, yes you can solve when there are 2 variables. All you do is solve for one and plug it in to the other.
Funny how I can still do this stuff when I teach kindergarten all day.

an equation with 2 variables like that is a straight line,
any point on the line is a solution
